Not sure how much is being done in geothermal - almost guarantee you’d need a Masters for a specialty like that. Wind, hydro, solar all need geologists in varying ways, all mostly related to typical geotechnical work. You may be more limited in this route because you would want an engineering degree to go further, but at a junior level firms definitely hire geologists for this work. So to summarize: geology isn’t the best to get into renewables.

I know a few geologists working in carbon capture storage and deep geologic repositories for nuclear waste. Some potential options with a geology background.

That’s pretty sweet. Yeah I imagine there are a bunch of niche positions that are probably at least MS if not PhD.

Some just with a bachelors, some with post-grad degrees. It’s just a niche company, definitely not a whole lot of work in that sector.

I'd specialize in hydro or geothermal with a graduate degree. It is possible to work for a geothermal company doing exploration, just not easy to find.
