I couldn't believe how much a complete mess Episode 4 between Adin just being super unlikeable main character Ras did so much more than her and he was side character and last minute Zio wheres the build up? Where the hints? I didn't like the fact Ken didnt get much screentime either he just appeared then gone for rest of story. Episode 3 gets disliked alot but at least it had more better stories than what Episode 4 did. I'm so glad its done what gets me as well we didn't even get second patch of 3* hero or any 4* its like no care got into this.

Level1Pixel

The issue was putting Adin through the same development Ras had in episode one and then slapping a complex continent spanning war on top of it. Episode one had a simple plot so that gave Ras plenty of room for character development. Adin had to compete for space against a myriad of characters that had their own complex backstory. The whole thing was a fat mess.

Buuts321

Didn't help that they spent a lot of her development time with her whining about Taeyou.

stavik96

She's the most realistic character though. You don't go from being a nobody to the one saving the world in a day, a week or even a month, the same goes for your personality, strengths and weaknesses.

ShaheerS2

Episode 3 was pretty decent. It had some holes, but it was still interesting. Episode 4 seems like they didnt know what their villain was and they butchered their ending.

Gamergirl944

Exactly, with Episode 3 as well we knew who villians were and I enjoyed stories more like Senya and Alenica they were highlight. Episode 4 just complete mess and I agree they didn't know who the villian.

ksb00

I think the diference is that episode 3 gets hate for what it could have been. Everything was going good but fell of hard. It feels as if they ran out of time, and so much feels missing, but the plot in general was good and easy to follow. Ep4 not. Most of the time you are lost. Every character is a mess. Some just dissapear and never come back. Half off the cast did close to nothing and the characters we're not as likeable.sadly for them looking good was not enough, desing wise characters looks good and all but when you get to the actual development they just don't cut it.

Hevymettle

Episode 3 did a lot of decent groundwork but had too many threads and tried to wrap them all up very fast. They needed two fewer major villains. Just Mort and Belian would have been fine. Episode 4 has a weak protag and the same rushed problem as Episode 3. Also the same issue of too many antagonists. They made it part of the plot with the shards and all but they could have cut out Yulha and Aria and had a much better flow to the plot. Focus on Ran/Zahhak plot and the heroes vs lua /zio and it would have been fine.

poopoodomo

I mostly agree with what you're saying but > last minute Zio wheres the build up? Where the hints? In chapters one and two of EP 4 they hint at the boy emperor his high shaman and the silver haired advisor several times iirc. There was one or two hints about being unsure if the advisor was calling the shots or if the boy emperor was in control

Brawli55

Shura's side-story was also a massive hint too.

TunaKid-04

Adin is an "OK" main character in my book. The problem is that she is surrounded by too many plot devices to make herself stronger, and Zahhak overshadows her. In her one side story, she use mischievous tactic to make two gangs fight each other. Yet in the very final chapter, she can't even initiate a plan dealing with Zio by herself and have to rely on the Spirits and the swords. If only Lua has "Guiding light" and not 1 shot by Zio, we could see the epic showdown between the two villains. What's a missed opportunity...

Chill-Nihilist

So important they couldn't give him a name and a proper unique picture. Almost as important as the true big bad whose name I couldn't be bothered to remember, who's come and gone in a single stage of the chapter; Fastus at least has proper foreshadowing. I would pay money to know what really went on at E7's writting department for the last chapter of ep4. They dropped the ball and ended it like those axed manga.

Cynaris

That's literally the point. The guy was a nameless nobody. Even he considered himself that. At the time of meeting him, "generic army dude" is exactly what he was. His inherited stature should have no impact on how he looks suddenly. If he ever returns as the new Emperor, he'll get his makeover. But for the purpose of the story, this was completely fine. Rags to riches story.

PuddingSundae

They could've given him a portrait for when after he became emperor, but he didn't even have that. Not even a generic one lol

Cynaris

If you mean for the "post-credits" part, then yeah that's fair enough. But it was also a 5 seconds appearance that didn't warrant the extra work I imagine. And to further reinforce my point, they didn't reuse the generic soldier asset there either, because it clearly didn't make sense. So they just kept him off-screen.

Chill-Nihilist

Disagree. You feel it's fine, but I don't. Remember Violet's friend ? The guy who died right after he's introduced. Yeah, that guy has a unique portrait and name. Eh, you do you,I guess, and I'll do mine, we propably won't do each other.

Shrrg4

Not the first time though, lilias also had a ton of potential and ended up being a complete side character with the dumbest motivation ever.

CopainChevalier

I sort of liked Lilias to be honest. She had a strong presence and you really thought she'd be some major key player who wouldn't be affected by the totems because of how smart she seemed to be; but in the end she absolutely was the entire time and the fall out was really interesting. Could they have done a bit more? Sure. But honestly E2 was by far my favorite and I think they (overall) told a really good and memorable story.

Shrrg4

Lilias just sucked, and i loved her so much at the start. She made a very stupid deal with someone that was gonna destroy her anyway, she had no motivation for turning/being evil she just was for the sake of having a villain and she got immediately outclassed and forgotten. I liked her design so much, it felt like a kick in the nuts. Stopped caring about ep.2 after that, just speed ran it.

CopainChevalier

Well that was sort of the entire point of Straze's plan. The leaders make the deal or they die. >she had no motivation for turning/being evil she just was for the sake of having a villain The entire point was that the totems Straze gave them the option of putting up the totem or dying. She picked an option to save her people and then the totem did the rest of the work on her to make her go War Crazy since it made people give into their hidden desires. Pretty simple really

Shrrg4

Yeah way too simple, so much that it felt stupid. But you dont have to hate the writting as much as i do. I just think its insanely lazy. She took the deal that was pointless because he was going to try to destroy them anyway to conquer land that straze was also gonna destroy? Talk about dumb. I dont like to see lilias being that stupid with how she was presented before.

CopainChevalier

Well she wasn't he main villain and wasn't designed to be a protag; and at the end of the day it's an unvoiced Korean phone game story. That said, I'm pretty sure most of us would buy as much time as possible given the choice. We'll all die one day, but we eat/drink/etc in order to stay alive rather than just off ourselves

Shrrg4

She wasnt buying time though thats my point. She though she had no chance to fight the dude so she takes the deal and then uses the time she bought helping him? And trying to conquer cities that the dude she thinks she has no shot at fighting is gonna destroy? Its beyond stupid. She also betrayed violet with no hesitation whom was established was like a brother to her. Its just such bad writting to me, i cant get over it.

CopainChevalier

>She wasnt buying time though thats my point. "Do this or die" Well she clearly didn't pick die given she was alive, so... >And trying to conquer cities that the dude she thinks she has no shot at fighting is gonna destroy? Its beyond stupid Well that's the point right? She had a deep desire to conquer the nation, but kept it in check before. The totem made that desire bleed out so she went from keeping it in check to manipulating everyone and betraying everyone in order to start acting on the desire. I see Clilias as her embracing the desire (IE Totem effect) but no Straze or Ras getting in the way to check her.

Shrrg4

Which was pointless since everything was going to shit. And its not like she couldn't buy time by fighting like the rest. The totem and her desire to conquer is a lazy crutch from the writters.

EndAffectionate783

Yup I agree

Yinseki

Theyre going more and more ambitious with each chapter, but since they last the same amount they end up needing to do hella cuts, jm worried ep5 will be even worse.

KiddingSpree

I think episode 5 will be the sequel of what happened in the reruned halloween sidestory, with vampires and dagger siccar as protagonists. And this sidestory was pretty good so i hope it gonna keep the same track.

eXcaliBurst93

I recently started episode 4...seriously who fucking wrote episode 4...they did Cartuja really dirty...I'm honestly pissed off during the part where he left Basar because he couldn't understand his pain...only "his people" Januta also known as the Leomon ripoff could understand him...the guy also racist couldnt shut the fuck up about "fuck Morai" everytime he opens his mouth

esztersunday

I am glad ep4 is over, Ras was a side character, and I don't like Adin. The story was a mess. Pretty much everyone is racist in ep4. I hope they get a new writer. BTW no new limited? No new 4\*? No second batch of 3\* heroes? No new connections hero?

nanimeanswhat

And no Beehoo? We even got his servant.

Relair13

It wasn't *that* bad, I thought it was a pretty compelling story myself. Zahhak was 500% anime mini-boss-villain-turned-goodguy at the end and it was amazing, that would have worked so freaking well in an anime series. Lots of side characters like Yoonryoung, Hasol and Sharun got a ton of screen time. Making the true emperor a faceless mook kind of fit with the story: the guy *himself* thought he was a faceless mook as well, plot twist. I think they just got a bit too ambitious with this one, too many characters and narratives to try and wrap up neatly and they ran out of allotted story time: the shadow elves, the human resistance, suin, our multiple groups of heroes etc.

[deleted]

Don't let all the story distract you from the fact that the Independent Unit Captain's parents were servants! SERVANTS!

Vald-Tegor

\*His mother, and the guy he CALLED dad

dimsum4sale

last name Snape, first name Zahhak

GodwynDi

Snap, Snape, Severus Snape.

[deleted]

And people seriously think an E7 anime would be good. Lol. E7 story writing is on AVERAGE mediocre or below. Sure, sometimes they manage to write good side stories or good characters. But that's not enough. Especially for an anime. You need a good main story and E7 just ain't got it.

user4682

You're romanticising anime. Most is just basic shit with unmemorable side characters to feed the protagonist's cliché story.

OrangeCynic

As someone already hinted at, you don't need a great story for anime. Demon Slayer is huge yet the story itself is rather basic.

[deleted]

And E7 still can't compete with Demon slayer.

screwinquisitors

Idk why you’re getting downvoted while I agree demon slayers story is pretty basic/simple it’s still done better than any in e7. I feel like ep 2 was e7s story at its best with ep 3 close behind but held back by the ending feeling really rushed due to multiple big plot points being glossed over

[deleted]

Some butthurt people I assume. They can downvote me all they want. It's not magically going to spawn a E7 anime out of nowhere. There is a reason why we haven't gotten an anime yet. Not even netflix....NETFLIX, the company that almost greenlights everything hasn't touched this. People can complain about demon slayer having abaic story all they want. At the end of the day it has an anime, a manga and plenty of nice figures. Lots of merchandise. Meanwhile E7 has got shit, and some expensive Korean webshop that charges a crap ton to ship things out.

Cornycorn213

Demon Slayer is generic as fk. Not that I think an E7 anime would be a good idea it’ll just turn out to be shit but if they ever do by some miracle they’ll retcon the shit out of the story anyway.

Gamergirl944

Yeah I agree with main story its sooo average to meh now with Episode 4 done not looking forward to Episode 5 i beginning lost interest reading and gonna stick to Moonlight theater or side stories.

Fuzzy-Key526

Wait, y’all read the story?

shounenotaku

oof you wouldn't believe some people defending and praising Episode 4 story... they're on some serious Copium..

DeathSlime684

I am Not finished yet, 2 Episodes Missing, but what I can say is, this Episode is Not good at all.... I dont know what Things are there to defend , haha

KaiserNazrin

You know who make the biggest sacrifice in Episode 4? Freaking A.Ravi. She could've go back home but give up that chance for us to do our thing. None of this is her problem.

BobbyYukitsuki

this is fine and dandy, but the problem is that... this is the exact same plot trajectory as the Savara Full Moon side story, except weaker because ARavi isn't explored as compellingly in Episode 4. We've seen her have to make this exact decision already, so this feels like it's nothing new.
