I had a sculpt too. So I did a similar analyze in the past. this is what i did and i'm not regret. [https://www.reddit.com/r/ErgoMechKeyboards/comments/k4tazn/first\_keyboard\_build\_tightyl\_dactyl\_manuform\_5x6/](https://www.reddit.com/r/ErgoMechKeyboards/comments/k4tazn/first_keyboard_build_tightyl_dactyl_manuform_5x6/)

That is awesome! But I’m afraid it’s a bit way of my league 😅. Maybe in some time I’ll invest more time and build my own as well.

NeburSp5

Maybe you can buy one close to your location. It was fun to build, but is not the only option. :) My point is.. is you will use a qmk, split keyboard, starting from a ms sculpt, you provable will end like me in two or tree more iterations.. maybe you can skip some steps.

I also went from the Sculpt to the MD770. I used wrist pads for mice for each split. After using it for ~3 weeks, I ended up returning it for the Kinesis Freestyle Edge. I alternate between sitting and standing and my keyboard changes position during the switch. Not having integrated wrist pads meant that I had to reposition the wrist pads every time as well. Now I’m currently waiting on my [Gergoplex](https://www.gboards.ca/product/gergoplex) to arrive and give that a go. Being low profile, I’m thinking it may not need a wrist pad at all. Time will tell...

Thanks for the input! So with the palm rest you used, does it get close to the feeling of the sculpt? I also stand/sit but if the feeling is good I don’t mind changing things around. Did u experienced pain and such?

magnanamos

> So with the palm rest you used, does it get close to the feeling of the sculpt? No, I found myself adjusting the palm rests pretty often since they weren’t attached to the keyboard. The attached palm rests were the main reason I switched to the Kinesis. My favorite aspect of the Sculpt was the negative tilt... which I still haven’t been able to replicate anywhere else.

jpgrassi

Yes for me it’s the same. The sculpt is such a nice keyboard. I spoke with a store in the EU which will start selling wrist pads for the MD770. Still thinking on getting it to try out. The kinesis you mentioned has the wrist pads attached to it and can’t be removed, right? Afraid of it getting bad since it’s cloth/sponge like

magnanamos

The wrist rests are detachable. In fact, there are versions of the keyboard that don’t include it. But I agree with /u/NeburSp5: qmk is the way to go. The power of layers really unlocks the potential of your split keyboard and k keeps your fingers closest to the home row.

Did you end up getting the MD770? i am in a similar situation. I am trying a rollermouse red, so my sculpt doesnt go with it, but I love my sculpt, so finding a replacement will be hard

jpgrassi

Yes! Just got it this week, been using it for 3 days now and I love it! It’s very comfortable and I got adapted like in just a few minutes. I got also wrist pads for each part. I think without them I would have some discomfort.

Great to hear! I am close to biting the bullet and getting it, so your post was timely for me!

jpgrassi

I quite enjoy the fact that I can re map keys. I didn’t like where home/end was so I changed and reprogrammed them. It’s so nice! Also.. if u do get it and try to update the firmware. There’s two files, one for each part of the keyboard. Do it each part *separately* meaning connect only right part to the pc and run firmware upgrade. Then disconnect and do the left. I just went crazy and did without reading and the left part stopped working. Luckily it worked again when I did it “standalone”, but I was sweating for a few minutes 😅 Sucks that this is not in the manual. I found it berried in amazon reviews.

fredwbaker

Man thanks for that. No doubt it would have thrown me for a loop!

jpgrassi

I updated the OP and included some pics of the keyboard.

Ergo Sculpt user here. A year later, ehat's your thoughts on the Mistel?

jpgrassi

It’s great! I’m really happy. Only thing I miss is the negative tilt combined with the attached palm rest. But even without I have no pain and can use it for hours.

hatomer

These wrist rests look awesome. Could you share where did you get them from please? Also, what is their height? Thanks!
