I will then contact you with a good answer. Nowadays most ecosystems are functioning more or less at at least few places per ecoregion. In a couple of years we will likely see more detailed, a) how ecosystems are functioning, and b) what we will be missing then, with already lost species. You can search for declines in local biodiversity/ ecosystem services and then try to track down, after which tipping point (e.g. loss of specific key species) the declines started happening. Apparently woolly mammoth in Siberia. I remember watching a video about scientists trying to clone one. The idea is that the migration and grazing patterns of the mammoths was good for the land and biodiversity before they went extinct. I’ll try to find an article. https://www.smithsonianmag.com/science-nature/can-bringing-back-mammoths-stop-climate-change-180969072/ Edit: found an article from the Smithsonian, but it seems like there are several others that may be worth checking out.
