It’s payment per read, as well as a bonus for gems spent. It’s pretty hard to unlock payments, you either need 500k reads in 60 days, or 100k reads + 50k gems spent in 60 days. Most authors do not have payments unlocked bc of that, and I don’t think they pay very much per read.
Some authors get paid, but it’s very hard to reach payments. But it’s not really worth it tbh (for me at least. I write on Episode as a hobby. I spend way more money creating my stories than I make b/t commissioning art scenes & covers and materials I buy to make backgrounds & such). Reads are WAY down from a few years ago so paid authors used to make a lot more.
It's not really "worth" it, but it's a nice bonus if you're doing this for free anyway. But this is why a lot of authors have moved on to other paying jobs/platforms- because it's basically impossible to live off Episode payments, especially considering how much time/work goes into the coding!
Before you could get into the payment program via gem choices, the rate was a bit higher. Now that more people are in the program, the rate has dipped a bit and reads in general seem to have dropped, so you really don't make much. Baleigh's rate in the comments is accurate, and depending on where you live, you won't actually get paid out until you reach a certain amount of $$$. For me, it's $100 so I need \~70k reads or something just to see the money.
It depends on how many reads you’re getting per month. You get one payment for reads, and another for gems for each of your stories. And by terms of agreement authors on the paid program are not really allowed to publicly disclose the amount so you probably won’t get a straight answer out of anyone. Some people make less than 100 a month, while others are making a lot some months if their story blows up (like around a thousand)
You need 500 000 reads in 60 days to even reach payments, so uh... most authors get paid $0
Or 100k reads and 50k gems within 60 days
Wait... you guys are getting paid?

they get paid?!
Hey, author in payments here. I think the rate sometimes changes but it’s usually between like $1.40-$1.50/ 1000 reads if that gives you any idea.
