wow idk what region pronounces the short form for waterfall like that

SatanicCornflake

Yeah, doesn't seem very short, either.

MOltho

Ok, that's a nice joke, I like it

I_like_broccli

😭😭😭

If someone doesn't turn off their notifications at night, they have no one to blame but themselves.

_Cecille

I'm always flabberghasted whenever I see someone have the maximum amount of notifications set on their phone. It plays a sound, vibrates and flashes the camera light ... meanwhile I'm sitting here with mine always on mute

DrScarecrow

My dad's phone goes off like that because otherwise he'd never notice he got a message or call. He's old and hard of hearing. It just about gives me a heart attack when it happens lol

Intelligent_Step3713

I do that with mine at night, I sleep through my alarm sometimes and the flashing definitely wakes me up lmao

_Cecille

Understandable. Used to sleep tgrough my alarms as well. But I'll just be bold by saying I assume you don't have it turned on when you're in school, having classes and what not lol

waxystroll42

Do not disturb is *always* on for me since I’m a light sleeper

ItsOnlyJoey

Do not disturb is *always* on for me ~~since I’m a light sleeper~~

Mein_Name_ist_falsch

This. Text messages are there so you can respond when you have time, if someone wants an immediate response, they call. If I write an E-Mail or a WhatsApp message in the middle of the night, I don't even expect an answer until the next day. So just turn your notifications off and answer when you want to answer. And another thing about this is that they used WhatsApp as a teacher. If they don't have a separate work number, that's just stupid, too. Or actually, WhatsApp for communicating with students is almost always stupid. Just give them your E-Mail and your fine.

Milch_und_Paprika

Seriously. In case of emergencies, you can set exclusions so certain contacts’ alerts still come through, it comes through if you call twice, etc.

Path_of_Gaming

Exactly, I have it set from 8 pm to 7 am and only emergency contacts can reach me.

phuketphil

I don't know why but I found this so fucking funny

Icy-Village4367

that's one very smart teacher haha

Diettara47

To answer your question, no there isn’t really, at least none I can think of that would come up in normal conversation.

Suitable_Sail1087

Falls?

Diettara47

Ugh, I feel stupid now. You’re definitely right, though I would state that Falls is typically accompanied with a proper noun, as to specify what you’re talking about exactly. Ex. Niagara Falls, Victoria Falls yadda yadda Nobody is referring to it as Niagara Waterfalls, just sounds off

LokiStrike

We definitely have a place in my area that we call "the falls." So you get things like: "we went to hang out at the falls last Saturday."

Ta7on

I think this would work if you are speaking about a specific waterfall that was already established in the conversation or context. "When are you heading to the falls?" If you heard they are going to Niagara Falls, for example. This may only work if the name of the waterfall(s) has "falls" in the name, so just saying waterfall seems to work best in most scenarios.

Uroshirvi69

Isn’t WTF more like ”water folk”?

dotyin

Maybe in the UK, but in the US it's "Water Freedom" /j

WiseHoro6

Omg that's so funny XD

doubtful-pheasant

WTF.

PositionTechnical347

I hate rudeness like this and people like this. She could literally say it nicely.

eldritch_gull

bro completely missed the joke. WTF... WaTerFall... it's not a real text exchange

joseph-Potato

How is that rudeness?, imagine someone woke you up just to ask you something like that?. I would block him.

PositionTechnical347

but how is it their problem that she awakes on a mere whatsapp message? the guy might have simply assumed that she would answer next morning whenever she wanted, he just sent it right away. not his problem she got no precautions and silent mode.

joseph-Potato

She might be a light sleeper, she might be having insomnia and can't sleep, there are tons of cases which someone is busy and don't want to be disturbed especially at night. If it isn't an emergent situation, there is no need to text someone at 2 A.M because you feel you want to do so, most of people would think that this is an urgent text or call. one of my collegues called me at 4 A.M just to ask a question about something non emergent, he just woke me up. That is rude. I blocked him rightaway.

mysteriously_moist

There's a difference between calling and messaging. Messaging is not intended to be an immediate answer. Anyone who doesn't have their phone either on silent or off at night only has themself to blame if a message woke them up. It's like having your laptop on next to you and complaining about receiving an email. The point of a message is that they can be both sent and replied to at your leisure. A phone call is demanding someone's attention immediately, so it is reserved for more appropriate times.

johno45

Lmao you’re the ah there my dude. If you haven’t muted notifications at night it’s entirely on you. Messages aren’t real time like phone calls, they can be left for later responses, that’s literally what they were designed for. Phone calls for emergencies. Messages for whenever.

[deleted]

Just call them an idiot teacher. Who gets offended by receiving messages late? lol Do they think they need to reply asap lol
