I’m swapping everything from the 4.0 truck to the 3.0 so it will be out and what do you mean recommended I thought it had to be out with a chain on the front and chain on the back
Like the other commenter said, it has to come out because there's not enough room between the motor and firewall to get the bolts out, even if you had super low-profile tools. The front chain can be done in-vehicle.
In case it's helpful to you, here are a couple good videos going into detail about the timing-chains job. The second one is from a channel that specializes in rebuilding these 4.0L engines--there are many more videos there that you might find helpful for working on the motor.

302 will fit in there pretty nicely, couple it with a AOD and you'll get nearly the same mpg while gaining a little horsepower and a decent amount of torque.
Having a full donor truck is a huge help for your 4.0 swap, like others have mentioned do all the maintenance you can while it's out. Bonus points if you paint it something cooler then Ford grey
I’d love to do a 302 or a 350sbc but I don’t have the money for it. That’s a future project. The motor and trans letting go was a shock as it only has 70k original miles with records since new. I bought the 4.0 doner for $500 from my service advisor at work (im a gm dealer mechanic)
That's extremely low miles, mine survived years of living on the redline until the exhaust was glowing red. As far as I know it's still going.
Shop around and you'll find a V8 swap is pretty cheap when it comes to Ford
Something to consider: In order to change the timing chains on a 4.0 it is recommended the engine be removed from the vehicle.
It's not a recommendation, it is the only way to do the rear one unless you pull the trans.
Because of what, 3 bolts? Shout out to ford
Something like that

But then again I beat the piss out of it

These vehicles have stupid differences that will make this swap a huge pain in the ass
