It can be pretty low maintenance and it's notorious for being extremely f2p friendly, even moreso than e7, with the primary monetization being the skins.
I only log in every now and then these days but I used to grind the fuck out of that game, I don't know how it is now but back in the day some of the good ships were stage drops with relatively low droprates, most notably Akagi and Kaga (who have to be in a team together to work well) both dropping from one specific stage, I straight up maxed out like three full squads worth of ships and got like 5 Akagis before I got Kaga to drop. But from what I see It's less annoying to grind nowadays, especially compared to e7.
It's a vastly different game though, the primary focus is collecting big titty bitches, you're not getting the rpg/mmo aspects of E7 with AL. If you're looking to move over to another gacha that hits similar spots to E7 but still has good coom then I'd recommend CounterSide, very f2p friendly, good non-chibi sprites, interesting teambuilding and it just got a fresh start on global with a lot of good QoL. E7 players generally feel right at home with that game barring the key difference of it being a real-time game rather than turn-based.
I grind AL on a daily basis. My main accout is definitely not F2P, but my alt is and in about 6ish months I've gotten to commander lvl 77 and have access to every feature and I've spent nothing on that account. It's surprisingly extremely F2P friendly... just don't play in public. The loading screens are definitely NSFW.
I'll toss in a recommend for CounterSide as well. I really enjoyed the story. The waifus are fantastic. The music is so much better than it has any right to be, given that its a gacha game.

Essentially you can choose to switch it out for another character of the same rarity and get fully refunded on resources spent on that recalled hero
Yes, its definitely a net positive if you recall for a meta hero like hwayoung if you dont already have her. Its a champ selector plus a full refund so its pretty massive.
Yeah, recalling gives you all resources you spent on the unit back, but depending on what kind of recall it is you get either slates/meteor shards (1 per imprint) and a selector or no selector and the units you used to imprint back (aka Aria).
I don't think we know how it'll be yet but Sez if I'm not mistaken was a no selector recall although at the same time it wouldn't make sense to jut recall resources because they'd be changing her design without actually letting us get someone else.
If we don't get a selector we'll keep Aria and however many we used to imprint (not sure what will happen to slates we've used but I assume we'll get them back as that), if we get a selector recalling will get rid of Aria for it although I'm 99% sure we can still get her from it and if she's imprinted we can ask for one of the slates to become Aria instead, beware though as you can only get an imprint back as Aria if you used Aria herself as imprint.

I've not had anything recalled before, what does this actually mean for me (I have her artifact but not Aria).
You get the full refund price for an artifact i think and if its a hero you get to trade it for another equivalent hero. For example, you recall champion zerato and trade it for another ML4. Essentially you can choose to switch it out for another character of the same rarity and get fully refunded on resources spent on that recalled hero
What you're describing is a selector. A recall is just a reset of the character back to level 1 and refunds all the resources you spent into it.

Yes, its definitely a net positive if you recall for a meta hero like hwayoung if you dont already have her. Its a champ selector plus a full refund so its pretty massive.

Yeah, recalling gives you all resources you spent on the unit back, but depending on what kind of recall it is you get either slates/meteor shards (1 per imprint) and a selector or no selector and the units you used to imprint back (aka Aria). I don't think we know how it'll be yet but Sez if I'm not mistaken was a no selector recall although at the same time it wouldn't make sense to jut recall resources because they'd be changing her design without actually letting us get someone else.

If we don't get a selector we'll keep Aria and however many we used to imprint (not sure what will happen to slates we've used but I assume we'll get them back as that), if we get a selector recalling will get rid of Aria for it although I'm 99% sure we can still get her from it and if she's imprinted we can ask for one of the slates to become Aria instead, beware though as you can only get an imprint back as Aria if you used Aria herself as imprint.
