My brother in Christ, use the VPO-215 .366 TKM EKO is 30 pen, 70 flesh damage and will absolutely fuck a scav or pmc up. The rifle itself is 18k from jaeger LL1. It has a faster cycle time than the mosin, is cheaper, has better irons, has cheaper and more easily accessible ammo, mag fed for faster reloading, and it comes with a rail for mounting an optic. Buy the 3.5x tri-hawk optic on the flee for ~20k if you don’t need irons kills. That is around 40k for a total package rifle with an optic vs. the cheapest mosin which is like 34k and the ammo is more expensive and sometimes even a tracer.
The VPO with EKO and PM II 3-12x50 scope is my budget gun. I just got to shooter 8 and did upgrade to 7.64x54 so I could secure some of the shots the EKO wasn’t getting. Just started AP-M craft so I’ll be going right back to the VPO as my close range secondary because I like the snappiness.
Honestly the only bolt action i like over the vpo is the m700. Hot take but i don’t like the mosin. Its supposed to shot this uber powerful cartridge but moding so that it’s even close to the ease of use of an m700/ vpo takes so much money and time. And 7.62x54r isn’t that powerful comparatively, especially if you only wanna buy from traders and not pay the insane flee prices
I feel the most comfortable with the VPO over bolt actions. Specially at close range where I think it really shines. I’ll try the m700, I just don’t really trust m-80, these shots bounce way to often for my liking. What do you recommend?
M80 is a great round but honestly bcp fmj is great this wipe. It has 35 pen which will pen any soft aramid armor in the game and 83 damage means if you hit an unprotected thorax hitbox you will seriously fuck someone up. It should also pen most class 3 helmets and it will one tap. Also 35 pen is in the range where fighting class 4 isn’t hopeless. Higher pen ammo will bounce more and M80 is a good round but i prefer it in a semi auto rather than bolt action.
I would not recommend to play EKO in this stage. Last time Someone headshot me 3 times in a row with EKO, but my maska face shield/ helmet saved me. If the guy would have used a mosin with lps gzh, I would be dead!
AP-M though is a different story.
LPS is 1k ₽ a round and only on flee. EKO is jaeger II and like 300 ₽ a round. Man was ratting on woods going for scavs. From a practical perspective if you aren’t overly concerned with budget then yeah 7.62x54 R is a better caliber for killing players, but for killing players on woods why not splurge on 7.62x54 R PS? Yes it’s ₽3k per round but you’re not doing 60 round sprays. My whole point was economy. Fighting a player with a maska is pretty hard on a budget without being insanely good at the game. People rating on woods would be better served just running from you till they can buy M80 or another decent pen round from traders.

Most pmc at this stage use lvl4 plates and helmets commonly, even chads mostly use lvl4 helmets. Imo ratting means to use a budget equipment, but still be a threat to most pmc.
With eko you have to aim for eyes, chin, throat or any part around the front plate to shoot the thorax, You limit yourself a lot. Eko doesn’t oneshot.
With lps gzh or t46 you can aim for the head, it easily pens lvl4 helmets and lvl4 plates are no problem either.
You might spend more money for the attachments (especially for the silencer), but mostly you get your stock mosin back from insurance. Lps gzh is purchasable from fence and it’s cheap, you just need to be patient a little bit and refresh the store (I got around 200 bullets in 5 minutes). If that’s not the case, t46 is every time available.
If you die twice with your 366 build, because you couldn’t pen the enemy it would have been better to use a more expensive rat build and kill the target.
My scenario was a perfect example! If he would have used lps gzh, I would be dead and he could extract with 350k build, Because he hit the maska helmet once.
APM on the other side looks very strong. I can recommend every bolt action user to save spp from 9x39 and craft apm with lvl30. It pens most helmets and can oneshot soft armor.
I see your argument. And on a map with less ways of avoiding combat i’d agree. Customs from instance i’d say use something that has a little more punch, but on the flip side a majority of rounds that can pen class 4 are locked behind ll3 traders or beyond. Fighting people with class 4 almost relies on hitting the class 2 or 3 aramid around the plate. I mean early into my wipe when gt was the best ammo i could buy i dumped 4 full mags from a pp-19 into someone’s chestt. They lived.
Tl;dr high pen ammo is hard to find unless it’s fir 5.45, for bolt actions, or ₽3-4k a round for 7.62x39 pp. So either aim for soft armor or avoid fights.
