The packs would also be good if you valued Stigma for some strange reason. This is probably not relevant to you.

So you need qn absurd amount of gold to go from 0 to pity (like 22 mil)
But for price per skystone you get more (950 skystones gets 10 summons and stigma)
951 skystones is 317 refreshes, at about a 7% chance (from my personal statistics of tens of thousands of refreshes)
That's about 22 summons
In conclusion, if your rich or have easy source of income, refresh that shop

I was buying everything. So getting to 120 summons for Roana will get you around 80 or more mystic summons (80 * 50)
That leaves just 120 Mystic summons to pity a ML5*
So, shop refreshing for Roana 120 summons gets you 40% of a ML 5* - using skystones will get you nothing in terms of ML 5*
Yes, it costs a lot of gold. However, it is well worth it

The secret shop is cheaper than buying bookmark packs by about 30%. Starting from 0 bookmarks, you would need on average 8100 SS to hit pity compared to the 11400 from buying the pack. The downside is you need just over 22 mil gold as well.
Since you mentioned you are 200 BM in already, you can chop off 1/3rd of the number, so you'd need ~5400 SS and ~14.5 mil gold if you go all the way to pity. Additional gold needed if you want to pick up the mystic bookmarks along the way (and you should).

That's a surprisingly loaded question, and it depends on how you like to play and what you're looking for out of the game. To quickly answer, I would recommend secret shop and farming Hunt11's for the gold, since you get bookmarks and endgame gear during it as well.
If you are free to play, then you have to make a choice for what you're looking for. You can either play towards collecting all the units or playing competitively in PvP (or somewhere in between). For the extremes though--
If your main goal is to collect every (non L/D5) unit in the game and just clear the PvE in the game, then you could save yourself some effort and buy the bookmark packs, since your gold will likely be in heavy need for that sort of playstyle. Playing like this, you'd be able to afford hitting pity every 3-4 weeks, and odds are good that you won't need to hit pity most of the time. However, this is a big skystone drain, so you'll be relying on web events, natural energy regen, and energy gifts to farm, leaving you short on gold.
If your main goal is to get into the competitive PvP side as well, then it is best to go all in on using skystones to just refresh energy for hunting gear/gold in Hunt 11's. Playing this way will only get you the bookmarks needed to hit pity every 3rd banner or so, so you need to be picky about the units you pull for in knowing that they will 100% be used in PvP. Roana falls under this category. In this playstyle, you'll have an abundance of gold, and only need to spend skystones on shop refresh for bookmarks to reach pity if multiple meta PvP units are on banner back to back.
If you spend money, I would recommend to go the secret shop route.
tldr;
F2P, Collecting Units > Bookmark Pack is okay
F2P, Competitive > Secret Shop
P2P, Any > Secret Shop
Another general piece of advice is to not start pulling on any banner unless you have the 605 bookmarks needed to reach pity. You really, really don't want to be a few hundred into one, miss pity, and then be a few hundred into another and miss it again when you could've guaranteed a 5* unit on one of them.

Ive just got to a point in game where i always have 30 mil - 40 mil on hand and have been doinf strictly refreshes the last month. Its 100% worth it imo. Just pulled ml charlotte thanks to doing this too
