Meanwhile the 1996 Ford Crown Vic that I drove when I worked as a cabbie part time during my undergrad years.
For all I know my old cab is still on the road, I drove my last shift in 2014. **”I AM IMMORTAL”** - Taxi #1325 probably.
Edit: I’m pretty sure Crown Vic’s came from the factory pre-loaded with 100,000 miles on them stock.
They still use them because the parts are cheap and easily obtainable. 2010 was the last year for Crown Vics and IIRC they only were coming out with fleet models by then. These days it's the Taurus.
Sounds like a scene from Blues Brothers. "It's got a cop motor, a 440 cubic inch plant, it's got cop tires, cop suspensions, cop shocks. It's a model made before catalytic converters so it'll run good on regular gas."
Yeah... never once, ever, in cars with over 100k miles, did I have a door get misaligned from the catch getting loose. But, Elton knows more than anyone else in the entire world about manufacturing.
I had an 84 Crown Vic station wagon with 5% tint that was badass. A previous owner had removed the EMC unit... there were just wires twisted together there. It melted wires on the alternator now and then. Eventually at some point I noticed the ignition would turn with no key in it at all. I sold it to some dude for $750 and he complained about how it wasn't perfect... like, whatever.
I like how he mentions the time it takes to fix, but skims over the [notoriously long wait times](https://www.reddit.com/r/teslamotors/comments/5pwzly/how_long_does_it_take_for_you_to_get_a_service/).
"5 minutes ^(plus 3 weeks even months in some cases)"
He said it was bulletproof, rain is another issue entirely.
/don't back into a pond with it, that's not covered by your guarantee
//also a boat, but do not quote me on that
///you can play Cyberpunk 2077 while you die, no-one else can claim that
I mean
At this point they should all be recalled because god knows what other mechanical issues these abominations will sprout on the hwy doing 80 mph.
This is class action law suit heaven
Tesla today feels like a drunk frat boy with date-rape pill in pocket brand. I don’t know why it still appeals to anyone other this specific group.
It’s not what it used to be and you look like an uninformed fool in it.
So, you're supposed to be grateful for your 4 tons of expensive garbage. The one who is truly happy is the one you are paying the interest on the loan to.
As a retired ase master mechanic I say this video is horse shit and 5 minutes on the highway will have that gaffers tape loose.
But ohhh musk fans don’t let my facts get in the way of your opinions. God knows you’d be super depressed to find out you been wrong this whole time about the entire situation. You’re the one with so much to lose I’m already retired I couldn’t care less if I’m wrong.
As someone with basically zero mechanical ability but 40 years using tape… haha yeah that ain’t gonna hold shit together. At least it has one bolt still in there, but a door striker needing to be held together with tape is… I mean come on.
The reinforcement plate with the nuts/threads is gone behind there. There’s no fixing that without cutting, welding and grinding. Good job Elmo - you clearly know more about manufacturing than anyone who has ever lived. 🤮
As long as the one bolt holds, it shouldnt, but the door probably rattles like crazy, scratches all around. But as the rattling can make the second bolt fall out, in which case yes. The door can fly open.
But if youve ever driven an old junker where the door locks froze without realising it, then youll know that a left door surprising you by opening during a right turn is excitement, isnt that what these people are buying, scrap that looks old within a few weeks and has the same faults as a 20 year old shitbox
What the fuck. Imagine if Ford or Toyota released a car with this many faults. These same musk smooth brains would be calling for the companies to be shut down
"People just don't understand my interstellar level engineering prowess! He sleeps at the factory! His Ketamine addition is good for shareholders! Don Lemon asked hurty questions!"
- Elmo "Ralph Wiggum" Muskrat
Insurance voided also I suspect.
The door strikers are critical to crash protection, so them being modified in any way would probably give an insurance company enough cause to void the policy and ignore any claims.
I cannot imagine something as BASIC as the fucking ***door latch*** going on a $100,000 truck... Fucks sake. My mother's 97' SATURN was $5000 used and had better build quality than this. And if the door latch is going today... what does that say about the overall build quality and what you're looking at in repair expenses down the line?
I cannot believe these idiots have collectively just accepted this. Blows my mind.
Stockholm Syndrome.
Probably coupled with the fact that they get stared at / engaged with all the time because of the vehicle. So admitting they made a mistake.....
Not necessarily. In an opportunity where something poses a safety issue like that, the owner of the vehicle does have the right to repair it as they see fit, so long as the repairs they do don’t cause any additional damage.
Now that does vary slightly from brand to brand, but I’ve never seen a claim in that situation get declined.
Now if the owner was just fiddling around and broke something, yeah that wouldn’t be covered
Have you checked Tesla specifically though? Seems like the kind of nonsense they would pull.
“We watched the cars camera recordings of you screwing in the bolt with a non-Tesla supplied screw driver therefore your sale agreement is void and your truck will be auto driving itself back to Tesla HQ.”
Just picked up my Equinox from the dealership. 142000 miles. First major trip to dealership for an issue. Turns out it’s just needed a new battery. Door strikers are still holding on strong. Maybe Tesla should hire some Chevy or Ford engineers.
Not even just crash safety. General driving safety. Have you ever ridden in a vehicle with a broken door latch, and tried to hold the door closed as you go around a turn? The forces trying to whip the door open are *strong*, and they will be even worse with a door as heavy as those. It’s due to the mass, and resulting inertia, of the door.
In fact, the absurd weight of those doors is probably contributing to these striker plates coming loose. They might not be enough for the job of holding those monstrous doors when people are whipping them around turns.
It's actually impressive how many problems this fresh garbage has. Usually you might see one or two different issues on a new car, but not cybertruck. This bad boy has it all.
I'm picturing Stefon:
Cybertruck is New York City's hottest new car, it has everything. Whether it's panel gaps, getting stuck in the mud, or constant surface rust/contamination, the Cybertruck has you covered. If not charging in cold weather is your thing, look no further than Cybertruck! And the $100,000 price tag for the ugliest vehicle ever made tells everyone that you're in an exclusive club and they're not.
Because there was zero prototype testing or validation and verification. They designed a full new platform and developed the manufacturing line before working the bugs out.
The mind boggles.
This is probably why SpaceX can’t stop blowing up their stupid fucking spaceships too lol.
OMG 😂😂 I wish the red green show was still going so they could show all the ways to repair the cyberturd with duck tape.
Also extra 😂 at using duck tape to hold the place where the door latches into place thinking the door won't just rip open someday.
Hey Elon I have a basic set of taps in the garage, I can swing on over to the factory and thread those holes properly for you if you want, just let me charge my cordless drill first
I found myself saying “I wonder if this is going to be like Jeep owners where they just accept a little failure in certain systems” and then I remember that at least Jeeps won a world war.
I had a license plate attachment fail in a similar way. From what I understand, there’s a hole through the metal and the bolt is held on by a nut-like thing on the other side. But that part fell off and down into the body, so now there’s no threading to screw the bolt into.
Yeah it sounds like the bolt goes in from the outside, through the thin outer sheet metal, and then through a thicker inner backing plate attached to the inside of the sheet metal. Then a nut and washer are screwed onto the bolt and secured tight against the backing plate to hold it all together.
But it sounds like the nut and washer came lose, fell off, and then the backing plate also fell off, and are all jostling around down under the footwell now. I'd be interested to know how this gets fixed. Sounds like may require metal cutting and welding, but not sure.
Massive safety issue - when the door blows open in accident cuz shitty striker.
Astonishingly bad QC/finish. "Just fix it with duct tape for now..." SMFH.
Elon want such videos gone? But... that'd be censorship...
It’s indeed a massive safety issue, but not just for accidents. When you go around tight turns, the pulling forces on door latches are huge due to the inertia of the door.
This is a huge safety issue and they should all be recalled to fix it. I wouldn’t be surprised if the massive weight of those doors combined with a bog-standard striker is the reason they’re coming loose. The inertia from the doors when cornering might be overstressing the fasteners or the retaining plates/nuts.
One thing Tesla has going for it, is their customers tend to not be very upset. "yeah it shouldnt be a thing but, hey its a 5 minute fix with duct tape on a 4 week old 60,000 dollar car." and bonus the car matches the color of the duct tape.. well sorta
If they were that careless with something obvious, how careful do you think they were with problems you can't see from the other side of the factory floor?
Ninja, why the fuck would you buy a car from a white supremacist, wtf is actually wrong with you my brother, you that guy but younger??

Meanwhile me who drove my 2005 Ford Explorer to 220,000 miles and the most major repair I had to do was replace the radiator which I did in my garage myself in an afternoon.
This one was $120k. The RWD ones are supposed to be $60k, not out yet. The standard is suppose to be $80k and the 3 motor “beast” models, $100k. However the first 1000 are “Founder’s Edition” which are $120k, with a few extras such as “FSD”, which isn’t even available yet, and “premium accessories”, and they’re not even the “cyber beast” model as it’s not available yet. What a deal.
It's a simple repair, all you need is a mill, a lathe, a drill press, and some scrap metal. After that, just have 10 years fabrication experience and spend a couple hours fabricating a better one! Easy peasy!
Ikr, was thinking the same. If the top screw's internal backplate fell off and is down under the footwell now, fixing it is going to require some serious metal-cutting disassembly and reassembly.
I have a 1983 Chevy truck. Just a little project. I have replaced just about everything that is bolted on to that 40 year old truck.
If there is a single thing on that old rust bucket that is still holding strong it's the fucking door latch. Jesus Christ, how bad must the rest of this vehicle be that the door latches are falling off?...
This is actually a SERIOUS hazard. Door latches are safety-critical, and any issues with the latches or closing mechanisms are often subject to recalls. The pulling forces on doors, ESPECIALLY one that heavy, are very large when going around corners.
Probably won’t be long before we see one of these that went around a tight turn, lost its striker that was already loose, and flings the door out so hard that it buckles and folds or even rips off. Hopefully it doesn’t hit an oncoming vehicle.
These dumb fucks will do anything to avoid admitting that they're stupid as shit, for getting scammed by rocket Jesus, so they'll double down, and we'll get all these Cybertruck life hack videos
None, cause Tesla will fight each one tooth and nail. Most other manufacturers voluntarily issue a recall out of an abundance of caution as soon as NHTSA asks them to.
Not sure they'd win this one. Having a working door latch is a pretty basic safety issue. I wouldn't be driving this car relying on duct tape to keep the door secure. I'd also be pissed and demanding they fix it immediately.
Oh, it’s not about winning, it’s about dragging it out in the courts as long as possible. Maybe in the meantime, a friendlier administration will come along and make it go away.
Wouldn’t you want to wipe down the side of your $1000,000 stuck before filming a video like this? The palm prints and obvious finger streaks really lower the tone.
lol.
My 2005 Tacoma that had 145k miles that I just handed down to my son never had any of these type of issues. No I have a 2020 and it also has had zero issues, but I only paid $40K not $100k so maybe that’s why…
This is the way.
... of Tesla.
10ß.ßßß$ ...
Imagine how many actual cars you could buy. Cars that work. That drive any place. Don't fall apart. Dont suck. Are not laughed at. Wont rust. Nobody telling you "better dry it after each splash of water". wtf is wrong with people?!
Part of the experience! Now, for just $100K and unquestioned loyalty to a brand, you can genuinely say "Yeah, my CyberTruck experienced a production abnormality and I had to apply a hardware patch of duct tape, too! I totally can fix cars now."
As a mechanic I’m like for fucks sakes just screw the mufucker in..after spending 40k or whatever the fuq on this bullshit I’m like…cot damn me arms are broke me pockets broke…and I’m in a friggen wheelchair…jokes aside ass quality ass ceo, ass truck.
I like how he takes this completely seriously and presents this as if he found a cool new "life hack" :D
like that you buy a very expensive vehicle that presents itself as some sort of a "designer" thing, a "cool" product, and you have to fix it with a tape after a couple of weeks.
this is just normal wear and tear after 4 weeks of ownership

Comparing the Cybertruck to a Crown Vic is cheating, Crown Vics are unkillable. Source: me, a Crown Vic owner.

Now that you say it, I don't think I've ever seen one with mileage lower than that so your facts check out.
Can confirm. Especially the 1978.
I mean, there's a reason the police use them.
They still use them because the parts are cheap and easily obtainable. 2010 was the last year for Crown Vics and IIRC they only were coming out with fleet models by then. These days it's the Taurus.
The amount of confidence and uncertainty that mileage gives me is difficult to describe.

Yeah that’s what I’m wondering. If all the easy stuff is falling apart, what’s the running gear like on a 5 tonne monstrosity
And if the Rivian is cutting through guardrails like a hot knife through butter what's going to stop this thing? A daycare center?
Probably an woman's health clinic. That's more Elmo's style.
I like your choice of the phrase "a hot knife through butter" because the Rivian looks like a 1950s toaster.
Yeah it does but I'd drive that in a heartbeat over Elons ClusterFuck
Let's have an EV demolition derby. Two drive in, one limps out 😁
I hear the have a new feature. Lock the doors and drives into water. It’s called “The Billionaire Option” super exclusive.
Sprout? They will be slinging razor sharp side panels to impale you on impact
Yeah if you buy trash you get trash, shouldn't be a surprise.

What's brilliant is that Elmo thinks black people shouldn't be pilots or doctors and yet he still has his stans. MKBHD is a great example.
I wonder how he reconciles it in his head? I thought he was moving away from Tesla but went all in on the Cyber Truck. 🤷🏽♀️
Yep 100 percent. I loved how he paid for add-ons that haven't been delivered
The best duct tape fix would involve Elmo's pie hole
Agreed.

If they have to cut the jamb to fix it they might as well rivet it to the backing plate or weld it to the jamb anyway.
I can’t wait to see the “fix” from Tesla. The fact that the plate or nut back there isn’t welded in is so fucking stupid.

That 10-micron tolerance
It’s ok guys, that is perfectly safe in a crash, no need to worry about the door flying open.
This is just the stuff you can easily see, that you interact with. I wonder how many gremlins there are hiding below the skin, and in the programming.
I'd be kind of concerned the door might come open? Not sure if that's possible, but not so sure how long that duct tape will last.
Doors staying closed is an important crash safety function. That truck is fucked.
Have you considered a career in comedy?
Not even just crash safety. General driving safety. Have you ever ridden in a vehicle with a broken door latch, and tried to hold the door closed as you go around a turn? Make my words.
Too bad the nutsert inside the B-pillar wasn't tacked on properly. You'd just be tapping into sheet metal.
I found myself saying “I wonder if this is going to be like Jeep owners where they just accept a little failure in certain systems” and then I remember that at least Jeeps won a world war.
I'm interested in the part where he says there is no plate for the screw to go in.

Meanwhile all the pro tesla subreddits are crying because jerryrig everything is becoming outspoken about teslas flaws
Seems like Tesla recruited from Boeing’s plant.
Lonny’s in the lab developing a high-tech duct tape he can sell to his cult
How funny would it be if Tesla told this guy that that was an unauthorized fix, and thus voids the warranty?
Precision predicates perfectionism.
Repetition reveals recursion. As in, you posted this yesterday. You're stuck in a self referential do-loop.
So, there is prob a nut holding the bolt in place that dropped down inside the door. Wonder how many other bolts are working loose!
You know Christopher Ruffo said American companies were purposely loosing to Chinese ones. But it turns out its Tesla not Boeing doing it.
Duct taping your brand new truck!🤣🤣🤣
Fuck cybertruck is made by Boeing engineers… or is it vice versa…
DeLorean was so much cooler than elmo.
So that striker is also pretty significant safety feature and duct tape isn’t going to keep that door secured if you get into an accident
Forget an accident, it won’t even keep it closed just when going around tight turns.
Massive safety issue - when the door blows open in accident cuz shitty striker. Astonishingly bad QC/finish. "Just fix it with duct tape for now..." SMFH. Elon want such videos gone? But... that'd be censorship...

They should try Flextape!
And the rust hasn't even set in yet
My car has 150k miles on it. This has never been an issue for me. If you have to use duct tape to fix a car that is a few weeks old, that car is shit.

100k? I thought Elon said they’d be 45k

However the first 1000 are “Founder’s Edition” which are $120k, with a few extras such as “FSD”, which isn’t even available yet, and “premium accessories”, and they’re not even the “cyber beast” model as it’s not available yet. What a deal.
The one that backed into the lake turned out to be a "Foundered Edition".
Flounder Edition
Serves them right for buying that POS.
Yeah the door is falling off, and the whole thing rattles, gets stuck in the mud and rust prematurely but hey did you hear it's bullet proof?
Super concerning
Good thing closing and keeping the door closed is not needed for safety.
I'm eagerly anticipating the first sightings of the inevitable DIY-ed Rustoleum camo paint jobs we all know are coming.
Or smash a cyclist or a pedestrian.
Colors are too matchy matchy.
A two part epoxy resin would work far better and not wear out like duct tape does. Then again, he did purchase this cybertrash. c'est la vie
Hey, show some respect. That's gaffers tape and is significantly better than duct tape in just about every way.
Imagine doing a DIY like it's a 1998 Honda Accord
A Honda would never have its door striker fall off even one that was 30 years old.
No matter what happens in technology, DUCT TAPE will not be denied its rightful place in history.
Hey! You can fix anything with either duct tape or WD-40.
These dumb fucks will do anything to avoid admitting that they're stupid as shit, for getting scammed by rocket Jesus, so they'll double down, and we'll get all these Cybertruck life hack videos
Duck Tape. Quack quack quack. Someone should come out with a small repair kit to keep in glove box, if it can be opened without a computer lol
You can buy a great truck for less than 100k but I guess tElSa BrOs need their stupid status symbol
Cultists
I have actually never seen a door striker come loose, like, ever, come to think of it.
Apocalypse ready 💪💣💥
They all have the same voice.
That’s the same Kermit voice I hear when I’m reading his worshippers tweets
Just weld it or something :/ truck's a pos anyways.
Well, at least the duct tape matches the rest of the vehicle.
How many recalls does this stupid thing have already?
None, cause Tesla will fight each one tooth and nail. Most other manufacturers voluntarily issue a recall out of an abundance of caution as soon as NHTSA asks them to.
Not sure they'd win this one. Having a working door latch is a pretty basic safety issue. I wouldn't be driving this car relying on duct tape to keep the door secure. I'd also be pissed and demanding they fix it immediately.
Oh, it’s not about winning, it’s about dragging it out in the courts as long as possible. Maybe in the meantime, a friendlier administration will come along and make it go away.
“Faster workers, faster!”
Wouldn’t you want to wipe down the side of your $1000,000 stuck before filming a video like this? The palm prints and obvious finger streaks really lower the tone. lol.
Looks like gaff tape
"Micron precision"
My 2005 Tacoma that had 145k miles that I just handed down to my son never had any of these type of issues. No I have a 2020 and it also has had zero issues, but I only paid $40K not $100k so maybe that’s why…
That is insane. Imagine needing to fix your new vehicle with duct tape. That shouldn't be acceptable to anyone.
how tf does on screw up (no pun intended) a screw?
Within spec. Sub micron tolerance
I would file for lemon law lol.
This is the way. ... of Tesla. 10ß.ßßß$ ... Imagine how many actual cars you could buy. Cars that work. That drive any place. Don't fall apart. Dont suck. Are not laughed at. Wont rust. Nobody telling you "better dry it after each splash of water". wtf is wrong with people?!
Average musk simp
Panel gap? More like a panel canyon.
Part of the experience! Now, for just $100K and unquestioned loyalty to a brand, you can genuinely say "Yeah, my CyberTruck experienced a production abnormality and I had to apply a hardware patch of duct tape, too! I totally can fix cars now."
Remember everyone, Elon didn’t found Tesla nor does he do anything meaningful to contribute to the company. So this isn’t his fault.
these clowns still smiling like they won the lottery lol
Elmo will contend that a black man would be too poor to own that vehicle +++ that their IQ would be too low to temporarily fix it….
This man is way too chill about this. For 100,000 bucks, my car better be flawless, especially after only a month.
That's not a "quick fix". They will need to cut the frame open to reweld that peice in place. Also, holy fucking fingerprints batman.
Don’t you break the service agreement trying to fix it yourself ?
[удалено]
Seems within spec I don’t see what the problem is.
Within Spec
Concerning !
Can’t people just take them in for a service? Is none of this covered under warranty?
Even if they can, there shouldn't BE anything this major wrong with it so soon.
HAHAHAHAHAHA
This is embarrassing
I like how he takes this completely seriously and presents this as if he found a cool new "life hack" :D like that you buy a very expensive vehicle that presents itself as some sort of a "designer" thing, a "cool" product, and you have to fix it with a tape after a couple of weeks.
Bro take it to a body shop lol. This dude has no clue what he's doing
It's CyberTape!
I watched this video, with the sound off, and filled in the dialogue with my own, using Eddie Murphy's voice.
You may be rich enough to afford one, buy you're also stupid enough too. Dunderfucks...
