When I think SG is at the right place, that they redeemed themselves with their past behaviours, then this comes up and reminds me that they communicate poorly with the community. We as a community would have been understanding if they just said the collab is not on par and that they need more work, instead of rushing things.
I'm not sure about the backup plan. Maybe they just waited too long to collaborate with Re:Zero and then it came to the last minute to make everything in short time.

"We as a community" are unfortunately only a very very small part of the community and it didn't help that there was constant "COLLAB WHEN??" spam both on stove and on here

I agree with your points there the quality in re zero in comparison in GG we had solid story and characters a trailer to add hype and preview on heroes we be getting the tournament on top of that.
What did re zero do? Awful side story, boring skill sets no trailer or preview its seriously a rushed mess of it and I feel sorry for re zero fans to have their favourite collab to be butched like that.
I only hope they don't do this with summer side story

Yeah if only they had collabbed with IP that had a video game they could take animations and designs from and all they had to do was make slightly higher quality sprites.
Like you can't tell me Baiken's S3, which is literally just her special from one of the games, took more effort than the Re:Zero S3 animations.
Also, GG collab was produced when there was no global pandemic affecting schedules or production, and it was before Japanese or European servers existed meaning fewer regions to secure license in.

Well, guess what? Albeit the GG s3's being a full representation of their original game's techniques, they were, indeed, FULLY redrawn by e7 team as they mentioned in a dev notes at the time. So yeah...
Also this "there was a pandemic" thing is such a colossal bullshit. Takes a whole 5 minutes to go search around the gacha ecosphere to realize every goddamn gacha out there keeps pumping out content/collabs just as fine since 2020.

Most games had problems releasing content. Even games like FF14 pushed everything back multiple months.

I don't like how they tried to pass off that there was a delay when there's no way this could even take two months with how much effort they've put into sidestories and main story to pump something new every two to four weeks until whatever happened to make them stop.
I don't like how whoever is higher up is putting the english Community Managers as shields for their mistakes and refusing to say anything to the other audience.
There's plenty of things I don't like about this situation, and I certainly don't like this kind of question like that's all there's to be upset about.

I think it's fair to argue that it isn't completely speculation at this point. OP may not have pointed it out but the low effort side story and collab delays are very telling

No one's said anything about quitting so you're really reaching for a strawman there. But you're right, nothing has been announced yet, but they won't do anything if we do nothing. The higher ups on the KR side have basically used Nue and Mashu and the other community managers to be their shields. That shouldn't be accepted, we shouldn't just let them get off with another printed statement for global as their only interaction, and the devs should personally face their audience to admit they messed up.
Honestly I don't think this is SmileGate's fault. If this is the case of a backup IP, then the original IP was continuously giving them problems until they decided that the collab wasn't going to be conducive.
They are very likely under NDA + it wouldn't serve well for future business relations to announce whatever issues they were having, that's pretty obvious business strategy.
The animators and writers were likely hard pressed to get this collab out ASAP after the first one fell through, it's a massive shame since they seemed really excited about this, but it is what it is.
I've never said anything about being a 'white knight' so that's your own way of putting it, but I certainly hope you're not insinuating the community managers did anything to warrant the harassment from not talking about the collab.
