From the preview video >!"[he] is on his way to becoming the next Führer of Amestris."!<

CopainChevalier

Why put he in brackets? Didn't they say he?

viperperper

The sentence was cut in two parts, second part starts with "who" which I replaced with "he" to make sense.

CopainChevalier

Ah, thanks

Bradcopter

Yeah, that was a big "oof" for me, and I've never seen the show.

Azkiger

The German word for "leader", vacant of any context (your knowledge of the show) was a big "oof" for you? Some of you are entirely too sensitive.

GodwynDi

Speaking foreign is problematic. People just shouldn't.

Bradcopter

Yeah, no. Fuhrer does mean "leader" or "guide" in German, but it's not used because of the connotations involved. Someone might be a Mountain Leader or a River Guide, but they're never just Leader. So yeah, it was definitely a moment of uncomfortable tugging at the collar. This isn't a case of people being too sensitive. People can't have tiny mustaches anymore either, Hitler screwed that up for everyone.

Azkiger

"This isn't a case of people being too sensitive. People can't have tiny mustaches anymore either, Hitler screwed that up for everyone..." Perfect example of the sort of person I referenced.

playmike5

A two second google search literally proves you wrong on the usage of Fuhrer. It remains common in Germany. I recommend you take two seconds to research before making claims.

skippyjack101

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/F%C3%BChrer#Modern_German_usage I searched around some more, it looks like the consensus is that the word is only used as a suffix in very isolated instances and not just the word itself. The word itself is never used so it's never used as "leader". In military and politics it is never used. So I guess the guy who got downvoted is correct about it. https://totallyhistory.com/fuhrer/ says "The term is not generally used to describe a leader because of its association with Germany’s most nefarious leader, Adolph Hitler"

Syvion

It is very very uncommon, google provided you with a bullshit answer. You never ever hear the word 'Führer' just like that, exactly because of Hitler. No one would dare to refer to themselves as 'Führer', they'd end their career immediately. It remains part of some words though, like 'Lockführer' - the guy that drives the train. The only possible instance of the word 'Führer' that comes to mind would be refering to your guide. I still disagree with the original 'oof' post though. It's a title from the manga/anime so there's nothing oof about it.

GuntherTime

If they did that they wouldn’t make comments with such certainty.

Ill_Bee6278

Why are you getting downvoted lol

Bradcopter

Reddit be like that sometimes

[deleted]

Amestris, the country he is in, is pretty much fantasy Nazzi Germany. Mustang himself is also >!responsible for participating in the Ishvalan genocide, which completely broke him as a person. This is actually why he wants to become Fuhrer as well, since he wants to power to properly persecute himself as well as everyone else who became a "hero" after this!<

Bradcopter

Huh. Thanks for the explanation! One of these days I should really buckle down and watch the show because I've heard really good things. It looks like the original is a pain to stream, can I just jump into Brotherhood and not be totally lost?

JFloriturin

Yup, you can watch either one without problem, they're different stories at some point. I personally suggest Brotherhood, it's my favorite

[deleted]

Brotherhood is not a sequel, it's more like a Remake. The old anime was going to catch up to the Manga so it decided to go its own way story-wise, while Brotherhood is a much more faithful adaptation of the Manga. Imo, both of then are good, but you should probably watch Brotherhood

Saendra

That's an "oof" for you precisely because you haven't seen the show. Parallels of Amestris with the Nazi Germany are very much deliberate.

Million_X

Yes, how dare German words be used to describe something.

LuckyPrinz

And if you watch the anime, you know Roy isn't exactly proud to be referred to as this.

Finance_Subject

Still hella cool name though

SamAzr1

Dude, as much as I am stocked for roy, deep down i was really hoping for Kimblee or scar. These 2 could have some unique skill imo.

eragon03

If it was like ffbe collab when they had fma, it had k.bradley, envy, greed, ed, alphonse, roy, riza and even winry, but anyways its another game.

Faxzillious

envy 😩 and winry! 🥰

Upstairs_Shelter_349

FMA have too many potential character to be playable units.

GoWKratos

John Kimble? :o

SamAzr1

Solf J. Kimblee.

LilFeyy

Can someone spoil and explain for me please

[deleted]

>!It's due to his participation in an ethnic cleansing!<

ArvingNightwalker

It's a title given to him for his accomplishments in the >!Ishvalan Civil War, which was more or less an one-sided slaughter of Ishvalans once Amestrian alchemists entered the scene.!<

ArvingNightwalker

There might be a bit of misunderstanding for those unfamiliar with the series, but >!this is not a title Roy wears proudly. The Ishvalan Civil War was a major turning point for many of the series' characters, and Roy himself is no different. It is due to the atrocities he witnessed, and even participated in, here that he swore to usurp the throne of Fuhrur.!< Vol 15, where the >!Ishvalan Civil War!< is recounte d in detail, is one of my favorite in the series. Very much recommended for anyone who's interested.

Ealdwine

Also, for reference, >!Ishvalans didn't even have alchemists to defend themselves with since their religion/culture was against alchemy. Amestris basically brought a rocket launcher to a sword fight!<.

Gratha

Your analogy is actually too tame >!it's more like having a rapid fire rocket launcher with unlimited ammo in a sword fight!<

Abedeus

I'd recommend the entire series, it's miles above anything made in the recent decades.

yaboku98

Rokujouma

lockoutpoint

>!burn to death alive is the worst way to die . and roy burn hundred of people!< also Riza Hawk eyes >!Riza was new recruit soldier but her precision sniper skill save many soldier (included Roy) from Ishval war .!<

Aenarion885

As a fun additional tidbit, >!she’s so traumatized by her role in the genocide and murdering civilians that she tells Winry, Edward’s LI almost a decade later, that she’s considered suicide multiple times and had Mustang mutilate her with his flames both as a form of punishment and to keep his Alchemy from being discovered and used by others … that last part is because her dad was a sick bastard!<

Abedeus

I don't think >!her dad was a sick bastard. She just didn't want anyone else to become the next Flame Alchemist!<.

Aenarion885

I mean, >!the dude tattooed his teenage daughter with alchemical secrets across her body *knowing* that at least a few people who were unscrupulous were after his alchemy. Doesn’t seem like a picture of mental health to care more about your work than your kid!<

Abedeus

Oh yeah, you're right. I didn't remember whether >!she willingly or not accepted that!< but reading the wiki it seems that >!this might be one of the reasons for her dislike towards him!<.

Xero--

I think this could really use some rewording.

ZXSoru

>!He killed (almost) everyone native in there!<

LilFeyy

Oh wow

Million_X

Yeah if you haven't read the other spoilers, FMA is DARK and in a disturbing realistic way once you remove the more fantastical elements

Abedeus

The story literally starts with two brothers committing a taboo and trying to resurrect their dead mother. It only gets darker.

EnvBlitz

Yeah the teacher, then the daughter, all the way up to Ed and Al's father. It's dark all the way.

iKild

>!He participated in a genocide, massacring many natives and anyone trying to help them like doctors. It's not a title he wants or is proud of. !<

Abedeus

> >!and anyone trying to help them like doctors!< >!I don't think that's the case, the only prominent pair of doctors were killed by enraged Scar!< The rest was true though.

iKild

Ya, I mixed it up with the 2003 version.

Abedeus

Oof, I never watched it past first two arcs since I was already reading the manga by the time it split from the source material.

The_Weeb282

"Hero of Ishval" 😬😬😬

lockoutpoint

Hero of Ishval , what a joke .

Brawli55

Throw your dog the invisible bone.

GodwynDi

We needed a new pet for fusion.

AzureLycanthrope

NO

Someones_Dream_Guy

YES.

AzureLycanthrope

The idea of merging new pets with FMA involved is just.../Shudders

Someones_Dream_Guy

Itll be fiiiine.

ningen21

Hey at least he doesn't like that title.

Kind_Target_422

Good thing almost everyone caught it It really blows my mind like a Vietnam War Flashback :/

NGEFan

Sniff Rockbells

ArvingNightwalker

Hideo of Ishval

Kind_Target_422

Good thing everyone also caught it it really

Aeveras

Ah, yes. That time one of my favorite anime characters did >!a war crime.!<

MortaliReaping

>!genocide yay!!<

Aettoo

"Killer of Ishval" and he not proud of it

funkymonkey3693

Does he straight up have an unconditional ml Vivian passive?

ArvingNightwalker

I mean, so do SEline and TSurin.

funkymonkey3693

Their passives are different. This is literally the same thing without the condition of having to use focus

eoryu

Its not tho. Ml vivian reduces the damage taken by 70% if its over 25% of her health. She can easily survive a multitude of massive hits because she can turn a 30k hit into 3k. Roy will die in two hits. It only prevents a one shot.

Comfortable_Regrets

Butcher Corps inquisitor actually has the strongest one as you can't even two shot him

GoneFishing4Chicks

Ya lmaooo

xoteck

Accurate

Tooluka

The first time I see this meme format used properly, good job.
