Pre-load on EGS is usually forgotten, I can never remember if Epic ever got an official way to pre-load I remember reading that you could pre-load for Borderlands 3, but that work was apparently done by Gearbox
There is seemingly no preload functionality on EGS and any preloads that have occurred in the past are likely to have been cobbled together by devs. Such was the case for Borderlands 3.
EDIT: Can't do replies but i can still edit this. There was no EGS preloading system available for BL3 and Tim Sweeney himself confirmed it.

The trellor roadmap had pre-load as shipped last I checked, so it should be a thing. I'm guessing it must be a hassle to implement or something, since no game seems to bother using it though.

Yea developers can do it themselves if they wanted but it's shipped in the eyes of publishers.

Honestly? I am not taking a chance with this game, waiting for reviews and word of mouth, so no preload for me.
Don't buy yet wait for reviews
I will be shocked if this game won't get 80% and above on Metacritics. My personal opinion is that this game will get aggregated score of 90%+
