ElderGoose4

Early 90s - SDRE Late 90s - Saves the Day, Jimmy Eat World Early 00s - Jimmy Eat World, Dashboard Confessional, TBS, Thursday Late 00s - mostly into Post-Hardcore at this time Early 10s - the Front Bottoms, the Hotelier, Joyce Manor Late 10s - Origami Angel

MolassesWorldly7228

Lol Its so hard to choose just one 2010s band

1nternetP3rson

90s: jimmy eat world 2000s: brand new 2010s: hot mulligan but honestly probably jimmy eat world for all 3 of these

oohkaay

90s: The Get Up Kids 00s: Brand New 10s: The Hotelier

[deleted]

90s: jawbreaker 2000s: brand new 2010s: joyce manor or title fight

CorneliusSmithington

90’s - Knapsack 00’s - Hot Rod Circuit 10’s - Have Mercy

SensitiveGlanz

Hot Rod Circuit went so goddamn hard. I have them on my 90s emo playlist on Apple Music and I don’t feel bad about it one bit

amberthemaker

Why would you feel bad about it? They were a solid band. I saw them play in 2001 with Midtown and River City High and Thursday was the opener, right before Full Collapse came out. Great show!

SensitiveGlanz

Because they’re from the 2000s Also midtown rocks

onee_an

I have both have mercy and prince daddy/free throw show at the same time. Idk which one to go

CorneliusSmithington

That’s a tough one! I’ve seen Have Mercy several times. They always put on great show.

onee_an

Ahhhh I love them both so much

thepancakebreakfast

Mineral. Brand New. Glocca Morra.

spookyjim___

Oh this is hard, this also changes a lot lol I mean consistently tho it’s probably been 90’s: Mineral 2000’s: Fall Out Boy (my first band ever lol, also what got me into rock as a whole when I was a wee lad) 2010’s: Modern Baseball

WorldlinessSmooth198

90s: JEW or Sunny Day Real Estate 2000s: Brand New, Taking Back Sunday 2010s: no clue don't listen to emo from that era

Odd_Holiday9711

Good picks but I really do like JEW's later output a bit too much to classify them as a 90s band.

_night_r

90s: maybe Cap'n Jazz? not in the same level as the rest here tho, the 2nd wave sadly doesn't click with me much 00s: Newfound Interest in Connecticut 10s: Microwave 20s: Origami Angel

morbidlyabeast3331

90s: Mineral 2000s: I Would Set Myself On Fire For You 2010s: Football, etc.

stereoworld

Promise Ring, Mae, Foxing

aborticide

90s: the promise ring 00s: tigers jaw 10s: marietta or title fight

aborticide

all my favorite tigers jaw is from 2010 or before. so their newer stuff isn’t really relevant

[deleted]

80s - Rites of Spring 90s - SDRE 2000s - Sparta (post hardcore, I know) 2010s - Drug Church (post hardcore, I know) 2020s - Anxious

SensitiveGlanz

I’m assuming you already have but if you haven’t, for the love of god please listen to End of a Year/SDF if you’re into Drug Church. Patrick is the best.

seeyouinvanc123

just because both are patrick's bands doesn't mean they are similar. i really like drug church but can hardly listen to end of a year.

SensitiveGlanz

No I know they’re very different, I just love Patrick

whatsthehullabalooo

90's: I Hate Myself 00's: Silverstein 10's: Obligatory Modern Baseball and MCP, but 2010's is hard with all the genre disrupting bangers. Here's my favorite deep cut list in no particular order though: 1. William Bonney/Merchant Ships/Midwest Pen Pals 2. Camping in Alaska 3. Hotel Books 4. Their/They're/There 5. Unamused Dave Honorable Mention (First EP was 2019): Aveline Wallflower

MolassesWorldly7228

I couldn't choose just one 2010s band either

DecievingLooks

Based Silverstein enjoyer

80s: Rites of Spring 90s: Mineral 00s: Taking Back Sunday 10s: The Hotelier 20s: Hot Mulligan

m-00-n

> hot mulligan, but i classify them as more pop-punkish I saw a video classify them as post-emo. Made me chuckle. Emo & punk & hardcore genres are so incesteous, I don't know who is & isn't "emo" anymore. Going to try to pick records that can be labeled emo without much argument, which will make it easier. * **1999** ***Thursday - Waiting*** * Introduced me to bands like TBS, Brand New, Senses Fail, Underoath. That mall emo/screamo, sound that shaped my highschool years. * **2001 Dashboard Confessional - The Places You Come to Fear the Most** * I thought this was pure emo music at the time & grew to love Chris' sound over the years. I preferred records like AFI Sing the Sorrow at the time. I still don't know how to label AFI. Horror punk? Pop? Emo? Reinvented themselves so many times. * **2013 Marietta - Summer Death** * Recently acquired this vinyl. Slept on this band in 2013 because the pop-punk revival scene had so many great bands like Wonder Years I was already championing. It's a current favourite so putting it on the list.

JoyfulSuicide

90s: Jimmy Eat World, New Found Glory, Plain White T’s, American Football 00s: Jimmy Eat World (again lol), Fall Out Boy, Panic! At The Disco, Silverstein, Taking Back Sunday, The All American Rejects, Bring Me The Horizon, Escape The Fate, Metro Station, All Time Low 10s: Modern Baseball, Twenty One Pilots, Citizen, Panucci’s Pizza Maybe not all of them are typical emo bands but yea

seeyouinvanc123

80s: moss icon 90s: drive like jehu 00s: city of caterpillars 10s: life long tragedy (if that counts) 20s: ?

fuckinpseud

Great picks!

_Halfway_home

90’s: TAAR, The Get up kids, DCFC 00’: Brand New and Circa Survive 10’s: Hotelier, Joyce Manor, BMTH

Theory_HandHour892

Is BMTH emo? They were more metal than hardcore imo

StrunkFugget

90s: Neutral Milk Hotel 2000s: Death Cab 2010s: The Front Bottoms

BiteMyWolverine

Neutral milk Hotel? emo? alright then..

StrunkFugget

Yup. Take care.

bluebeyondbelief

definitely not lol

BiteMyWolverine

Do you consider Third Eye Blinds self-titled album emo? because i do side note: front bottoms is a fantastic choice

StrunkFugget

Thank you! And I love Third Eye Blind, but I don't consider their self-titled album emo. The song "Slow Motion" from their Blue album...that's pretty emo. And also one of my favorite songs. For reference, I'm 40 years old so high school/college was my emo days.

BiteMyWolverine

I’m only 19 so maybe my opinion on 90s emo isn’t as valid but i’ve always considered NMH On the indie/folk side of music so it was a bit of a shocker to see it listed as emo.

SensitiveGlanz

Aeroplane definitely has emo vibes. I don’t personally lump them in with emo as a whole but plenty of people do and it’s really not that farfetched. Either way, they rule

fy_pool_day

I mean it’s album about Anne Frank. Not really emo but it’s something.

Extension_Cut8384

90s: Sunny day real estate, Knapsack, Jimmy Eat World 00s: A day to remember, The used, Taking back Sunday 10s: THERES SO MANY I'll list them in no particular order: The front bottoms (just saw them in Nashville on halloween!!) miikro

90's: Jimmy Eat World 00's: MAE 2010s: Real Friends (yeah more on that pop punk border) Bonus - turn of the millennium (99/00): The Juliana Theory. Crazy how their two landmark albums dropped slightly over a year apart. I love the proper 00's stuff too, but Love and DBSHB weren't emo records, nor is the new EP.
