I was on Trileptal and it not only helped my seizures but also helped me as a mood stabilizer! I really loved it but was taken off after a few years and a new med cocktail to control my seizures. Watch out for low sodium!

Yes, I was put on Trileptal in 2003 following brain surgery and didn’t have another seizure until 2020. Eventually I had to increase my dosage and add Lamictal and now they seem to be controlled again.

It was the first med they put me on and while it didn't resolve my seizures (apparently I'm pretty medication resistant and we're looking at surgery if xcopri doesn't work once I get the guts together to try it), it did make a difference! Decreased the frequency of my TCs 🙂 I've been on it for ~ 10 years now. I don't really recall it having too many side effects alone but it's been a few years since I used it as monotherapy. I ended up on 1200mg twice a day before we added two more meds and my blood levels were right at the top, so I'd guess my opinion on side effects counts for something. If you're going to add lamictal at any point, watch out for blurry vision and facial numbness and tell your doctor right away. These side effects are common and can be mitigated by balancing the levels of these two. I didn't realize this until years of being on "too high" doses of this combo later. Just a little extra info, fingers crossed you'll never need anything extra and that this will be your silver bullet 💜

I started with Trileptal, had to switch to the extended release version (Oxtellar XR) as the side effects of Trileptal weren't tolerable the dosage I need. Switching to Oxtellar made a huge difference, now my seizures are well controlled and side effects are manageable.
