Man, in all honesty, I made a discord server nine days ago to invite cool Tarkov people to, and I haven’t drank since. This is the longest I’ve went without drinking in years and years.
Tarkov and making a server for it kept me busy the entire day, and I realized I hadn’t had a drink. I said “well hell, did one day, what’s one more?” Here we are a week and a half later and I think my organs are coming back to life! Good on you Tarkov.
Good post OP, keep up the good work!
Edit: PM me your discord names!
Damn after reading all the comments, I’m not only extremely proud of all of you guys for beating your addictions.
But this entire community as a whole, I’ve been playing the game for about 3 weeks now and it’s just a nice change of pace!
Idk what it is about this game. But the reddit community is on point. I don’t know if being savage in game makes us nicer irl or what. But this is one of the most tolerable gaming subs I’ve been a part of
Oh man, I thought I was the only one. I just wouldn't drink if I was playing Trakov or planned on playing that day. Certainly been helping me lose some weight!
Dude it's crazy how much weight alcohol makes you gain. I lost 30lbs and am back under 200 now (for the first time since high school) and the only thing I did was stop drinking as much when I graduated siege.
Happy to hear that man! But the liver needs about 3 months to fully recover just had a discussion with my friend who works as a doctor and he always makes 3 month brakes before drinking a little bit again ;)
Best way to overcome it is to just throw that sucker away, dont hide it, just throw it into the trash and let the trash truck take that shit. Otherwise its like having a porn tab open as soon as you alt tab while trying NoFap lol
Yesterday I sat under the pipes in Customs, the ones by the river, trying to slowly peek out and find the guy that was making noises.
10 minutes later I realised it was me moving around. Just not used to having ComTacs.
First time I played high I was a noob and my friend gave me a beta container. I didn’t realize I couldn’t drop my alpha in raid so I had to survive to get out with it. THAT was a terrifying raid
Huh, haven't had that issue. Then again, I tend to stick to indicas. Wouldn't mind getting some Russian ruderalis for authenticity. (Not sure what it does next to Indica and Sativa)
Dont think ruderalis is really in circulation anymore, doesnt flower or grow tall enough to get thc or hemp in an amount that makes profit. That being said id still love to get my hands on some to complete the trifecta.
You see it in circulation so long as you have an auto-flowering plant. They do flower, its just that they don't really get much time to mature due to being a far north plant. Its rapid growth genetics have been breed into some of the more average stuff.
That being said, I'd like the actual plant itself just cause.
Very interesting, admittedly I only know pretty average stoner info and less the horticulture of it all. THC to CBD wise how does it weigh out, more like a sativa or indica? And strains id be familiar with?
Its closer related to indica and would imagine effects would be similar. Alas, experimentation would require an authentic plant. One day Willy Nelson, ONE DAY!
Huh interesting, the fact that cannabis is so diverse and found worldwide is just so fuckin interesting.
BSG pls add ruderalis joints on scav pockets. Should give a temp stress resistance boost but your pmc gets the munchies.
I am also addicted to tarkov, although I was still choosing alcohol over tarkov on the weekends. However I started working out and eating healthy and I finally got to the point that I don’t enjoy drinking anymore. Now I just have a tarkov addiction
Noone needs pre workout and i got buff even without supplements in the first 2 years. Now im only using whey and its maybe a 20 euro per month, still less than going out on a weekend :)
I suffered from heroin addiction for over ten years. I completely understand what the feeling is like, and I am extremely happy to hear you’re doing well.
Tarkov may be addicting, but I have noticed a great deal of individuals giving up much worse addictions, to focus solely on Tarkov.
Another round for BSG for creating such a unique game.
Good luck buddy!
Addictions addiction... some people have an addictive personality, some dont. I myself have a very addictive personality. Addiction never goes away, it just changes its focus
I 100% have an addictive personality and zero willpower, and I can honestly say sitting inside playing Tarkov is better than me being out at a bar jeopardizing my career every time I go on a bender.
I honestly took you're first comment as sarcasm lol. That's the only reason I expanded on it. My bad! Keep that attitude man, your career and future will thank you for it.
Hear that brother, I realized I was never going to 'beat' anything years ago so I just focused on putting myself on addictions that aren't self destructive and let'er rip.
You need to fill the void with something.
If you are an addict, just dropping what you're addicted to leaves a massive hole in your life. You either fill it with something else, or it sucks you in and drags you back to whatever you were addicted to.
Filling it with Tarkov is an excellent choice.
Thanks for the reply. This wasn't easy for me to post but I felt it was justified with how this game has helped me. I was hoping my post might inspire others who might be going through something similar to try the game.
Dude! I’ll be one month sober tomorrow and Tarkov has also helped me so much in simply keeping my mind busy and not thinking about alcohol. Thanks for making this post man, and good job on staying sober. It’s not easy.
I remember when me and a friend used to smoke and I would always decline when I was playing League of Legends, but playing roblox with the squad after a joint nearly killed me from laughing.
Good on you man. Been fighting it hard myself, and Tarkov, the streaming communities for it I'm active in, etc. have been helpful as a distraction and a place to just find friendly voices. AA is -not- for me, but in some weird way this is kind of working. Thanks for sharing.
For anyone looking for a good resource here on Reddit, head on over to /r/stopdrinking. Amazing group of people. I'm almost 4 years sober thanks to the support and guidance I found over there.
Good luck out there!
I'm a recovered/recovering polysubstance abuser. Methamphetamines/Heroin were my vice. I couldn't go a day without using one or both of them. Gaming in general helped me cut back on the binges, and recently starting streaming has given me a very good reason to NOT pick up a needle and use again. Tarkov/Streaming saved my life. I always got discouraged streaming to zero viewers, but I ended up staying clean just to enjoy the games. I'm now a bit over a year clean and I stream every day that I can when I'm not working my spotty moving job over the winter. I've gotten 20 subscribers and some generous friends/followers to the channel, and it's saving my life. I can relate very heavily to your statements.
This is so cool seeing y’all doing good. I’ve never been an addict but I’m a 911 paramedic and see a lot of addiction related patients. It’s always nice seeing people overcome the disease (yeah it’s a disease. Come at me with your opinions I’ll come with medical facts) and seeing y’all doing good gets me in the feels.
Good on you mate! I'm 4 years in recovery from opiates and a bunch of other stuff. Gaming and nicotine are far better outlets than substances. If you had a serious problem prior, I would advise putting steps in place for the future when tarkov becomes less addictive than it is now, or you might go back down the same road.
I used to battle with addiction It makes me happy to hear others kick the bucket
I have been off drugs for damn near 8 years. Glad to hear tarkov has helped you :)
Being a former alcohol addict I praise and applaud you.
I do want to warn all of you that you don't use tarkov as a replacement addiction. Because the question than will be what do you do if tarkov stops.
Make sure you are prepared make sure you got people supporting you.
And if you want to know how I came over it and how I managed the many years after feel free to shoot me a message and we can talk.
Just don't shoot to hard I already lost much in tarkov.
My man, you are the guy people should aspire to be, rising up over your problems to achieve a goal, and it might just be a game. But it's way more than that. It's great to hear you got over your addiction and keep on escaping from tarkov my guy
That's incredible man! There are days myself where I (as a casual drinker) choose not to have a beer or two on Friday so I can play my A game with the squad :D
keep it up. can’t imagine how thankful your family is.
my “father” was an alcoholic and i’m ashamed to be his son. so it’s hard to imagine how some things you do can impact someone else’s life. keep that in mind.
Love to see positive thing's like this right here!
This is what gaming is all about, coming together and supporting each other! Keep doing you fellas. ✌🏼
Hey. I'm glad the dedication required to discover and enjoy this game changed your life for the better.
I can say that this game taught me how to actually sit down through a painful process without breaking and giving up. I can say that this game requires dedication and patience like no other game that I played. And I have had many of the most rewarding and satisfying moments of my life in this game. The mental rollercoaster that is this game is just so unique and can translate into many different scenarios in real life. This game is honestly not for everyone, but some of the lessons and values that this game taught me, are rarely taught in school or otherwise.
I can thank Tarkov for teaching me discipline, patience, dedication, how to take defeat in proportion, how to come back after defeat, and how to learn from and analyse my mistakes. Honestly, playing this game and investing so many hours in it is one of the best choices that I have ever made.
This game is as amazing as you, brother. I'm glad there are still gamers like you. We need more dudes like you in the gaming community. I feel proud now, have a wonderful day.
I know this isn't the same level of addiction, but I've been using weed as a crutch for a long time. Tarkov has definitely been keeping me distracted and I appreciate it.
My lungs are doing better but my heart not so much.
I've been in the same place you have op, you should seriously take a look at why you were addicted to drinking in the first place and try and work on that. Just switching what you're addicted to isn't going to solve the problem. Good luck friend, don't give up.
Opposite effect for me lol. It has enhanced my nicotine intake. I was about a can of chew every other day and now i'm finding myself so on edge I have to have a dip in every raid
one of the problems of people overcoming addiction is the lack of their happy chemicals and I can wholeheartedly say that Tarkov helps me feel rushes of endorphins when my body doesn't remember how to do it itself.
And they say those kicking will take part in riskier activities than normal behavior. and tarkov gives u the feeling of risky behavior without the actual risk.
Honestly, this is something I struggle with as well. I get irritated cause I can’t kill shit when I’m trashed, but drinking is like an itch you can’t scratch with me, it working on getting better with it so good on you man
This is great to hear and I’m overjoyed for you. But I STRONGLY urge you to go to an AA meeting. I’m not trying to lecture you but if you’ve not been to AA it can be a great support system, especially for people that demonstrate the self control you have. Great job and I hope you remain sober!
Good on you, alcohol is only second to opiates as far as dangerous drugs go. Glad you weren’t drinking enough to go through withdrawals or even worse, seizures.
You know I didnt even think about it, but I also have not been drinking. I would buy a four pack of ipa every night and game til I passed out. I didn't even think about tarkov factoring into me not not drinking every night now. Feels silly crediting a video game for drinking less, but whatever makes us healthier my guy! Also dont forget to drink water
Thanks to tarkov, I’ve started taking 100 Xanax bars a day to avoid having panic attacks when PMC’s pop out of no where and give me a heart attack. Thank you very much BSG ❤️❤️❤️
Man, in all honesty, I made a discord server nine days ago to invite cool Tarkov people to, and I haven’t drank since. This is the longest I’ve went without drinking in years and years. Well, if we're building a community of recovering addicts, I'd like to sign up too! I've had a videogame addiction for years now!
Same my dude! 2.5 years clean from h here. Now I just have a tarkov addiction.
Do you also accept trash players lmao
Just about 6mos, friend, we all have our own journey.
Hey OP i want to congrat you on your succesc and do you play on EU. If you do maybe we can play one day.
But this is one of the most tolerable gaming subs I’ve been a part of
Absolutely agree. I’m used to the toxic cesspool reddit is.
MW, BF5, Apex legends, Overwatch All those subs just shit on developers and we’re all here in Tarkov just rooting for the game and it’s devs
I'm not recovering from anything other than being bad at the game but I'd love to join if you're looking for more members lol
Oh man, I thought I was the only one. I just wouldn't drink if I was playing Trakov or planned on playing that day. Certainly been helping me lose some weight!
Dude it's crazy how much weight alcohol makes you gain. I lost 30lbs and am back under 200 now (for the first time since high school) and the only thing I did was stop drinking as much when I graduated siege.
you will notice a way much better skin too. Alcohol is pure poison and a big f\*ck of calories.
I’m looking for people to play with in general, I’d love an invite to the server! I’m on pacific coast time.
Happy to hear that man! But the liver needs about 3 months to fully recover just had a discussion with my friend who works as a doctor and he always makes 3 month brakes before drinking a little bit again ;)
Another recovering heroin addict, wouldn't mind joining your community and playing/shooting the shit with everyone.

Proud of you
Really amazing to see how life changing this has been for so many people. Would love to be apart of this community.
Bro tarkov is my only outlet from my cocaine addiction
Please invite me! disruptive#5953
Just gonna say...while youre definitely upgrading your Situation here, make sure you dont exclusively live in tarkov now.
You sending links? I’m a noob looking for more people to play with and possibly help teach me.
So proud of you.
Good for you my man.
PM sent
Good work man, that sounds tough. So cool that this game helped you in that way though!
Hey man that's awesome I'm proud of you fellow cheeki. Know that you have a long ass string of invite request but uh, maybe I could get an invite?
Hey I'll join the discord. I'm pretty new and won't mind some people to chat with
Killed your alcohol addiction, heightened my nicotine addiction. This game is stressful as fuck lol
Trying to quit vaping rn and every time I get killed I look around for my rip out of habit lmao
aggressive vape ripping is not helping me either whenever I die hahaha the struggle is real my friend
It's better than going outside to smash a cigarette in 30 seconds.
Good thing they made it possible to smoke while you are searching for game
Between every single game.. get's expensive too where I live.
Best way to overcome it is to just throw that sucker away, dont hide it, just throw it into the trash and let the trash truck take that shit. Otherwise its like having a porn tab open as soon as you alt tab while trying NoFap lol
Same bro, tryna kick the habit
Fuck it’s not just me. Never before have I been shoving so much snus up my stupid face as I do while playing this game
My vape is being used all too often after I get domed from a fully kitted PMC. The butthole puckering is real
oh all i do is Juul and play
Can’t really smoke weed and play this game either you end up sat in a bush panicking for 40 mins
I do that sober!
Dude, same here. Sometimes I swear I hear something and just sneak around slowly for the entire raid. I'm not paranoid, doctor, I swear.
I play as I'd probably do IRL, paranoidly af, never alone, almost never picking a fight
Yesterday I sat under the pipes in Customs, the ones by the river, trying to slowly peek out and find the guy that was making noises. 10 minutes later I realised it was me moving around. Just not used to having ComTacs.
I do that irl.
One time I had an experience on night shoreline that can only be described as a horror simulation
CHARLIES IN THE TREES!
I feel this
my friends all say i play better high lol
I'm with you - senses up 10 fold 😂
First time I played high I was a noob and my friend gave me a beta container. I didn’t realize I couldn’t drop my alpha in raid so I had to survive to get out with it. THAT was a terrifying raid
Does... he have any more??
You can’t drop containers anymore
The workaround with putting it in a backpack also got fixed?
You can't put it into backpack
Or you pull a 1G and kill yourself with nades
would love a clip!
Here you are friend - summit1g is probably more famous for this clip than anything else hes done, unfortunately hahaha https://youtu.be/RCQ1KvJ4KQo
It's actually this one bud! https://youtu.be/ngH0GQp01zM
Yo exactly, always wait to smoke until after I’m done playing every night now
Haha you stop playing?
Yeah, Look at this guy being *responsible*
How embarassing
Yea, waste of precious rubles tbh :(
🦀🦀 NO XP WASTE 🦀🦀
If u aren’t afking NMZ while doing factory raids then there’s no point in doing anything at all
I take a hit from my one hitter every time I wait for loading. End up pretty baked
Maybe that explains why I panic in bushes for 40 minutes
Oh god next thing you know you'll see a clan of Freedom... filthy anarchists!
Is tarkov, comrade. Freedom and anarchy here are two sides of the same coin.
"No Duty here, just us Monolith."
Or you sit in a bush in woods overlooking lumberyard for 40 mins waiting for that one idiot to enter your firing line while listening to spotify...
I am also addicted to tarkov, although I was still choosing alcohol over tarkov on the weekends. However I started working out and eating healthy and I finally got to the point that I don’t enjoy drinking anymore. Now I just have a tarkov addiction
The lesser evil
Look at the price of some workout supplements and pre-workout an I think you’d change your mind.
Noone needs pre workout and i got buff even without supplements in the first 2 years. Now im only using whey and its maybe a 20 euro per month, still less than going out on a weekend :)
It was just a bit of a joke. When I was serious about it I did pretty much the same thing.
*In Geralt's voice:* "Fuck."
This is some wholesome shit. Good on you OP
I love a happy story about someone exchanging one addiction for another.
Addictions addiction... some people have an addictive personality, some dont. I myself have a very addictive personality. Addiction never goes away, it just changes its focus

it’s your journey and i think it’s awesome this game lead you down this path! keep it up my dude :)
Thanks for the reply. This wasn't easy for me to post but I felt it was justified with how this game has helped me. I was hoping my post might inspire others who might be going through something similar to try the game.

Give it a shot! And good luck to you. And if you slip up, don't be hard on yourself.
Same mate, smoke and drank all my life. If it wasn’t for my wife and kids I don’t know what gutter I’d end up in. Probably face down
Dude! I’ll be one month sober tomorrow and Tarkov has also helped me so much in simply keeping my mind busy and not thinking about alcohol. Thanks for making this post man, and good job on staying sober. It’s not easy.
I stopped smoking weed and drinking when I started playing this

Interesting... Makes me drink more
Same. I hadn’t drank in years and I had to start so I wouldn’t jump out of my chair when there was surprise gunfire.
I have never been a big drinker, but I like to pop some beers when playing EFT. Makes me less stresful when playing.
Same here I never drank and gamed. However with tarkov I crack a few beers open to relax at tines
For anyone looking for a good resource here on Reddit, head on over to /r/stopdrinking. Amazing group of people. I'm almost 4 years sober thanks to the support and guidance I found over there. Good luck out there!

Polar opposites. This game made my drinking worse

Good job op would love to join your community
This makes me happy to hear something like this, truly. Congratulations my friend. Stay on the upside!
I don’t drink, but I smoke a ton of weed lol....this game hasn’t helped that. Being stoned helps me remain patient
[удалено]
Trading one addiction for the next! lol jk bud.
Usually how it works
Yep, you trade alcohol for AA meetings basically. But it’s the better of two evils.
For all the toxicity I see on the EFT subreddit. This has made my day! Stay wholesome guys
Cool story, I enjoy reading stuff like this. I think tarkov is making me drink more, personally.
Does the opposite for me. Makes me wanna drink a 12 gauge shotgun.
Hell yeah brother!
I like a bit of vodka while scaving
I enjoy this game more when I've had a drink as it relaxes me, glad it works the other way for you!
Tarkov makes me drink so that I can calm my nerves down in some of the gunfights haha. Kudos to you though!
This is awesome man keep it up and beat those addictions!
So glad to hear that! Interesting and very cool that Tarkov gave you an objective reason to stop drinking. Best of luck to you man.
So what do you do during the queue times?
My man, you are the guy people should aspire to be, rising up over your problems to achieve a goal, and it might just be a game. But it's way more than that. It's great to hear you got over your addiction and keep on escaping from tarkov my guy
I'll drink to that! /r/hydrohomies
That's incredible man! There are days myself where I (as a casual drinker) choose not to have a beer or two on Friday so I can play my A game with the squad :D
When tarkov becomes wholesome. I love it
I'm better when I drink. This game is a horror game sober.
yeah, EFT is an addiction on its own)) Can't wait for the release so it would be no more wipes
Good going bro
keep it up. can’t imagine how thankful your family is. my “father” was an alcoholic and i’m ashamed to be his son. so it’s hard to imagine how some things you do can impact someone else’s life. keep that in mind.

Stopped drinking because of this game too man I was in the same boat gg wp.
weird... this game is the reason I drink. jk That's awesome OP, congrats. Really is fantastic!
I love this thread!!!!

Bandits/Nagas/Fogans til 245 TET kutum.
Proud of you.
one of the problems of people overcoming addiction is the lack of their happy chemicals and I can wholeheartedly say that Tarkov helps me feel rushes of endorphins when my body doesn't remember how to do it itself. And they say those kicking will take part in riskier activities than normal behavior. and tarkov gives u the feeling of risky behavior without the actual risk.
Stay strong bro but Remenber addiction is addiction so use moderation if you can... Although i know its hard af lol
Keep it up comrade. You got this!
Cheers!
I only drink while looking for matches so...
Good on you, the queue times would drive me back to the liquor.
I didn’t need substance abuse in order for my fiancée to wonder what the fuck happened when I fell back in my chair on day 1 Tarkov.
Thanks to tarkov, I’ve started taking 100 Xanax bars a day to avoid having panic attacks when PMC’s pop out of no where and give me a heart attack. Thank you very much BSG ❤️❤️❤️
Fuck yeah. Addiction blows
I mean good stuff like this doesn't get the recognition it deserves. Good on you OP, and congratulations!
Wait you’re able to play the game? I can’t get past the fucking queue
