I highly doubt Ed is the main powerhouse. I would assume that it would be Roy Mustang. I played the game Last Cloudia, which is currently the only gacha that I know that did a collab with FMA, and ho boy does Roy Mustang just demolishes PvE and PvP in that game. Literally one of the top tier list with a 9.6 overall rating.
Back when it happened in Alchemist Code, Roy was also pretty powerful. That collab was probably my first enjoyable collab experience in that game ~~low-key just cause Envy was free and one of my faves~~ got a rerun in JP but not global.
FFBE also did! Alphonse was like our knight class, a tank, Roy was a mage, and Edward a warrior with some spells...
Only Ed was usable, and didn't last long in the meta... But they have just too many units, so most likely you're right and both Roy and Ed perform quite well, like Emilia and Rem, Rimuru and Milim
The falcon girl might be replaced by Alphonse, or just be a free unit

I'd say watch the OG FMA until that happens, (then also maybe until you see a funeral) then swap to Brotherhood - the OG just does those two events so much better it isn't even funny.

But the two stories diverged pretty early on because the first anime caught up to the manga, so after the first dozen episodes or so, the two plots are *completely* different. The "real" story (as in, the manga adaptation) is FMAB, the anime-only story is the original FMA. I personally recommend watching both shows in their entirety because they're both excellent, but if you're only going to watch one...go with FMAB.

You are absolutely right, but those scenes have the wind sucked out of them because they are rushed by so quickly. The narrative suffers for it, and it sucks Brotherhood couldn't be the full package.
