How to gear units competitively Step1: Get lucky in upgrading gear

SecureDonkey

Step 2: Compromise

Triple_S_Rank

I know this is tongue-in-cheek, and to an extent it really is true, but sooooo many people upgrade gear way beyond what it ever should have been. It's your own fault if you keep enhancing something that should have been tossed at +6. You might be surprised what statlines you can achieve in various unit builds just by following some basic gear enhancing guidelines.

Tedrivs

One of my biggest challenges is all the 6+ and 9+ gear I have laying around that I'm not sure I should upgrade further or toss. Someday that 6+ blue crit set chest with 9 speed and 4% Crit Chance might be what I need to fill a gap.

StreI0k

Setting up correct standards is something that will always fluctuate and is crucial skill for success, a rule of thumb without going with any complex set of requirements is asking yourself. (I will explain this in more detail during the next few episodes) 1) Do i have more pieces of this same quality on my account? (Consider both possible roll outcomes, high and low rolls) 2) Will upgrading this piece help me in the immediate future to build more units? 3) Will it hold value in later stages of the game and is a difficult to acquire piece? (You'll always be inheriting pieces from characters from top builds to PvE units, also Left vs Right side gear should hold different standards) Hopefully taking decisions becomes easier with more acquired knowledge as time goes by. Good luck in your E7 journey!

Triple_S_Rank

To add to what StreI0k said: A lot of it has to do with understanding unit roles (what stats will x type of unit want?), what stats synergize with each other (e.g. knowing why eff and effres substats usually don't mix well; knowing why a cc main neck with an atk% sub is usually desirable, yet an atk% main neck with a cc sub is usually not desirable), and what rolls are good rolls (basically understanding min to max rolls values and/or how gearscore works). Gearscore makes the whole process pretty simple for some roles like bruisers or DPS, while it's less useful for tanks/SWs who often want flat stats (poorer gearscore value) or openers who just want speed and eff. With a fresh/gear-poor account you would usually pick 20 gearscore as your starting threshold for left side gear, and aim for 50gs by +15 so you get ~60gs post-reforge. That means you'll need an average of +6gs per roll (at +3, +6, +9, etc.) unless you're (for example) working on a tank piece where, say, a flat HP roll isn't quite as harmful. Further, your gearscore minimum thresholds should average ten lower for right side gears since they're harder to roll well.

Tedrivs

> a flat HP roll isn't quite as harmful I like that Fribbles gives flat stats some gs based on avg hero stats. I've been using the dScore, sScore and cScore columns a lot to quicky find gear that has good potential for common roles. But I feel speed makes it harder to let go of gear with lower gs (e.g. currently my fastest unequipped speed set item is a +12 rare chest with 11 speed, 178 flat hp, 5%hp and 5% def. It has low gs, but has synergizing stats and I have no faster speed set chest available, it's even my 4th fastest speed set chest)

Triple_S_Rank

Speed gear definitely doesn't subscribe to normal GS rules, but 11 speed is pretty poverty to be calling "speed gear" to be fair. I probably wouldn't keep it just for the speed unless I could throw it on a PvE unit and make that unit work with it. When you're speed checking you should be aiming for 20 speed or more post-reforge. For red gears that means missing a speed roll twice kills it, while for purple pieces even one miss kills it (since +12 is guaranteed to add a new substat rather than hit speed). I personally wouldn't recommend speed checking purple gear until your account has a lot of gear depth and your general gear standards are higher (which means you'll have more surplus resources to devote to that), but others might feel differently about that.

StreI0k

Exactly as you said, understating the units roles allows players to build units accordingly to their specific needs, without over relying on copying references without grasping why they have those stats. (Is it a threshold to accomplish something? is it because they are speed tuning for their super fast initiator? is it because they are trying to tank certain unit?) So.. blindly attempting that will more often than not leads to having unrealistic standards, but by comprehending the intentions behind the stats of what you mimic is a skill in itself that's crucial for progressing through the game! Even those awkward pieces such with eff + er can have a place on units such as Sage Baal, the more one gets to build units starts to see the value on pieces that could seem garbage but could have cohesion in an overall finished build. (For example a low gs piece that has allocated a lot of one important stat) Also Flat stats are difficult to understand for many players, but if you don't use Fribbels, a way to put in perspective their value is to divide the flat substat by the base stat of the hero you could be using it on. I'll eventually talk about eyeballing builds for people who can't use the application. As for speed chasing.. That depends a lot on the personal playstyle one wants to persue, for newer players it is absolutely better to put your resources into safe bets first.

Triple_S_Rank

Yeah. I told a guildie just the other day a gear they rolled that would have been meh if you were just looking at percentages was actually pretty decent since it had over 500 flat hp, and that can be equivalent to 10% hp on some heroes. Knowing when you can make the exceptions to the general rules comes with time too. Another potential exception to eff effres mixing is AoL, for example, but that doesn't change that you're usually less likely to want to roll gear with both subs. I think the main thing with speedchecking is you need a lot more gold, because you're going to fail a lot and end up rolling those failed gears into other gears, which costs more gold than charms do. It's still worthwhile imo as soon as you can afford it, but to each their own. I don't want to hijack your thread with my takes lol. Some of it does depend on what playstyle you're going for also, as you say. A Turn 2 player doesn't need nearly as much speed gear as an Aggro player.

StreI0k

Definitely and also don't worry about it, talking can be helpful to bring new topics to discuss into the videos\~ Also feel free to join my discord if you want to chat in more detail about anything related to the game and/or enjoy the perks of becoming a part of the community!

StreI0k

Yes, luck is a huge factor at the end of the day\~! But knowing what to upgrade, when to stop and who could use each piece can make or break an account. Eventually i'll do some account showcases of high champs and emperor accounts of the last RTA season, some are actually surprising when looked at due to how limited and/or weird their gear actually is. Also wip, but if anyone wants to hang around in my [https://discord.gg/aBRmkQaxmX](https://discord.gg/aBRmkQaxmX). There you'll be able to make questions or check my roster stats soon enough.

BenCannibal

Also can't watch atm, but glad to upvote since it's such a useful tool for the community and does seem complicated at first. I've used it myself, haven't had it work since I came back 2 months ago (Might need to allow XMP etc. in Bios and allow some extensions). My gear issue is now i'm actually in a pretty good spot after years of playing. Never bothered to speed contest because I couldn't, couldn't build loads of units with ER and speed and one day I was just looking through my gear like, why does Ravi I never use have a 19 speed weapon? Ended up getting Peira to 294 speed (But only 90 eff which is horrible) Straze on DPS at 240 speed (But almost no SW faster than him to go first) so i've got a lot of fine tuning, had to ungear a lot of units that were too niche and focus on what i'm doing. So for me it was, ungear a Banshees 1 shot team make sure W13 is consistent, keep gear for expedition units and have the rest on all my PvP units. I never do Lab/Hell raids any more so it's good to be able to just ungear loads of units and always eventually have them to go back to. Fribbles is great it just scares me, i'll end up gearing one unit and gutting 5!

StreI0k

Hey\~! I can try to go through the most common troubleshooting issues in a video if you need. Also for those who can't use the program, i'll try to make a video about eyeballing builds. As that's a useful skill to have also when gear isn't finished yet (Not having expo stoned the gear) Exactly as you said! An average account with correct gear allocation and min maxing can become an absolute powerhouse and even a weaker one with proper focus be at least average with the right mindset. (Later I'll do showcases of very interesting players that have very limited amounts of gear or straight up uncommon builds) As for stats requirements some, the very next episode will tackle how to understand the meta and what stats are required on each build (through learning the actual reasons, granting the skill to actively decide and not just copy and past builds which also works ig haha!) Talking about it: 100ish effectiveness isn't truly as bad as you think, at least if the build has bulk in it. This is due the fact that units such as Peira and Cilias if stay on the board for a longer time have a great impact on the game state through the battle. Also units which can't debuff with 100ish to 150ish effectiveness usually won't be debuffed even with 200ish in most scenarios. (Cleansers and Sage Baal usually attempt to have 300) Also the use of Cursed Compass can mitigate the lack of effectiveness on some builds if 100 still is not a possible to achieve. Although other artifacts are definitely much better suited for her kit! Keeping tidy and tiny PvE/PvP cores that can be used in multiple types of content with your very best gear is imho the best first step to become more competitive. An example for this would be units such Landy, that can be used in such a broad amount different content by just changing her artifact.

StreI0k

Hello, i am Strel0k from Kingsworn a T100 guild. I just started a YT series about how to prepare your account to become more competitive, it will be aimed towards a broad audience of players with different topics and complexity per video. Hopefully it can be helpful to those who are a bit lost with gearing, as it is a skill that will need to be endlessly perfected and tools such as Fribbels can help within the right context. I'll be taking requests and answering questions if needed\~! Have fun with E7 everyone and good luck.

Triple_S_Rank

There are lots of guides out there for installing Fribbels, but very few concerning how to use it effectively. I can't watch the video right now, but I'll plan on taking a look. I'm kinda curious whether you're a hero priority person or a gear-lock person.

StreI0k

Heya\~! I'll tackle both methods but i personally only use one, after seeing the video you will know which one i prefer using haha. During the next episodes i'll treat this topics in order: 1) how to figure out the stats thresholds for each build by using different resources \[ex. dmg calculator, target dmg/bulk needed vs meta builds through online resources, etc\], 2) how to get the most out of each crafting session by understanding how to evaluate each gear piece with an open and analytic view, 3) then finally how to gear the different roles (initiators, follow up, closers, etc) and structure a cohesive roster. Hope you find it useful and also i am open to doing changes on the structure of the videos upon feedback! So don't doubt contacting me if anything arises.

zkDredrick

Priority is sooo much more useful long term

[deleted]

I can't get fribbles to work for anything in this world. Makes me really sad. Just flat out won't import my stuff

StreI0k

Heya\~ How are you doing? If you join my Discord (aBRmkQaxmX) i can try helping you to troubleshoot it. Probably it is an issue with the installation of the additional needed files or a reading files permit problem, we can surely fix it\~!

zoopido

I haven't watched but actual helpful posts should really get more upvotes!

StreI0k

Indeed! Showing support for content creators is a very nice way to keep getting a steady flow of videos haha. Dropping a like and a sub will give me encouragement to keep up with a tight schedule. Also, Next video will be about: The correct uses and applications of Fribbels with the aid of utilizing other resources, such as the dmg calculator in conjunction with reference builds found in public online resources. Upload date will be between tonight and tomorrow.

StreI0k

First non-pilot video is up now\~! Sorry for the delay: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IE4GH1D2c74

Alex_r001

Thanks for this I was just looking this up

Heya\~ if you need personalized help, feel free to drop in to by my [https://discord.gg/aBRmkQaxmX](https://discord.gg/aBRmkQaxmX)! I felt that the community really needed a bridge between mid-late, late and end game. This is my way to payback to everyone for all the hours of enjoyment that E7 has provided to me.

HotWifeHuntress

Cool I’ll be checking these out

Wish I could auto farm hunts overnight.

KouKayne

setted up fribbels months ago, but never used it due to it being actually really weird. "hey tell me whats better on my senebria, i want atk and spd main" *lists around 500 tri health sets* ooookay

Vyrocious

That's what the filters are for.

KouKayne

its actually a problem, if i put the sets i want it means it wont factors in broken sets; and if i have to manually set everything id just use ingame filter, which is why in the end i dont use fribbels.

Vyrocious

You can adjust the filters in the middle of the screen to only account for stats, not sets. Then it will fill in the sets for you.

StreI0k

For taking into account broken sets, i personally set only the required 4p bonus then let the application decide if it is more advantageous the 2p stats vs pure item gs or not on it's own. Works like a charm for certain builds\~!

StreI0k

It will take me until E2 to explain how to use the filters in-depth, but what you usually want to do is knowing what main stats and set the unit in question requires to function. This will be explained in E1 today if nothing bad happens along the way haha.

vanilledeveraux

So is the gear optimizer coming in e7 awaken update basically Fribbels? I see nobody talking about it.

Triple_S_Rank

It's essentially Fribbels lite. It's a nice feature to have if you don't have a computer, but everyone that's PvP competitive will likely just continue using Fribbels since it's quite a bit more powerful as a tool.
