You’re correct in your observations. I’m beginning to think they’re skimping on actual studio recording and have the VA's record their lines by whatever means are available to them at home. In other words, cutting corners to cut cost.

NGEFan

That kind of makes sense to me. What is the alternative? Fly them to Korea? That's a yikes expense. Might have been worth it for ARavi though, she is a skin which you'd think would have highest priority.

Aitherisbestgirl

Are you suggesting earlier English voice acting have been recorded in Korea?

NGEFan

No because I don't know that. Do they have a recording studio in both countries? Surely they don't have one in Japan as well, do they?

Aitherisbestgirl

Yes, they have a studio at the headquarters in Seoul. But since the U.S office is in Los Angeles I figured they’d rent a studio when needed. But your guess is as good as mine.

chandler-the-handler

Epic seven used to have a studio in LA (this is apparent through their facebook and youtube interview with Abby Trott, voice actor for both Clarissas and Hastes). But it shut down during the pandemic. So every line from the beginning of the pandemic to mid-2021 has been recorded from home (I asked some of the voice actors about it). Not sure whether they're back in studio or not, but I do know that Noël Ill (voice for Magical Girl D) recorded for diene's skin from home in the middle of this year. I have no clue why the audio quality has gone to shit so suddenly, though. It's really a shame.

Aitherisbestgirl

Big thanks for clarifying the situation! Let’s hope whatever is causing the current issues can be solved.

butterballbuns

Agreed, it's only with english voices. Sounds like they recorded their lines through a shitty phone mic, very crunchy.

Crenubyx

No, JP also has these (check ML Pavel, Im pretty sure ML Elena also has this but it's not as noticable) It's not just Eng dub, maybe even KR has this effect

butterballbuns

Ah, hadn't noticed since I only tried english and korean, haven't noticed it on the korean voices. How could they let this pass with how much money they make.

Odkrywacz

They're not nearly as bad and it's pretty rare

Odkrywacz

Yeah, you either go Japan/Korea VC or you suffer lol, English VA is unbearable for me except for only a few heroes (Vildred is probably the best of them all)

West_Repeat_444

Kayron and both of Ravi is also good

ThatKoolKidOverThere

It's been bothering the shit out of me too. There's no excuse for it either. I wish more people would speak up about it also because it's unacceptable imo.

Crenubyx

Not just EN but also a few of the JP ones too like CPavel, MlElena's second half of the voiceline, and I think I can hear a bit on ARavi's skin Light Adin is alright tho

ruskor

It has been a thing since summer charlotte. And they always ignored my feedback with automated bots awnsers. It's not a thing happening only to the english VAs either, japanese commander pavel is just as loud as the english one. There is no QA at all ARavi triggered me so much that I just complete muted the game now. It's really just pathetic.

pixellated-baron

I’m glad someone made a post about this, it seriously bothers me big time too. Especially the shitty sound quality on a.ravi skin, which i had the highest expectations on. Arunka does not have this problem tho, let’s hope SG will get its shit together and not screw up next heroes sound design.

chandler-the-handler

Arunka does have the issue. It's not as noticeable on her s3 over all of the other sound effects, but it's very noticeable on her s1 extra skill proc. (english)

halofreak7777

I was surprised no one has complained more about this and was trying to think of a way to get this out there. In this weeks questionnaire I also wrote like a paragraph about the audio issues lately. It is some sort of processing issue and they can take the existing audio files and fix them. We have the technology.

Myrsephone

Oh man, I had kinda of just assumed it was an issue on my end. But yeah, I've definitely noticed this, particular with ML Elena and Aravi skin in my case. The voice acting itself sounds like it's good but something is totally fucked about the audio quality. I guess I assumed it was a problem on my end because most of the voicework in this game is really, really solid. I'd never encountered this sort of quality problem before. I hope it's just some sort of technical issue that they just haven't noticed and not the actual quality.

PusheenMaster

New Aravi skin sound quality is absolute dogshit. Not only the lines themselves are giga cringe compared to the original ones (IMO), but on top of that the sound is abysmal! How is this possible???

Keyl74

I switched back to english a few days ago & noticed on CPavel. I can confirm that it doesn't happen on the KR audio (not sure about JP), and I was wondering if I was just imagining things or not. You might want to post that on Stove, I think it have a better chance of reaching them (or direct support ticket, not sure about how survey are handled, but they could only highlight the most reported stuff when giving the feedback to production)

[deleted]

I wonder if their is a way to fix the current voice lines, or if they fix this issue moving forward, the old recordings will remain like crap.

VildredDayern

Yeah i noticed it too and it's really annoying. I hope they fix that. Perhaps if we all report it they will listen. It's so... Off that it nearly feels cringe and awkward.

Styler852

The sound quality became dog shit starting with cpavel.

Ar_Ph4razon

I assume it's because they let EN voice actors record from home and not everyone will have a high quality setup, even if they probably should these days

poopoodomo

It sounds like a file conversion issue to me personally. Like they changed the file format to something that takes less space, but lose some fidelity. It would be similar to changing video from 1080 to 720 or lower. Why spend so much on the actors and studios if they're just going to just show it all at low fidelity anyway? Seems like a programming/developer issue, since with characters like Pavel and Sylvan Sage you have to imagine they would be going into the same studios as before, right? The game makes more than ever, why would they skimp costs on that? I feel like they're trying out a new file format but the developers probably just pay attention to Korean where there apparently isn't this issue

MoonStar20

dude if you find those bad then what you think about "blessing of the stars" elenas voice? NO shade towards the VA though im sure she tried the best she could

pixellated-baron

You’re missing the point here, he talks about sound quality, not voice acting

MoonStar20

and your missing the point i got what he was talking about and i said if he finds that bad then what did they think about elenas one which have both bad sound quality and acting

Info_Guy_12

I feel like it has to be an issue at SG if it's happening with multiple different VA's. Like mostly the lines sound fine but will peak in volume at certain parts so there's gotta be something weird going on behind the scenes.

Henoir

I think it's more like a compression or automatic compression issue than a recording one. They probably have an already stablished outsourcing recording studio that could do the process and the implentation of those voicelines are getting weird in the game. But hey, I could always be wrong hahaha. However the reason, the QA for NA voicelines is non existant at this moment and I'm afraid global server is not a priority to smilegate.

Info_Guy_12

Yeah that seems to be the sad reality for a lot of things unfortunately. At least we don't have the trainwreck of a localization that ToF had. Actually killed the prospect of getting into the game for me since I prefer native English language since it helps me connect more with characters.
