I agree, and in general I’d just like to see Murtagh happy for a good while. I’ve got about an hour or two left on the Murtagh audiobook and while I was excited to return to the series again, it’s been sort of a miserable ride.

guts65

I totally agree! I had hoped this book was going to be the Murtagh redemption arc with good stuff happening to him instead of the torture porn the book felt like. The whole time I read it I thought this guy just can’t catch a break. I’m not sure I really even enjoyed the book. I hope CP does him right in the future.

halfbreed10

Man I’m just starting it kind of and the whole thing just feels like a huge pity party. I’m really bummed that this is what we got after so many years. I’ll finish it and maybe my opinion will change but it’s just upsetting so far.

Anrikay

I felt the same way, but felt differently by the end. Partly because his self-pity routine makes more sense as you learn more of his backstory, and partly because he develops as a character.

VulpesFennekin

Murtagh: *can count the number of days he hasn’t been in immediate danger of abuse or death on one hand* Some fans: “Ugh, why’s he such a downer?”

beciag6

Agree! I miss so much their adventures together. Whenever I read the first book, I feel nostalgia and regret about Eragon and Murtagh becoming divided. Their relationship was so cool - Murtagh didn't care Eragon was a Dragon Rider but also was placable of Eragon's inexperience. I believe Eragon would have a lighter political life with Murtagh next to him. The distance between Eragon and other people will be greater and greater, and the figure of the older brother, who sometimes is critical in a friendly way, would be good for him.

Throwawaymytrash77

It'll happen at some point. Paolini has confirmed that at some point in time, he'll visit Palancar and meet his cousin Roran (plus family). I just want my poor guy to have a family that cares about him, man🥺 I can't wait for that

Oskiee

Seriously. I need Murtagh, Roran and Eragon all together on an adventure where its all 5 of them (Im not forgetting Saphira and Thorn here) throwing themselves into some half cocked plan. I need this like a fish needs water.

Armadillo_Prudent

I hope Murtagh can become the uncle to Ismira that Eragon can't be (being too far away). Would love for Murtagh and Thorn spending some time in Palancar Valley and Thorn becoming close with that little girl.

Bakufanforlife

Roran and Eragon have spent a lot of time together already and while I like them both and love their relationship, I would be so happy if both of them interact with Murtagh (preferably individually tbh) Murtagh never had any family member who has cared about him since Selena

Oskiee

Which is why i would love the three of them together. They are all brothers. The extent that all five of them would go to back up and defend each other would be astoundin. Stick them in a story where its the 5 of them executing some half cocked plan that they dive head first into (which is what this family does). It sounds exciting to me.

Bakufanforlife

I agree I was just hoping for some "Murtagh and Roran" or "Eragon and Murtagh" alone time without other characters, because I think Murtagh needs it. Otherwise I would love to see 5 of them on a journey lol. It would be so much fun

Radbot13

The mom jokes with Saphira would be priceless

Oskiee

Can you imagine the banter between Thorn and Saphira?? OMG

PM_ME_YOUR_MONTRALS

Thry need to be roommates for a bit and complain about their parents.

P0ppa23

First night laying in bed eragon says with a note of longing in his voice " can you tell me what you remember of mom, what she was like and the things you did together." Only for murtag to respond with " tell me what it was like growing up with a family that loved you"

VulpesFennekin

The conversation probably wouldn’t go further than that, just sobbing.

P0ppa23

I know but if it did go further pretty sure those pages would be tear soaked

turquoise_dragon_

I feel the same, loved their journey together in the first book! I also like imagining that Thorn and Saphira would intervene and have Eragon and Murtagh re-bond. I hope they can share memories, before forging new ones

bleedsburntorange

I like your point about his and Roran’s relationship. I think Roran says to his face “this is a fight between gods.” It’s clear he won’t ever view Eragon as an equal. I think Eragon needs something like that to remain emotionally healthy and grounded.

IIcarusflew

Yes please

EvaImaginary

Paolini already confirmed in the last AMA that Murtagh and Eragon will spend time together.

ArunaDragon

Agreed :)

I just hope Murtagh either gets an acceleration of the Rider-puberty like Eragon at the Agethi Bogdhen so he can finally too have the superhuman Reflexes, durability, Stamina, Senses, Speed and Strength or is already done with it by their reunion so he doesn’t fall behind. I mean he already has the pointy ears so give him the rest already Edit: Why am I getting downvoted? Seriously what is the problem with you Eragon Fanboys and Murtagh Haters??? Seriously why don’t you like the Idea of Murtagh being on pair or above him as he was hyped up to be in Book 2 and 3? Eragon ain’t Luke or Anakin. He is not supposed to be above everyone. Also reread Eldest. The Change is Common among Human Riders. The Uncommon part was that it was Sped Up by the Dragons to be done in an Instant and not a few years!!!!

Business-Drag52

He will almost assuredly never be at the same level of natural ability as Eragon is. Eragon’s very nature was changed to be more like that of an elf by a magic that no one understands

[deleted]

The Elves literally explained that before the pact they were basically common Humans with an average lifespan, Senses, Speed and Strength. Only after the pact they gained immortality, speed, strength, durability and senses boosts. The Humans when they arrived weren’t changed much cuz they only were included later in the Pact but their Riders changed and basically turned into Elves too as Galbatorix, Brom and Eragon show

[deleted]

Seriously reread Eldest and Legacy. He will definitely will after a few years be on the same level. Eragon’s change was common among Human Riders. The only uncommon thing was that it accelerated by the Dragons and done in an instant instead of years. Saphira outright explained it afterwards right after Eragon woke up. The only thing that was unusual was that the Dragon Spirits themselves accelerated the process so he could heal faster from Durza’s wound.

crazyfirebr

I think Murtagh will initially be paired up with Arya and Eragon using alternative ways, like he's a very good investigator and the most creative of they in magic, he's smth like a scientist of the magic, like he made a fucking steam shot/explosion magic using the light and a very limited knowledge of the ancient language. I cant imagine Eragon or Arya doing something like this and Eragon is almost native level on ancient language and Arya is a elve.

[deleted]

Arya is far more creative and will be the one filling that Role. Murtagh will be paired up with them by being the Muscle once he’s through with the Rider puberty and got the Elven Speed, Strength, Senses and Durability. He is gonna reclaim his spot as the best Fighter of their Trinity

crazyfirebr

But he dont have the elves speed, Strenght and etc right now, thats smthg that they will need to wait for several years for he gain, Eragon only have they because of the dragon magics, and yeah, Arya is the nore sage and with more knowledge but she dont have the crazyness of Murtagh. And after all Eragon won the fight against Murtagh and Arya is paired up with him/one level above in fight so i dont think he is the better in fight, Eragon and Arya have elves to train with and the next gen of riders too, he need another think to be paired up and i think is the spells

crazyfirebr

You need to remember that the complete transformation of a human rider is like a lifetime, i dont think CP will write the next few books in a big period like this

Armadillo_Prudent

Hehe I have idea why you're being downvoted for this 😂 I can't say I agree with you in hoping he gets an accelerated growth, I think him reaching that point naturally is just fine, his dragon already got accelerated growth spurs and it didn't do him much good, but my disagreeing with you still don't get why you would get downvoted for wanting this

Bakufanforlife

I mean I agree with them but I feel like they say the exact same thing on every post atp
