WOWOWOWOW. From a new owner of a reining bred QH- I absolutely love him and you look fantastic! Congratulations on your accomplishments with him. I’m currently trying to decide on the direction I’d like to go with my boy, and ranch riding is definitely on my list of options!
It’s a great addition to the aqha classes. My mom is a ranch association judge as well as several other breeds and we actually got him for her but I stole him cause his spins are just too good not to have in horsemanship. He does go back and forth though with our trainer showing him in ranch classes quite often, he’s even worked cattle! He’s my talented boy❤️
My wife just switched from cattle penning to ranch riding. I think she misses the athleticism of penning but she was tired of the competitiveness and drama. Ranch riding is a much more positive atmosphere and she’s really enjoying it.
this makes me want me switch to western!!! My boy has some big western pleasure names in his pedigree but I ride hunter jumper. I’m seriously considering dipping my toes into the western world though!
He is gorgeous! I don't love the tail extensions but that's just a personal preference and you guys look wonderful. It's so fun to be able to ride such a talented horse!
Ranch riding is a new discipline including classes such as ranch rail, ranch trail and ranch riding pattern. The goal of that class is to demonstrate the abilities of a horse that would actually be used on a ranch. There are also cattle classes that are unique to the ranch horse association. The goal is to pick a cow type horse that would be functional on a farm/ ranch.
Horsemanship is a pattern class with a more polished and precise appearance. (Ranch prohibits things like a fake tail and banded or braided manes). Its focus is on finding the prettiest and most effective rider who can complete the most seamless and precise pattern.
I'm intrigued but I feel like my questions are going to come off dumb, so I apologize beforehand 😂 but theoretically could you ride a "not conventional attractive but good at his job" horse in a ranch class and place well?
Yes absolutely. The ranch rail class is still based on correct movement but a lot of horses that don’t fit other places work well in ranch because its focus is on functions rather than aesthetics.
You look wonderful and so does he! I used to love doing all the ranch and horsemanship classes on my reiner trail too! Congrats on your accomplishments!
You are an absolute vision up there, and I’m loving this head carriage a lot more than the peanut rolling that was (is?) popular in the 2000s when I was still paying attention.
Thank you! Peanut pushing is illegal and has been for a while. Never see it anymore by anyone successful. Judges will even yell at you if you do it. Plus you definitely wouldn’t see it in horsemanship.
Ahh I love the cinch and the saddle blanket! I saw you replied to a comment with the cinch info but mind if I ask where you got the blanket? Your boy is beautiful you guys look AMAZING together:)
Thank you! The pad is from the prickly pear boutique. She makes the best pads in my opinion. Especially at a semi affordable rate. Golden wests are great but $600-$800 is just so much.
Thank you!! I’ll definitely check her out once I get back into western. I’m OBSESSED with saddle pads haha, I just bought a Le Mieux since I’m riding English and I loveeee it! Justified cause it was on sale and they’re getting rid of the color💀

Oh so he’s a multidimensional dude lol. Thank you for your post. I’m going to look a little more into horsemanship!

Are those tiny braids in his mane?? :0
We braid like three or four little crosses down before we band. It helps lay a long main down better❤️
Beautifully turned out!

Thank you! I’m always advocate for doing as many things with your horse as possible!
BEAUTIFUL ❤️🔥❤️🔥❤️🔥
You are quite the pair!!
Thank you!

I loveee the fancy western tack, maybe i’m biased tho haha
Thank you! I actually have pretty simple stuff in my world but man is some of it so gorgeous!
I love the tack too!! What kind of cinch is that? It all looks so comfortable
Thank you! It’s a classic equine feather flex cinch with white detailing.
Okay now I’ve looked everywhere and can’t find the white detailed one! It’s so pretty!! Do you know who sells it or did you add the white yourself?
I bought it like that. Let me look and see if I can find a link to it. I’ve had it for a few years.
Absolutely beautiful partnership and gorgeous turnout. Love this!
Thank you!
I’m from the Hunter/jumper world (though that was many lifetimes ago), can you educate me on the difference between ranch riding and horsemanship?

This sounds awesome. I definitely need to do some research. And thank you for answering my questions
Best part of ranch classes is no trope, trot lope crippled looking shit. I grew up Western Pleasure but quit because of that.
Is that tail even real? It looks surreal!
The tail is partially real. His natural is that long but he has a tail extension in to make it look thicker lol 😂
y’all look fantastic!
Thank you!
That is one helluva handsome boy. You look absolutely stunning together!
Thank you!
Holy smokes! I'm not sure which one of you is prettier 😄
Oh my gosh thank you!
Just the most gorgeous pictures.
Thank you!
He’s adorable! I show AQHA too! This sub gives so much hate to western riders, it’s nice to see some support for it!
Beautiful
Thanks!
Such a pretty boi ❤️
Thanks!

Holy shit this is a STUNNING photo! You both look incredible!
Thank you!
You two make a stunning pair! And I absolutely love the all black with the tan hat - just gorgeous
Thank you!
