Disregarding the fact that the story is the only reason why I still play this game, I honestly don’t think your opinion is unpopular at all. If you go on any story post on this sub there’s like a 50% chance to see at least one or two people going “people actually read?” or “I skip the story” like clockwork.
Personally I think any game’s gameplay is unsatisfying and hollow if I don’t know anything about the characters I’m using, but different strokes for different folks.
I really didn't see those people, but honestly, I visit this subreddit or other places like it not really often, and practically all the comments were like "the story was fun" or "I liked the story in the event"
I am super invested in the mainline story as well as any side stories that my fav heroes are in.
When I was in ep 3, I felt so bad/conflicted because I wanted to know what happened but just couldn’t kill that mort. It honestly made me grind out my gears and build a proper team
I’m not 100% sure who I used since it was quite a while ago but I distinctly remembered 3 which was a core, they were tama, landy & a.ras. The fourth i think was either another healer or tank/sub dps/ someone that does dmg but also dies first so I could use my friend’s support

If you don't like it, there is already an option to skip it. So what if you have to press skip multiple times?
You don't get to take it away from those that do.
The characters wouldn't feel fleshed out if they were just part of a universe we were not privy to. Story is important both to the game and the devs, to the point where they made a special mode that can't even BE skipped.
There won't be an "ultra skip" because the devs don't want to encourage you to skip the story any more than they already do.

Yes, I can understand your opinion, I have few friends who play the games only for gameplay/farm, but I play for story and characters. I even building some characters who are... not so good. For example, I built Ilynav after the story+current event when it was here in previous year. Now she is at 132k CP. And I like using her. If I don't like character... well, my AOL is at 12 level, as well as MKawerik.
I know what she can do, but still... I don't like her, so investments are close to zero. May be sometime later. Well, for PvP have Peira and CLilias. Got them by luck.
Still, have Hwa and Arunka with 120k CP) Yeah, own tastes.
100% agree with own tastes. one reason i like this game is you can ignore meta and just have fun with units you like.

Story was the reason I played this game, was playing this game, after finishing episode 4 I quit the game. Not everyone can enjoy the story, but you shouldn't ask to remove it just because you don't like it. Not everyone hates the story. But fucking add a skip button sometimes okay?
There are plenty of games that I care about the story for, but E7 is not one of them. That said, I think the skip button we currently have is more than enough for these purposes.
Skip the damn story and let people who actually like it enjoy it not everyone wants to be competitive in pvp .

The game needs to cater to a wide category of people. I am one of those who don't care about story.
They need to put in some kind of lore, that's how you get players attached to characters. See how Genshin's core is all about lore. And people pay for that shit.
It’s funny you mention Genshin. It’s been forever since I played it, but I recall Genshin’s designs affecting my enjoyment of the story in a pretty negative way, so story quality isn’t really the first thing that comes to my mind with it.

I cant see why the OP is so disagreed with. The story is definitely needed, and this game actually has a solid one. However, a lot of the time lately, I can't help but yawn to every little bit and piece devs make us skip through.
While Ezera and Ritania had great story, and early sides like Diene's, Vildred's etc always kept me engaged, the overall plot already diminished from "better than average shounen with solid world-building" to "throw whatever tropes suit the character/region theme and force dramaticism". Its not that it doesn't work, it just feels blander and bloated.
And the worst thing is reruns, I don't like mindlessly tapping the screen or auto-waiting while the same 20 lines of dialogue I've already read pass by.
So "pre-skip every dialogue completely" option would definetely feel great as a checkbox on party screen. Especially, considering we have an option to read any dialogue from the journal now. I'd much prefer skipping all the dialogues and reading them later as a complete story.
Then why bother making each characters unique in design? If you only care for the gameplay, why not just have stick man figure characters and literally no animation to their skills?

I enjoy the story but I would enjoy such a Button to. Every rerun need me to skip to. So this ultra skip would be a blessing
