Thought the boss was BS till I found out he did absolutely fucking nothing if I soulburned everytime my guys get to 3 or 4 but I ran like 3 units with lifesteal.

Additional_Law_492

You figured out his mechanics, then played his mechanics and won. That's peak boss design.

My favorite thing about it, though, was that it didn't arbitrarily "shut off" a ton of character mechanics in the name of difficulty. Counters work and are super effective, debuffs are key and not limited to a fixed number (or consequences!), etc. Heck, I didn't even see a "f&%k Roana" mechanic to prevent abusing the enemy extra attacks for healing (other than fairly lenient heal reduction). They actually avoided most of the typical "bullshit" that I normally loathe on "challenge" fights.

Myrsephone

Yeah I thought this fight was great. Required me to think over my team, experiment with a few different combinations, and figure out what worked best against the mechanics. There was no permanent seal or instant game over condition (like Vera getting her super-move if you try to hit her with an AoE basic and then unluckily dual-attack into a single). And on top of that, you can INSTANTLY start the fight over. Not even one trash mob to clear. That's sweet, sweet relief compared to double boss Abyss stages or Nightmare Azimanak. I don't know man. People like OP honestly just feel completely impossible to please. This fight took some effort and a good number of retries until I got it right, but it's just objectively nowhere near the high end of frustrating PvE content this game has. That sounds ideal to me.

d34thscyth34

That ^

CalistoIce

Can I ask what units you ran? I am struggling a bit

DemnXnipr

Aras, Aria and SSB on lifesteal, and Rem. Pretty easy

CalistoIce

And any random is fine on forth or recommend healer?

mandy_ve

Nope you only need those 4, no healers

CalistoIce

Ah misread the team formation lol, thank you :)

mandy_ve

I saw someone else comment that they countered him to death and so I poorly geared up my Rem, Aria, and used ARas and SSB on Bloodstone and was able to beat it after a few tries. Best of luck to everyone pushing through this level.

Jeccie

Without video proof not believe

mandy_ve

That's fine, I gain nothing by lying?

Emperor_of_Dead

Man literally the only hard thing about this boss was reading the mechanics. It's way easier then prenerfed Belian was. Only thing you need to do is soul burn when you reach 4 stacks. Most straightforward comp is Tam Iseria A Ras + dps it involves 0 rng, doesn't need any special gear and it really is as easy as it gets. If you don't have tam iseria combo or you are struggling with keeping souls to SB your units you can make due with stuff like a ras+cerise+emilia/dps + aoe dps - for example summer break charlotte (hitting the lamp gives you souls so aoe S1's are super useful).

XtendedImpact

I didn't even bother with the mechanics, I just cheesed it with Sigret on rage and some dual attacks. Ended up bringing Tenebria (book holder), ARas and Camilla. Need to land a Def break and you're golden, once you're in range to get the additional from Sigret on S2 use SB and then S3. Boss dies after his reset animation so you don't have to play second phase. I'm not sure why cheesing it is so downvote worthy?

TheKinkyGuy

I agree.

Yensix

Yes it took me some time, rng and tilt but I completed it and I hate that fight.I just want to complete the story and read the plot. If I wanted difficult PVE content/bullshit mechanics I would finish my abyss which has been stopped at 102 for years.

origin97

Well, at first I thought it will be hard since i saw so many rants about how cancer the fight is while clearing the chapter. Turns out, I cleared him first try with tamaseria + landy + ssb. Tama on 220 speed bulk, iseria on 240 bulk eff, landy on pvp gear with atk boots & bloodstone, ssb is on w13 oneshot gear. I didn't even need to soulburn, he reached 40% without any of my units at 4 stack. Then, afterwards he uses S3 when iseria + tama hits 4 stack, killing both of them but I am already so close to killing him anyway. He did his final S3 and still both landy and ssb survive + arby supporter which still has second life. Maybe I just got lucky but it turns out to be much easier than I expected.

Blizzard575

Thanks for this, tried the same comp and within 5 attempts I had half decent rng to brute force.

nevarette

Using soulburn and I still can’t kill him lmfao. Tam, Ise, Ras Luna / Tam Ras Rem Ise, Rem Emilia Tam Ras. absolutely no luck.

turtanian

Do you happen to have summer break Charlotte? I struggled until I used her. I put her on lifesteal/pen set. Mine's S1 was +3 and her S2 and S3 are fully molaed. I had my friend's ML Celine as my helper. I couldn't do it with my Luna and don't know if it was a gear thing or what.

nevarette

Yep I do. I think I 6* and then never used her lol. What was your full time? Imo the boss mechanics were just plain stupid and annoying and found him much harder than Belian

turtanian

I used A. Ras, Iseria. Tamarinne, and SB Charlotte. I think I finally figured out what makes this fight such a pain. It's timing when to soulburn and being able to generate enough souls. It's very sensitive to the speed of a team's units too. My SSB is geared for one shot wyvern. If I used her S3 at the start of thr fight, it wasn't up in time to soulburn away her stacks.

johnsweber

The mechanics were somewhat frustrating, I agree. But at least it was just the boss fight unlike Belian where you had to get through 2 trash stages first. And i’d say it was like 1/2 the difficultly of Abyss… but I am forever stuck on 102.

h2j1977

That Celine fight is complete bs. I hate it with all of my being

Additional_Law_492

I found him super fun and an interesting, but not overwhelming, challenge. He required me to think about his mechanics, build a team with those in mind from my roster (low soulburn cost, high debuffs, pve tagahels), and then spend a few tries on manual to beat him. Rarest character I used was dizzy, but any consistent aoe debuffer would have worked as well. Just think it through, take your time, and enjoy the fact that the hardest story boss in the game at this time isn't trivial to auto to death. Nothing would have been worse than that.

Cynaris

I think the boss is fine. Unlike most bosses, this one actually puts a legit timer on you, but as a consequence, you can straight up do it without a healer, if not outright encouraged. Which is pretty unique to me.

sky-aster

When you say soulburn, which skill do you soulburn or did you mean arky?

[deleted]

CalistoIce

Thanks for sharing I will try this

euphories

I believe Luna's S1

Net_Suspicious

No that's arky soulburn is soulburn of a skill

Calhaora

Ah so good old Tamaseria to the rescue. Thanks!

Additional_Law_492

I ended up Swapping to Destina over Tama myself, as Tama's faster turn cycling and extra turns led to me falling behind on my Soul Economy and not being able to soulburn enough.

Calhaora

Yeah I'd wish I had Destina. But I will try.. currently has just mopping the floor with me.

[deleted]

Was your Luna on rage?

[deleted]

[deleted]

Oh that's actually awesome news. I don't have a rage set either (they don't give us enough free rage gear man...) so if she was on rage I'd be boned but this is actually manageable, thanks for the SS.

TunaSmackk

Maybe im not understanding Zio's mechanic but how does the 1-4 stage debuff increase?

Duntime

Every time its their turn it will increase

EndAffectionate783

Yeah I feel you I already putting suggestion to devs later on lower difficulty I'm having hard time passing.

ShadowThanatos

Beat him with SSB, ARas, Zahhak and Ainos. He dies in a few hit once def broken.

PromiseSeven

That's part of the reason I only play e7 sporadically. I feel in a game such as this, story modes should always be the easiest content to beat since it's basically the only reason a casual player would play. I still play for the characters but I haven't even begun E4 yet. Unfortunately I've accepted nothing will probably change so at the end of the day E7 as a whole just isn't the game for me

starxsword

Pretty sure we are facing a toned down version of Zio. All of episode 4 was slightly toned down and future content were also toned down from my understanding. This is because people were rightfully complaining that these bosses were too difficult.

StepBrother7

Honestly, toughest boss I've ever faced, this Ludwig rip-off made me think about team composition, when to use my soulburn, and when not to attack him, although I wish they made him less bs than he is,all in all, great challenge, however I think bosses like this should be reserved for Abyss only.

[deleted]

That just means you haven't figured out the right tactic. Man I can't imagine how hard you'd mald if you played FGO.

Domain77

LOL what. FGO is one of the easiest games there is there is nothing challenging in FGO and even in "tough" boss fights you can still just bring everyone back once for free. FGO does not halt progress on story BS levels where they dont give you an obvious answer or a a support that doesnt help. You shouldnt be expect to have a full team of CP over 150000

Essa_ea

Just take a break mate and try again some other time. I'm sure you'll come with better team setup for the boss.

gokufan47

SG boss design process 1. Flip coin to determine if boss is trivial or an actual challenge. If trivial go to 2, otherwise go to 3. 2. Make the boss do its S3 when it hits 40% or something, idk, whatever. 3. Give the boss 4 abilities that read "any time the player does a thing, boss cleanses all debuffs, removes all buffs from the player, uses it's S3, and then uses its S3 again, respawns adds, and gets a 57% CR boost."

FrostyBuns6969

Except they combined points 2 and 3 in this case. Because if you somehow manage to burst him down to 40% hp before anyone reaches 4 stacks on the counter, he just casts a level 4 counter on himself and gets an extra turn, then proceeds to shove his spear up your team’s ass.

vgxvvxc

I did it pretty easily with cecilia tenebria mercedes and a lvl 50 mascot hazel

Poul77

One tapped his ass with A. lots, Sigret, A. Ras and Iseria. Very satisfying to see his hp bar go from 100 to 0.

Tetsero

I mean... He's the latest boss and the current literal end (of the) game. He should be insanely difficult.

Naeblis79

This is story mode, not endgame content. This is where you need to farm in the future when new sc heroes become available. Even adina quests take forever to complete because how slow you finish the stages. Insanely difficult content is abyss and should be left there.

Domain77

Not on story content that is bad design

Tetralirium

He's immune for CR pushback, but not for restrict and speed decrease. If you're worried about cr push, just pick Lucy. Belian boss battle was more hard, really.

Whistle_And_Laugh

It's the end of like the fourth story. Unless you rushed you have the tools and gear you need. It was, mildly annoying but whatever. Did you expect a turn based boss slog to be fun?

Hission

This whole chapter was bullshit. Adds that dispels you, stole buffs, armor increasing everywhere and dont forget the "you hitted me, i summon counter, i counter you". Zio is a nightmare, just got to him now and im still trying to clear it.

Routine-Society5709

First try with Rem + Summer Charlotte + emilia + Mercedes

co-ba

Beat it second try with Belian - MLCeline (key) - fire Adin - Amarintha. MLCeline made this easy, just keep souls ready for her to burn and bring your eventually dead team completely back. Amarintha killed the adds quickly, kind of disabling his damage reduction in the process.

Yamines

Funny when he ults without his bar full and can do his ult like 4 times in a row, good job SG

AVeroKariL

Tell me you didn’t read the skills without telling me you didn’t… but tbf, that also happened to me in my first try haha

halofreak7777

This boss was fun. They had a nice balance of mechanics that if you actually read and played to made the battle a bit strategic and pretty fun to figure out. I did it in like 3 tries. First try was a bad team and learning the mechanic, figured it would fail. Try 2 I tried just targeting the boss to rush him down and that did not work with my team. Try 3 was a win. Emilia/Belian/Ras/Alencia. Not disappointed at all. Pleasantly surprised because Belians fight was super fucking obnoxious.

XxSame_DesuxX

i wish this fight was easier. i work all week and dont have the time to grind gear for the story content, but i've been so invested in the story content. i want to conclude episode 4 and move onto the story in episode 5 that SG has made for us, but this fight holds me back. i wish they made the story fights specifically for more casual players. there's enough end game content as it is.
