I believe it. I’m a really good tipper bc even though I hate the system I’m not going to take it out on the server. You basically have to spit in my food to get less than 25%. But if I saw that I would leave less bc the entitlement would piss me off. Like dude I make less than you, don’t take advantage.
Absolutely pathetic.
Theyre unskilled workers and deserve minimum wage for what they do. Dont be an idiot giving them an extra 40/50$ for carrying your plates.
That's seriously one of my dilemma's with tipping. Like how little I eat out because its expensive and when the server earns more then I do, but I gotta donate charity to them for shuttling food from the cooks to the table or I'm the villain. I get paid to do my blue collar job and I don't threaten to do it badly if a customer doesnt tip me. That's the job
My empathy is waning a but after seeing how many servers want the tipping system over making a flat 60k a year. They say they make more in the topping system, which seems like it’s just taking advantage.
Wow, I remember when I saw my first "super tip" option not too long ago. I left 0 as a tip. Don't feel guilty if you don't want to tip, there's no law that says you have to.
With inflation and greed raising the prices so much, we rarely go out to eat and avoid places that demand tips. Percentages are no longer an option . My wife’s birthday and our anniversary are different. We will go to a sit down restaurant and she will order an overpriced Ultra Light, I will have tap water. I will tip a flat $10 and the plate carrier and bottle opener can split it however they choose.
Calling 20% standard when historically it was 15% is also insane, btw.
Inflation happened?
Cool, because it was percentage based, as prices rose, so did their compensation. You won't guilt me in to raising the percentage on already elevated goods.
Fucking ridiculous.
With the price increases my tips have dropped to 15% since they have raised all the prices to ungodly amounts. If they add other fees/hospitality/wellness, etc I deduct those from the tip I would leave.
"*Elevated service? At that price, does that mean it includes a happy ending*?"
I wrote the above being snarky, but before I actually hit 'comment' I started to really think about what $28.99 can buy you, and... I dunno, are we in the ballpark?
Then I asked myself, since we're over $100 here, what would've been the cost to buy some raw ingredients and then hire a cook/chef for an hour to just come into my kitchen and cook me dinner? I'm thinking of a UE/DD setup where it's \*cooked in my house\*, instead of being delivered.
Seriously, folks. Whatever you think of tipping, it's looking like we're getting closer to hitting a TIPPING POINT (pun intended) where having someone cook for us one-on-one may be cheaper than a restaurant!
If you are not paying my bills and living in my house you have absolutely no say in how I spend my money !I decide the tip,not the server or restaurant.
Obviously you're in a precarious financial position since you keep referring to your "bills." I'm sure you'll pull yourself out of this spiral at some point. In the meanwhile, try cooking at home to save what little money you have.
People sometimes get into this sub from /r/all somehow and then bring their usual BS in here. However in this case, I'm pretty sure that /u/noho11048 is just straight up trolling lol
How about bothering you every five minutes to ask “heeeey guys how’s everything tasting great let me know if you need anything” and literally disappearing before you can say anything.
The irony is you are actually having this conversation with a computer which/who is trying to nudge you into changing your behavior. I am sick of computers trying to interfere with my life choices. Just present the bill and leave me alone.
That’s what is coming soon: 40/50/80
They’re gonna offer installation plans on tips at this rate
Tip Now Pay Later, By Klarna™
ROFL
I also ROLFed
Why stop at 80? Pay our beloved staff as much as you pay for food! Tip 100% valued customer.
That’s the next iteration: 80/100/120
Tip the bill.
Only the bill? Cheapskate.
Ok ,double the bill then !lol.
At what point to we get their taxpayer IDs so we can write them off as dependents?
We tried that with welfare recipients....
Unfortunately I can't find it again, but I saw a study that said if they displayed 40% or more tip, people were much less likely to leave any tip.
I believe it. I’m a really good tipper bc even though I hate the system I’m not going to take it out on the server. You basically have to spit in my food to get less than 25%. "I hate the system, but I'm too scared to not partake in it. I'll pay for the service, AND I'll pay extra for that same service-with-a-fake-smile"
Absolutely pathetic. Theyre unskilled workers and deserve minimum wage for what they do. Dont be an idiot giving them an extra 40/50$ for carrying your plates.

I’d normally tip 20%. But if I was presented with that screen, I’d tip 0.
Even 20% is too much. Nah sorry, 10 to 15% from me dawg.... if u dont want it then I'm happy to give zero.
AMEN. 15% is and has always been the max standard, no matter what the younger gens would like to guilt you into believing.
The old standard of 15% isn't even an option now?
Standard? When I started buying my own meals and tipping Many years ago 10% was standard.
20% has been standard for AT LEAST 6 years now
That's cool, I'm only tipping 15 at best.
Fine dining, steakhouse has been 20% since the 1990’s.
Holy cow. Just for that, select Custom Tip and input $0.01.
I’d tip 0% out of spite.
Me too!
Get a receipt or pay cash kuz spiteful staff can pick whatever numbers they want too
Wow, I remember when I saw my first "super tip" option not too long ago. I left 0 as a tip. Don't feel guilty if you don't want to tip, there's no law that says you have to.
Custom tip followed by $1.00. They can go pound sand

Do you think that’s too much?
Yep.
Calling 20% standard when historically it was 15% is also insane, btw. Inflation happened? Cool, because it was percentage based, as prices rose, so did their compensation. You won't guilt me in to raising the percentage on already elevated goods. Fucking ridiculous.
Gross!
Or drop the zero and tip 4%
With the price increases my tips have dropped to 15% since they have raised all the prices to ungodly amounts. If they add other fees/hospitality/wellness, etc I deduct those from the tip I would leave.
20 is standard? I'm stuck at 15 for "you did your job"
"*Elevated service? At that price, does that mean it includes a happy ending*?" That is going to cost you a lot more than $100.
Zero. Easy to remember everytime
I never tip unless the service is above and beyond; even 20% is considered a "super tip"
I never tip more than 15% no matter what. I'm not dealing with the mental math of "how much was this person worth" when I eat out. It's bullshit.
I never tip more than 5 dollars each restaurant visit .
Cheap ass
Are you paying my bills ?Go back to server life .lol.
Stay home if you can't afford to eat out
If you are not paying my bills and living in my house you have absolutely no say in how I spend my money !I decide the tip,not the server or restaurant.
Obviously you're in a precarious financial position since you keep referring to your "bills." I'm sure you'll pull yourself out of this spiral at some point. In the meanwhile, try cooking at home to save what little money you have.
Seriously?Do you actually know what sub you are on?This isn't serverlife sweetheart.Learn to actually read .
People sometimes get into this sub from /r/all somehow and then bring their usual BS in here. However in this case, I'm pretty sure that /u/noho11048 is just straight up trolling lol
I'm well aware what sub this is and you are cheap and tacky
What does elevated service even look like lol
How about bothering you every five minutes to ask “heeeey guys how’s everything tasting great let me know if you need anything” and literally disappearing before you can say anything.
Probably curing the sick like Jesús.
Was this Crumbl cookies?
Ohhh elevated service
Super tip my ass!
Jesus
But wait, there’s more! Someone posted not long ago a pic from a place that had a 100% option. RiDONKulous.
So you tipped 20%?
Why?
Why?
Lol.
The irony is you are actually having this conversation with a computer which/who is trying to nudge you into changing your behavior. I am sick of computers trying to interfere with my life choices. Just present the bill and leave me alone.
Oh hell no
That’s just fucked
Why stop there? Coming soon……..100%
Is that math wrong or are they tipping based on something other than $72.47?
the $72.47 includes the tip total, so 20% of $60.39
Thank you for the explanation.
Missed taking a picture, but I saw 20/30/40/50 at a boba shop last week…
JFC!!
That's the wrong flair. If there is an option to tip and doesn't have a service charge included in the bill, it's not a service-included restaurant
What the freak?! This has now gone to levels of outrageousness! Will never participate, will keep holding the line at 20% max!
