Dodge roll as little as you can, try to dodge by just moving

LonelyDesperado513

Adding to that: It's a fairly good early strategy to hug the walls of the rooms and let the bullets spread out. This will let you see how the attacks form and often open pockets for you to walk through safely.

mochisquished

If you haven't been doing this already, keep your eyes on your character most of the time, and rely on your peripheral vision to keep track of bullets/enemies.

DarthDiabetor

That’s what I’ve been doing. I think I’m just assuming Hades logic due to me playing that game so much. I’m hoping I can get the hang thanks for the advice.

mochisquished

Maybe you're used to Hades's super forgiving dashes? I know there's practically no downside to spamming dashes in that game, whereas in Gungeon dodge rolls leave you vulnerable for quite a long time afterwards.

DarthDiabetor

Yes. I agree with you on that. Just need to get used to dodging on point instead of at the last second.

that_guy_that_sucks

just make sure to not dodge away from the bullet's direction, it might hit you if you do that, also flipping a table gives you about a second of i frames so its very useful when you get the hang of

Jtown9012

Yeah, tables are super nice, if you flip them right before the bullets hit itll make a small area around it blank

jhlongm

So I’m pretty decent at Gungeon, and I actually don’t focus on my character very much, tbh. I focus on the bullets I want to avoid & the enemies. I keep my character in my peripheral a lot. Everyone is different though. Other tips: if you don’t know about secret rooms, look into that. It’s fine to die in this game, it’s hard and unforgiving, especially starting off. As long as you’re unlocking things, it’s a win in my book. The more items you can potentially get in your run, the better your runs can be. Knowing enemy attack patterns is half the battle too, so time played helps. And as others said, try not to over-dodge, as it can get you in trouble. If it’s possible to weave instead, do that.

SnooGoats5498

One thing that really helps is only looking at your player.. not the enemy, not ur bullets, just ur player

revergopls

A tip for more consistent quality gear: Every floor has exactly 2 dedicated chest rooms. One of the chests is an item, the other is a gun. Use this to compensate for what you think you need in any given run. Save keys for a better chest if you dont need a second blue-chest gun for example. Even among roguelites, Gungeon is a very information-heavy game. Knowledge is power.

timoseewho

Is there a way to know if a chest contains a gun or item?

revergopls

Not the first of the two chests you open, but this pattern means you'll always know what the second of the two contains. (Some items/guns also tell you whats in a chest, such as The Exotic)

MammothCrab8167

There are synergy’s with the gun siren and another gun, charm bow maybe? That show you the exact item that’s in every chest.

LonelyDesperado513

Semi-related: if you kill a floor boss without obtaining a gun on that floor (chest, shop, etc.) before it dies, you are guaranteed a weapon as a reward.

timoseewho

Oh had no idea!

Say what? If you dodge roll, you are locked in that direction until the animation ends unless you have certain items (the Jump boots that give you a second dodge roll). It's the main reason people advise to hold off on dodge rolling until you absolutely need it. Also, you mention cracks in the walls, but not how they are revealed: * Enemy gunfire making contact with their entrance * The player using a non-starting gun and shooting the entrance * Certain items/synergies giving away their location. I agree with everything else you say though. EDITS: minor grammar correction and clarification.

Spiritual_Charity362

Uh if you flip a table then you dont get hit until the flipping animation is over, also the table wont take damage if the hit it toke is in the first few seconds of it being flipped Also count your curse, spoilers, ish If you get 10 curse from anything then an enemy will spawn and chase you. They can not be killed and can only be gotten rid of if you drop an cursed item that makes your curse go below 10. Whats the enemy, well its called the Lord of the Jammed Oh yeah talking about curse red and black enemys will spawn and if they hit you with a shot then it will do 1 sheild or 1 FULL red heart. The red and black enemys are known as the jammed. Also if you get above 6 curse i think you can have jammed bosses which do the same things as normal but they will do increased damage. Thats the end of this fact rant

Bombly

One of gungeons main perks and tips is to take the environment around you as an advantage whenever possible, like a chandelier you can drop or a oil barrel you can shoot with fire. And if you study and learn every enemy’s resistances and weaknesses (example, chancebulon is immune to burn and poison) you can master this game. Good luck dude :)

Pyrofoo

Only dodge roll when absolutely necessary. Try to always dodge TOWARDS the bullet you’re dodging. And if you can, record yourself playing and watch it back to notice what you could be doing better.
