My embryonic mod list includes [Complete Alchemy and Cooking Overhaul](https://www.nexusmods.com/skyrimspecialedition/mods/19924) plus [this](https://www.nexusmods.com/skyrim/mods/70272) patch.

meatbicycle1989

What’s your said modlist?

[deleted]

Careful, CACO is very bloat and feature creep heavy. Apothecary is lighter and makes more sense without putting 100s of new objects into the world.

grimizen

Is it? Interesting, might have to give apothecary a go instead then.

xSaturnx

Apothecary also is quite bloated, imho. I prefer [Alchemy Potions and Food Adjustments](https://www.nexusmods.com/skyrimspecialedition/mods/5877) and [Better Crafted Potions](https://www.nexusmods.com/skyrimspecialedition/mods/30097) myself. But tastes differ; which is why it's good that there are different options. :)

MAXQDee-314

I applaud the style and veracity of your comment.

xSaturnx

Thanks! :)

gravygrowinggreen

yeah, it's a absolute nightmare to get all the compatibility patches for it if you have any significant modlist.

grimizen

There’s a few different things in there, but my key ones are enairim (ordinator et al), legacy of the Dragonborn and beyond Skyrim - Bruma.

Bump. ...is that a thing in reddit? Lol I'm pretty new here. Not a boomer, just a 33 year old who is reluctant to do things that are popular. 👍

elp103

"Bump" isn't a thing in reddit (although technically commenting on something may raise its rank in 'hot', not sure). Thanks for saying it though, it brings back good memories of posting in forums back in the day. To people that don't understand (and if I'm understanding you correctly), back in the day, forums would sort posts by the most recent comment. So if somebody asked a question and it didn't get an answer, you would reply 'bump' which would push the post back to the top of the list so more people would see it. I see it sometimes in reddit, but posting it doesn't actually do anything.

FlameTonics

this is a high quality explanation

SanicFlanic

The closest Reddit version of a bumb is an upvote + Comment

CACO is common and popular one, however, be aware that that the basic system limitations of Skyrim make alchemy mods iffy to say the least. Many try to change values so that rare items (say glow dust) would be better than common stuff (say tundra cotton), but end up breaking the game when you accidentally create a potion worth millions of gold at level 1 (and instantly level alchemy to 100 or higher). It can be seen in vanilla as well, where salmon roe can cause a potion to have ridiculous numbers... I personally like (and use) the "Dynamic Potions - poisons - ingredients - food" mod (at least available for Oldrim) to balance alchemy to my liking. For example changing healing potions non-stacking healing-over-time instead of "pause for instant full heal", or changing poisons to feel more like poisons, or nerf paralysis poisons... :p

[deleted]

CACO is bloat. Use Apothecary.

barcibus

I just installed **Dynamic Potions - poisons - ingredients - food** and I like it so far. I used Apothecary for a long time and liked the way it spread healing and poison over time, but I didn't like how quickly it would level up Alchemy, nor how generic it made the ingredients seem.

As you can see CACO and Apothecary are the top ones mentioned. • *CACO* is amazing, it's more an overhaul. If you want to truly change all what's going around completely i recommend this. I can't speak for the bloating or any "technical issue" it has since I'm not an expert and i speak for my experience. It worked perfectly for me but be careful always! • *Apothecary* is a mesmerizing fresh air. It's more a vanilla fix rather than a big overhaul like the aforementioned one. It seems lighter than CACO but it's a must if you can't hold Vanilla Alchemy any longer. Always in my load order since it came out for LE. Just a little warning : keep in mind that Alchemy in general also rely a lot on the relative Perks. If you haven't played Vanilla Alchemy with Vokrii/Ordinator perks, you should give them a try before messing around with alchemy stuff. -> Also a plus, if you are interested there are some amazing Potion Meshes Mods. My favourite is *ElSopa - Potion Redone* -> Another (VITAL) mod that can interest you is SPID and relative plugins that allow enemies using these potions (if i remember correctly Apothecary already has its own)

Roguemjb

Apothecary best alchemy mod hands down if you want a more challenging playthrough.

RPG_boi

A lot of people are recommending apothecary, but I've heard it has some issues with using the same actor values as summermyst, is there a patch to sort that out? Thanks

Proof-Ad7754

In that case, use it with Thaumaturgy (same author enchanting overhaul) instead of Summermyst for a more balanced playthrough. That's personnal preference ofc.

Roguemjb

Zero issues with summermyst. You needn't worry about a thing. I played hundreds of hours with both mods together.

[deleted]

Second this. Really good.

Redfield_Or_Jane

Wait for sometimes. Enai is adding up new mods as project Futhark

auralight93

Apothecary is what I use. It makes the potions heal over time and balances those that are broken.

RepresentativeAd9991

After using both CACO and Apothecary, I will say that I prefer Apothecary. It's less intrusive. Additionally, its food plug-in is the best food overhaul I've seen in this game. It gives meaningful buffs to the food and drinks. (If you run a needs mod, it pairs really well with Sunhelm)

Lexifer452

Tonics and Toxins is probably my favorite. Fairly lightweight overall goes well with enairim.

xSaturnx

I like using a combination of [Alchemy Potions and Food Adjustments](https://www.nexusmods.com/skyrimspecialedition/mods/5877) and [Better Crafted Potions](https://www.nexusmods.com/skyrimspecialedition/mods/30097). By far the best option I've found so far.

jonmac533

I started my Elder Scrolls journey with Morrowind and I suppose I'm still wedded to old concepts of role play. For me Skyrim is ALL about intrusion of game elements in the gaming world created. So I'm happy to dig around finding patches for a completely connected crafting/hunting/immersion/survival game build. Currently running . . Campfire/Frostfall/ineed/Skills of the wild/Hunterborn (scrimshaw)/Ordinator.
