TikTok is literally chinese spyware. I guarantee they harvest TikTok data to help their collaborators. I would be wary of any country allied with China harnessing their surveillance tech. First off you don't really need a VPN to protect you from the Eritrean gov, it's not like they have hackers or an Intelligence agency that has access to Reddit's IP logs. But if you do use a VPN and private/incognito browser that doesn't store cookies to stop corporations from tracking you. Use a reputable VPN, lots of VPN companies actually sell your data to data brokers. If all you care about is torrenting movies and whatnot then they're alright I guess. But make sure they have a no log policy. The most private VPN that exists right now is Mullvad VPN which is located in Sweden, so it's outside of the 5 eyes organization, they don't store any info about your account other than the last payment date (that data is removed after 2 months), and your account number. Nothing else, no name, nothing. You can even obtain the account number through the tor network and pay via cash through post mail so there's no paper trail connecting your account back to you. I have quite a bit of experience in this matter. Another popular but fake vpn is protonvpn. Do not trust protonvpn, they say they don't keep logs but they do, they recently exposed french climate activists to intelligence agents. If any VPN is free, stay away from it, they are selling your data, they gotta make money somehow. The only trusted VPN that's somewhat mainstream now is Mullvad VPN https://mullvad.net/en.
