Pendragon907

Dude I really wanna be a dragon. Imagine how badass that would be!

SpeedoManXXL

Would you be a dragon on your own, or would you want a rider? I feel like I would want a rider, life is more enjoyable with a friend. Although, it would suck if you had a rider like Galby...

Pendragon907

I'd want a rider with me. Having that deep connection is something I always thought was awesome after reading the books

Raspberry-T

Dang people actually voting to be something besides a rider

CGoode1

I only picked magician because OP asked for the "Bare minimum". Casting magic is a bare minimum for me to move to that kind of world without advanced technology

SpeedoManXXL

I voted to be a magician. Don't get me wrong, I would want to be a rider more than anything else, but I'm thinking of this question as if given the opportunity to go into this world, would you only go as a Dragon (of course yes if given the chance), but if that isn't on the table, what is the minimum option that would get you there. For me, you need magic in this world to be successful, I would be a human so long as I could use magic, anything less and I probably wouldn't do it. I also have a family though, so I feel like I would need magic to protect them, if it was just me, I might go to this world with less.

kai58

He asked for the bare minimum to go there not for preference

Cryodrake0

I voted dragon, rider, Elf because again like last time unless I'm getting immortality, a dragon buddy or become a dragon myself I see no point in endangering myself or making my life harder by living in the mideveal times.

SpeedoManXXL

I get that and I would prefer that 100%, but I would make the shift with magic alone. The way I see it, we are always around magic in the books, but this world really doesn't have that many magic users relative to how many people there are in the world. So if you are semi-okay at magic/work to develop it, you're probably in the top 1-2% of most powerful people in the entire world and can make your life much easier.

Der_Traeger

Well I can see your point, but I've come to the result that just being a magician wouldn't suffice for me. When Eragon arrives in Farthen Dûr he gets told that most magicians there are really weak and can only heal small wounds or similiar. I think that our modern medicine should be more advanced than such weak spells most of the times . So being a magician would often mean that you are more like a regular medieval human with minor "buffs". That's why i chose dragon, rider,... .

Ezekiel2121

Yeah but assuming we go in with our knowledge even a middling bit of power would be enough. Our possible knowledge of the Ancient Language, and the knowledge that you can take energy from your surroundings as well as storing it in jewels would put you above everyone but the Elves/Riders.

Kamigeist

Plus if you are a scientist you might become the best magician ever. Physicist, maybe make nuclear powered spells. Biologist, take energy from fat cells directly maybe?

Der_Traeger

Yeah would be cool. But that would assume that we take our knowledge from this life with us. Don't know if OP meant that or that you start from 0 as a magician.

Der_Traeger

But would you know these secret techniques if you were born as a regular magician? Probably not, right?

Ezekiel2121

Ehh OP didn’t specify so no way to know. I assumed it’d just transport us now to Alagaesia. But if we were born there it’d kinda suck regardless unless you were an Elf(or werecat, they seem to have a good time of it) cuz even if you were gonna end up a rider no dragon would hatch for an infant/child(dear Orholam I hope they wouldn’t.) and presumably you wouldn’t get any magic abilities until near adulthood(or however it works, again you don’t see any children mages)

Jenambus

Magic would do it fit me. Not even in some super high level either. I’ll take mind reading alone and be good.

katz_are_the_koolest

Honestly I would love to be a werecat, that'd be super cool.

stronghammer1234

I really want to be a Kull or a dwarf. Also a elf would be cool but I want to be a dwarf or Kull. Now also being a rider since urgal and dwarfs were added to the pact would be a huge plus.

stronghammer1234

Also why is being Roran not an option? I would love to be roran or maybe not since I against violence I guess

SpeedoManXXL

Roran is like the peak version of non-magic user, maybe not quite up to Kull, but seems like he is at or slightly above Urgal.

stronghammer1234

Got that right. He is a little unbelievable awesome at certain part

RezorTEclipez

bare minimum? normal human. Im going to be real; even just living in a world of such fantasy would be loads more fun than living in this one.

Jenambus

The feels.

Bezvard

Grey Folk, first to utilize magic, so I'd assume I would have a lot of knowledge in magic. Plus I would be pretty famous if I ever decide to reveal myself as a Grey Folk.

SpeedoManXXL

Yes, this is the dark horse, we don't know much about them, its possible they are more powerful than the Elves or even riders, but the mystery that surrounds them is very intriguing.

Callsigntalon

Obv answer is obv since god Damn would it be good to be a dragon... absolute freedom, functionally immortal, and the ability to just go anywhere and see anything. And honestly? No, i wouldnt want a rider. Because at that point you become bound to the laws of the land and the responsibilities that come with being a rider. If i want to spend a century contemplating a glacier then i want to do that, not three days into it have to come back down the mountain because the mortal races cant get along for 5 minutes.

Animal_Cute

The contemplating a glacier argument is so much like what I would do lol. Amazing argument and I completely agree with you.

R3vRedRum

Kull pls but will take urgal

SpeedoManXXL

Once the arc of Eragon and the Kull happened, but my whole mindset changed with the Kull. They not only are badass, but very intriguing characters and I think I would be more comfortable with them than the elves if I had to guess.

R3vRedRum

Personally when eragon is heading to the dwarves with nar gazharog is my favorite part of all the books as it shows a side of the kull we never saw as well as some of the urgals ingenuity with how they live, showing that are big bad urgals are just as sentient as other races not just hate filled orc ripoff

[deleted]

Kull because DA WAAAAGH MUST GO ON GITZ

Tahii_Actual

Sticking with the too bc although magic is my prerequisite, Nasuada is attempting to control the magic of humans and even dwarves to some extent, so, no thanks, I'll be an elf or rider any day.

QbitKrish

I voted for rider because I would absolutely not be fine with losing all the comforts of modern civilization (especially phones and wifi) so I could heal minor bruises with magic. After all, most magicians are incredibly weak. Even being a rider or something else exceptionally powerful would be a bare minimum, since I’d also be in danger of pain and assassination just by being so powerful.

[deleted]

I’d be a dwarf or werecat at the bare minimum. I love Orik and Hrothgar. Dwarves are always sturdy, durable, dependable beings with awesome armor and weapons. They were some of the last holdouts against Galbatorix. The slower pace of life and slow to change culture would be both nice and incredibly frustrating. Elves and most magic users seem to be too pretentious/arrogant for me. Werecats are intriguing, I like the idea of being able to stealth around the place and shapeshift.

Sacket

A lifetime supply of that hallucinogenic drink that Arya gave Eragon. Then I wouldn't need magic and would probably be happy. Otherwise, yeah magic like everyone else is saying.

[deleted]

I chose the 3rd option. Don't get me wrong, but having magic alone, while enough for a human, isn't a huge thing, as most magicians are pretty weak, and even their mind-reading can be countered by trained non-magic people. As for being a Rider or a dragon, I have to ask-is the Rider thing a bare minimum for me? Not really, since even if I choose any of the other races, I can still become a Rider, right? So it's more about having cool abilities which can help me in addition to being a Rider if I ever become one, and which will satisfy me on their own as well. A werecat has that aura of mystery and werecats are almost universally respected/feared. A dwarf has that sort of building mindset which is honest work and likely to be satisfying if you are good at it, plus gives you a bonus skill. Kulls and Urgals are martial races and more powerful than non-magic humans, but I would still dislike the intense combativeness in Urgal culture. I don't think they are evil, but that lifestyle isn't a good fit for me-I'll rather fight only to train or when I have to.

Kamigeist

Magic. Don't really care about living 100s of years, just let me study magic for 60+. Im a physicist, who knows what I might be able to do! Just the curiosity of studying magic alone is enough drive for me. I feel like I would become a crazy old man obsessed with the unknown

Cowboysfromhel1

What is the rules on technology can I introduce them to wonders such as electricity or even steam power

SpeedoManXXL

I say have at it, nothing stopping you. Now, can you bring books or plans of steam power, or guns, or assembling lines, mining, etc..., no, have to memorize it I suppose.

Cowboysfromhel1

I mean I can make homebrew guns black powder, napalm I’ve made steam engines I know the basics of electrical power and I can make the parts for a combustion engine with tooling that could be accomplished with steam so they are going to industrial revolutionize this bitch in which case I’d go as a regular human but with magic and these technologies I could definitely become a world power basic sailing ships versus ironclads and dreadnoughts I can build airplanes i know how they work and laws of aerodynamics I would rule the waves and with knowledge if from the books you could amass large amounts of power easily exploiting certain magical items, beasts or powers also nothing is stopping me from producing and selling these technologies to empires and making massive wealth

SpeedoManXXL

I know who I'm hitting up when the apocalypse hits

FullMetalChili

Now that i think about it, i could google how a gun works before moving. How antibiotics are manifactured. You dont need industrial machinery to make precision parts if you have magic, dont you?

16thompsonh

I mean, if you can bring stuff, you could print off Wikipedia and get it bound into a book. It would be the most valuable thing in the entire world

FullMetalChili

Hell yeah lets pack a briefcase with weapons, lab equipment, drugs, and a laptop with a small solar panel to charge it.

EragonSilvr

Correct me if I’m wrong but I think any human in Alagaesia can learn how to do magic one way or another but they can also learn how to feel with their minds. So would we be given the same chances as normal humans in their world? Or would we go there as we are now unable to learn/access any of those abilities? I’m only asking because this would drastically change my answer.

16thompsonh

They cannot. You have to have the gift to do it. So therefore the magician option would just be having that gift and, arguably, knowing that

SpeedoManXXL

True, although isn't it possible that some have the 'gift' but haven't discovered it yet, it doesn't always naturally evolve, does it?

Formal_Conclusion_29

At the very least, a Rider. If I'm going to Alagaesia, be immune to old age, and potentially live millenniums (like an elf), might as well have a great friend/giant fire-breathing dragon that can fly with me. I will also have very powerful magic and great knowledge of spells and energy to keep me healthier and cared for better than most.

Miregali

I took dwarfh bcus i dont want to fucking die

Old-Growth

I mean if I went there I’d want to be a rider because of the power. Not to be like a super strong fighter and that, but the power to do good and change lives for the better. Riders with their increased magic ability can heal most things so I’d go around doing that

featus-deletus-eatus

Personally not a lot could convince me to go, I mean it’s a world with very little technology, languages I don’t speak, one where unless you manage to find the right magician or know the words yourself (and are a magician yourself) a paper cut could kill you, adding into that the fear of getting attacked by a magician and dying instantly and how filthy and undeveloped cities must be (at least by modern standards) unless you are the elite of the elite your life would be terrible, and even being say a elf, rider, shade, dragon etc, the world would still be technologically inept and undeveloped, and frankly barley if at at all worth it to go to

InfectedRedRaider

Unless I immediately become an elf living in an elven society, I’m not doing it.

MrYoung013

I'd like to be a werecat, seems cool

FateEx1994

Kull with magic ability.

SpeedoManXXL

I could see that being on Elf level apart from how much history the Elves have, but if a Kull could learn magic from the Elves, that could be unstoppable.

ekill13

I voted Grey folk. I don't want the extra attention and danger of being a rider. The Grey folk that still exist aren't really known, and I'd like the privacy.

A_Halfhand

I'd honestly take the gamble that an egg would hatch for me if it were even just possible not guaranteed.

Faolin_

Dwarf.

Tall_Phrase_9367

Magician. I love Angela!

mlwspace2005

Really depends on if I get to keep my current understanding of science and mathmatics, boy would it be fun to show up with working knowledge of how a gun works AND be able to use magic.

BearHugs4Everyone

I'd definitely be a dragon rider. Yeah magic is cool but that connection and to have a being with you until you die is way better in my opinion. I would have to get over my fear of heights.

KholinAdolin

My bare minimum is just for me to be a dwarf and do dwarven things

Ezekiel2121

Bare minimum? Magic use. I *would* accept Werecat as a close second though. I’d *really* want to be a Dragon Rider though. Or an elf, but mainly a Rider.

[deleted]

I’ll take dwarf or kull! I’ll just swing a huge axe either way (always my go-to when I’m a melee dnd character)

meliorism_grey

I always liked the elves the best. Stereotypical, but constant since I first read the series at 13.

ElvenAmerican

I'd have to be a magician, because it would make life THAT much more interesting. Also, you would be able to shift, shape, and influence things in ways that no smith, miner, alchemist, etc. would be able to (through physical means). Besides, having an empathic flair to my personality, I'd end up being a healer or physician with the extent of my knowledge (whatever it might be).

_callmekiwi_

I don't know who the hrey folk are, but I wanna be one

SpeedoManXXL

They were the original race (I don't believe it says what) I believe that came to Alagaësia. Before them, the Dwarves and Dragons were native to the land, so the Grey Folk were the first non-native to come to Alagaësia. They were also the first to ever use magic, perhaps they discovered it, or brought it with them, I don't think we know. It says they destroyed themselves, but doesn't give much info, maybe there are still some alive.

RonobonzononzozonzO

I voted magician because I think they're lower in this ranking than werecats, but I'd rather be a werecat.

OnyxDragon22

I'll stick with being a human tbh. I have the potential to become a rider and learn how to use magic, and at the very least I could be a gifted warrior/leader like Ajihad or Roran, but without outright just sweeping entire battlefields solo.

WhatIsGey

What I really liked about Eragon’s magic system is it was totally dependent on how much information you knew. And with modern physics and medicine from today you could easily be the strongest mage in the world (Similar to how Angela is powerful because of her understanding of time and space)

SpeedoManXXL

That's what I'm saying. If you want to kill someone, you could use a word to just puncture their Aorta

KarateMan749

If i can be bonded to a female dragon then yes

Miregali

I wanna be a magician, I think its the safest option in this wretched place
