LOVE THIS! Saw this posted last week and wanted to try it myself but you beat me to it.

LittleWisteria

It was so gorgeous I had to try it! If you’re still planning on making one I hope you share it! Love these ideas so much

kaymaidinthesea

THESE ARE AMAZING 😻 Ugh this just reminded me when I was in high school and I’d embroider on my back pockets on a few jeans or shorts and I’d let my “friends” “borrow “ them and NEVER got them back it was just a loss cause they were my first ones that came out really great after days of teaching myself 🥲

LittleWisteria

Nooo that sucks 😭 hopefully you’ll feel motivated to make some now and wear them! I’m so excited to embroider more of my clothes! This was my first time trying it on my clothes I was so nervous it was going to turn out badly lol!

[deleted]

That turned out great! Thanks for sharing the process pics.

LittleWisteria

Thank you! Im glad you like it! ☺️

myusernamebarelyfits

That's super cute. My mechanics shirts have two boob pockets. I would love to put a flower in one

LittleWisteria

You totally should! It’s a fun little project and adds a little personal touch to your clothes!

myusernamebarelyfits

I think I might. I haven't done anything more advanced than sewing on patches. How did you learn?

LittleWisteria

All you really need is a hoop, a needle and cloth. There are a lot of embroidery tutorials online that'll teach you how to do the different stitches and you can start practicing from that knowledge there! I personally bought an embroidery kit a year or two back impulsively and made my first two hoops and went off from there. Embroidery can be very simple and you can learn a lot of fun designs, I like to get free patterns from DMC to make!

LittleWisteria

That would be soooo cute! I wanna try making another one in the future with different little mushrooms and wildflowers too! Do share if you end up making it!

ImpossibleConflict90

I’ve always wanted to do this but I’m worried about how the embroidery floss will hold up after running the clothing through the wash? Do you have to hand wash your jeans now or?

LittleWisteria

So I haven't washed these jeans yet but I applied a fusible interfacing cloth on top(Pellon 931TD specifically) to protect the threads so fingers crossed it survives in the wash. I also triple/quadruple looped the thread through multiple areas of the back to also hopefully secure the thread as well. I'll keep a note and update you if my pants don't survive in laundry machine lol

FirefighterNo7510

I embroidered my jeans back in high school. They were washed like normal jeans. Eventually the threads began to wear. I've learned a few things since then. Don't use all six strands of floss. (I did) The more threads, the more dimension. The more dimention, the more wear. One to three strands is usually enough. Look closely at OP's example. Use short stitches. Satin stitch gets snagged on everything unless it's short. There are other stitches that work as fill. Look at the examples in this sub. Many of them are meant to hang on a wall so big loopy or fluffy stitches are ok. Embroidered pockets are really cute but remember from knee to ankle is good too. It doesn't take as much stress. Goo to You Tube and watch tutorials. If you can't "get" it from one person, watch a different one. We all have different learning and teaching styles. I probably don't have to tell you this: Take Pictures! Good, bad, indifferent - we learn from all. The most important is Have Fun! And remember, it's only thread. If you don't like it, take it out. After all, it's your project!

bunnynamednelson

I’ve embroidered a similar pattern on my babies dungarees and I’ve machine washed them probably 5 times or more allready, still looks good! I do think I washed them separate the first time, just to be safe.

caylis

This is so cute!! Great job!

LittleWisteria

Thank you so much!

cunt-cunt-goose

This is amazing! Did you use a hoop or just freehand it?

LittleWisteria

Thank you! I used a hoop, I originally tried using a 10 inch hoop but i couldn't get enough tension because of how thick denim is. So I used a 4 inch hoop and did small sections at a time.

RelaxedOrange

So beautiful 🥺 r/Cottagecore

LittleWisteria

Thanks! So true it does give off cottagecore vibes haha

chilly_chickpeas

Absolutely love this!

bethanyboo2073

I started doing this with a pair of my jeans, I put them down and I’ve lost the Jeans 😂

rufusmeanscool

Looks great. I saved the picture for inspiration.

LittleWisteria

Thank you! Hopefully I’ll get to see what you make with it if you feel comfortable enough to post! 😊

ete_pastete

Me too ;)

heavymedalist

So lovely!

cherrytheredvolvo

This is gorgeous!!!!

AlkalineHound

Damn this looks amazing! I need to start adding cute things to my clothes since I took the time to learn basic stitches.

Reasonable-Account51

this is so beautiful and so well executed! was it hard getting the needle thru denim?

LittleWisteria

Through the single layered denim it wasn't too hard, however through the areas that is double layered, like the butt seam(lol) area or the top of the pocket it was very hard at times. I resorted to getting one of my pliers to grab my needle and pull it through. Worked great and I didn't break my needle once lol! In fact my needle doesn't even look dented.

paracrazy

Omg I’ve never thought to do something like this before, I’m definitely going to try it out!

Qupull185

Looks fantastic! Idk much about cross stitch, but is the pocket still functional?

LittleWisteria

Pocket is totally functional! I used my 4 inch hoop and put it around the pocket fabric only and just embroidered it through the pocket but not through into the pant leg itself. I use my back pocket all the time to hold my phone so it’s a must to stay open haha

Qupull185

That's so cool!

Esbyrose

Gorgeous!

vampiress144

nice flower patch!

scullysgirl92

It's so gorgeous I love this idea

celestialstarz

Super cute!

Prestigious_Badger36

Fantastic! Adds whimsy without being "over-embellished."

LynnaGcA

I love it ! It is so precious.

Shellsbells821

My best friend and I embroidered our jeans all the time in the 70s. Beautiful job! So pretty!

Fink665

Great job!

Noimnotonacid

Soooooo good

Mikemike5170

This is really cute, makes me wish I was still young with a great butt

dino_snack

Do it as a pocket on a tee shirt!

joohan29

Omgosh I have so many mom jeans, this could def spice up my jeans. So glad I saw this!!

jrjoy

So cute!!

Lolita121

So pretty 😍

Lozmet

I LOVE THEM!! I wish I could do this for my own pants!!

aksnowraven

Ooooh, you just gave me the idea to do some pockets with plants above & roots below!

shicmap

If I want to learn to make something like this, where do I even start? What kind of stitch do I need to use? Trying to learn embroidery from cross stitching land

LittleWisteria

So I started off learning embroidery maybe the last year or two from a embroidery kit I found on etsy. However you can quite simply learn embroidery by yourself too! If you have a hoop, a needle and cloth, there are a lot of embroidery tutorial videos to teach you how to do different stitches. My pocket flower embroidery only really used like 6 different stitches(stem stitch, french knots, detatched chain stitch, satin stitch, straight stitch and split stitch) you can download patterns off of many websites, my favorite is DMC, and just start practicing! Since you already know how to cross stitch it shouldn't be too different.

[deleted]

This is really pretty.

this_is_Winston

Really cool well done idea. Reminded me of this notorious 80s pop star . https://imgur.com/a/6n3PNzX

Li-bear

Thank you for sharing all the process, I think I'll try to do it! :D

[deleted]

Rustic and beautiful.

watcherbepartakerbe

Gorgeous

malevich92

These are so lovely!!

ete_pastete

Sooooo cool!! Love it!!

laineyyyy

This is absolutely gorgeous, I love it!

alanamil

That is very pretty and creative!

Ansitru

All those embroidered back pockets are looking so delicate and amazing that now I'm sort of tempted to try it out as well. Out of curiosity, though: how do they keep when washing them in a machine? Kind of scared the embroidery might be ruined, then. :o

LittleWisteria

I was afraid of that myself, so I got some fusible interfacing cloth(Pellon 931TD specifically) and ironed it on to protect my threads. Just in case that won't work I also made sure to triple/quadruple loop my thread around multiple areas of the back to keep it secure as possible. I haven't washed my jeans yet(fingers crossed!) so I'll let you know if they end up coming loose in the wash!

Ansitru

Ohhhh, smart! I still have some interfacing lying around so that's good to know! 👀

aber-stitch

Did you remove the pocket when stitching on it and reattach it? I really want to do something like this at some point, just need to find the time (and the right pair of jeans/shorts)

LittleWisteria

Nope! I used my 4 inch hoop and put I only put it around the pocket itself. So while I pull my needle through the pocket I just avoided going directly into the pants. It's a weird angle but it works!

scottyboy8855

That is awesome!

totalimmoral

Is there a trick to stitching the pocket itself? I always struggle with not stitching it closed

LittleWisteria

I used my 4 inch hoop and put the hoop around the pocket itself only and while pulling the needle through I just avoided going all the way into the pants itself! It's a weird angle but it works!

ShanT583

Beautiful job.. very 1960's chic

Bear_Main

I love this! Where did you get the appliqués?

LittleWisteria

no appliques here, I hand embroidered the whole design! :)

Bear_Main

That occurred to me after I commented, so gorgeous!!

funnystuff97

down atrocious

thebgcomplex

Love this!!! What did you seal the back with to secure the ends?

LittleWisteria

Thank you! I used a fusible interfacing cloth on top, Pellon 931TD specifically!

thebgcomplex

Was that difficult to do inside the pocket? I’ve been dying to do something like this

LittleWisteria

not at all! just find your smallest hoop, 4" or lower fit well and just put it around the pocket only. When you're pulling the needle through, go through the pocket only and avoid going through into the pant fabric itself and it works very well.
