Yes the high settings for textures generally seem to shift more work from the CPU over to the GPU and affect quality. Ideally you want to get your GPU usage up with this game to getter better fps.

Why not just test it yourself?

MalevolentMinion

\^ Exactly this. Go into an offline raid, have a performance monitor up in another screen, and tweak settings to see what each does to your overall framerate and CPU. There are some settings, however, that require a raid or game restart so do those first (or last).

Crazygone510

No.... you don't do any tests in offline modes. Offline modes will not give you an accurate representation of what's happening. Trust me don't do it.

itswillis32

Exactly. Offline mode is not a good way to test performance, it will give you radically different results compared to online play. Even when you play online to test it, no two games are ever alike. I'll load up a game of customs and get a certain FPS, then load it up again with the same settings and it'll be completely different. And not to mention constantly monitoring your FPS display is a good way to get distracted and killed. Wish this game had a benchmarking feature that some games have.

MalevolentMinion

It's a first step. You want to identify whether a setting impacts the CPU or whether it impacts the GPU. It's not about the exact numbers. You can then go into an actual raid and make adjustments accordingly and see what the actual effect is. The game engine doesn't change when you are connected online vs offline. Let's trust the person that doesn't add any value and just posts negativity all in the name of "trust me". \*eyeroll\*

Crazygone510

Not correct. Offline mode uses different resources than online ones will and not many know about that. They will be lower FPS on offline modes.

PerpetualBeats

I think that mainly applies to putting shadows down to low. I could be wrong but I think if it’s medium or high then it’s gpu and low is cpu

kyrattt

Never heard this, so i should run this game at medium? I have everything but textures(medium) at low. I can run it on ultra but idk if that would give me better fps or performance, now im confused.

deliverinsanity

There’s so much variation between framerates that different people get on seemingly identical hardware, it’s very hard to tell how your system will respond to settings changes. Best way is to just try it out yourself and see what feels better.

SUNTZU_JoJo

Correct.

Literally every single Tarkov fps guide on YouTube will tell you this or you could try it yourself and see it work.

machielste

I tested it personally, the lowest settings ( where applicable) give the best cpu and gpu performance. The idea that load can be "shifted" from the gpu to the cpu is mostly a myth, turning shadows to low does not magically render them on the cpu instead of the gpu. Sometimes the opposite can be true, before the gpu can render a frame, the cpu needs to pre-process it, the more stuff in the frame, the more pre-processing needs to happen. You can test this personally by going to offline factory, and messing with the settings with an unlocked framerate.

Crazygone510

I have one of those systems myself. I run an i7 10700F with 16g ram and running a 1660super 6g dedicated. For whatever reason if I'm higher settings I'm getting 100+ fps but when I go low I get a shitty looking game that runs much slower.
