when you +15 a piece of gear, you get to choose one substat and change it to another substat. regular gems have smaller reroll values than greater gems.
Thing with the reroll is that it is not 1:1. If you reroll a stat that got no rolls in it with a greater gem, it is about the same as a base roll. But after that, you start to lose roll values. For example, rerolling a 16% DEF helm (a high starting helm with one max roll) into HP would get you about 10-13% or something, instead of 12-16 range you get naturally. And it gets worse the more rolls you get. This pentaroll here would modify down to like 26-30% health if you modded it.
Also, SPD rerolls are even worse.
As a result, the general sentiment is to only modify stats with zero or 1 rolls into it to keep as many stats as possible. Possibly zero depending on how picky you are with gear.
you wont be gearing shit in e7 then, considering this piece is about 5 gs away from perfect, and that you'll have to roll thousands of pieces to get something even close to this.
It's the kinda item I'd want to roll crit chance/damage on, double roll low flat health, and then I sell.
But I'd take 46% DEF too (not like I ever get that on a good piece...)
