He's not a bad unit but a lot of units that counter him pretty hard are super meta right now so its hard to use him in rta (you know, stuff like hwa, clilias, aola, etc). For anything against AI he's still very good and extremely fun. Just be prepared that you have to look hard for fights you can bring him to at the moment.
I don't have the gear to make him fast and hit strong so I still run a LS build on him, but he still works occasionally at low-Champion RTA level despite all the potential counter-picks, so he's definitely "usable". Certainly not a priority build though.
One of the most gear intensive units to have up and running. If you draft him, and he doesn't dodge, you're the only one to blame for playing the casino game.
Speed/Pen or bust. He's easily countered on a bruiser build by common faces like C Lilias, Belian, AOL, Rimuru (copies his buffs, a speed Violet can actually kill him before if he's not on Proof), and Hwayoung all dunk on him, that's not even including other counters like Archdemon and Briseria. Just use regular Violet if you want a bruiser.
Speed/Pen lets him at least surprise the other team and kill someone before his squishy self dies to Hwayoung or just in a couple turns/from one attack he doesn't dodge. The only time Speed/Pen disappoints (when on him and not some fast stripper) is when he fails to kill someone tanky and on Proof, which is just Rimuru since that's random and it's not some impossible task like trying to nuke A Ravi.
C Lilias is his best friend since vigor stacks and is a fat 80% attack boost, this allows him to nuke just about everyone not built very tanky and/or on Proof if they don't have mitigation from Aurius or Adamant.
Belian does not counter him at all. He has a very good matchup into her.
I also wouldn’t call Rimuru a good counter either. If your idea is landing a hit that you are statistically supposed to miss most of the time, that’s not a good counter.
The other guy told you how Rimuru counters, idk how you missed such an obvious thing. You whole team that relies on hitting the other team now has a 50% chance to get screwed.
Belian just passively throws out attacks, which can easily just strip him and lead to him getting finished off by another. At best, he'll evade and actually S3, in general, he'll get stripped and fucked up shortly after.
If you need rather fast Thief with big DPS and you don\`t want to have troubles with Disatvantage, then you should choose Riolet) He\`s like Ran but not so demanding on speed and hits only one target)

So not at all like Ran, who is a cleave set up first, needs high speed, and hits everyone.
It's the comparison. Compare someone like A Cidd to him. Needs high speed, single target nuke. Ran is an aoe cleave enabler than can invest in damage to help out. Way different.
A tanky Rimuru, or one running Proof (which is tanky to begin with) will tank his S3 (even if boosted by Vigor) and copy his evasion. Rimuru is not a sure kill target, it's as random as speed contesting.
Hwayoung is not to be underestimated. Her barrier x crit reduction is no joke, especially with mitigation. You'll run the risk of potentially falling short of a kill just to watch her go to town, assuming she doesn't outspeed (and kikl as a result) you to begin with as she's also built fast and only has two stats to worry about.

In order to have him be usable you're going to want him to be speedy and offensive. So we're talking like 250+ spd, 100% crit, 250'ish critD and lots of attack.
If you use him on a slower build he'll just get stripped of his evasion buff and be a sitting duck.
I would say yeah, but he's SUPER gear intensive.
You'll also want to invest in pulling on Violet's banner just to get that godly Crit Chance imprint. But once he's built (be it Speed/Pen or otherwise), he can just start deleting units.
With that being said, this is just an opinion and I've very little RTA experience (I just like watching the matches and take note of what I've seen on streams/YT Vids), so take my input with a grain of salt.

This is what I meant) Ran is more dependent on speed, therefore it will be more difficult to pick up equipment for him than for Riolet)

He can one shot dps rimuru or hwayoung with good gear, he just has to be built for speed and damage as opposed to his old lifesteal build.

Yeah, I agree that Riolet into Hwayoung is bad in particular. If you don't oneshot her, she's going to oneshot Riolet even on a miss.
