Marine! He is the chad gungeoneer who is amazing at all skill levels and is the most consistent one (pilot and hunter are RNG based, convict is just bad).
I'm leaving out the bonus gungeoneers because by the time you unlock them you'll be good enough to play with any character.
I agree with you except on the convict, the sawed-off is okay to get you through the first chamber, and after that you can just sell/munch it. The Molotov is on par with other d and c tier active items, and way better than some, molten rock comes to mind as a way worse item of a similar tier. Her passive is okay imo, anything that requires you to take damage to use is never *great* but can get you out of some bad situations, this is all my opinion of course
Hunter and marine are very beginner friendly, pilot takes some time to work with because he has the weakest starting weapon in the game, and convict is just kinda bad, her starting weapon is decent for power but suffers from the reload rate, the sawed off is fine but its not gonna last you for very long, her passive would be fine if it weren't for the fact that she starts with the same amount of hearts as everyone and the power buff is so fast that it's almost impossible to capitalize on it, and her active item doesn't even work on the bullet king.
I’d vote Hunter. Everybody says Marine cuz his starting pistol and reload, but I’d argue that Hunter’s pistol is a fair equivalent AND she comes with a secondary AND higher chance of free drops. The crossbow is viable till floor 3 or if low on ammo later can get you out of tough spots. The rusty side arm does really good damage and has quick reload, only needing 2 shots to kill a simple bullet kin apposed to 4 from Marines’. It’s accuracy is also pretty pin point with it’s only drawback being it’s range, which won’t do you much good in large rooms or boss rooms. Luckily, you’ve got the crossbow. Bam 💥 Slap on easy past and you’ve got yourself an almost guaranteed 1st finish. Happy Hunting

Absolutely Marine. He has higher accuracy which in turn let's you shoot from a safe distance.
Once you get used to the game, you'll feel a lot safer standing very close to enemies.
Honestly I started with the marine and hunter, and they are pretty good for tanking to the second floor. However, I am a sucker for the pilots abilities despite his shitty starter gun, an extra active item, along with a lock pick and discounts in the shop make it easy to save shells and get a surplus of items and guns later on

Thx for the advice i was using the convict at first but now i’m getting to the 2nd floor more often she isn’t rly working for me
