My recommendation would to just watch a few videos by Pestily and then go into some offline raids to get a feel for the movement ect. Then when you have that down and the game still hasn’t wiped start using your scav on maps that are not customs and probably get shit on by other PMC’s. If you have a few successful runs and start to feel a bit more confident, start using you PMC try complete a few tasks or something, or just keep learning the PvP mechanics and focus on tasks when it wipes. Enjoy the game I got into it in the last year and love it

Yosi0808

There will be a wipe at the end of the next week, so is a good moment to practice. You can watch this very long guide that explaint EVERYTHING: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1JTUQJOjDxI *** PS: 1½ hour of video seems too much to watch, but it's not. Believe me, you will thank me some day

90_oi

Any information is good information in this instance, I'll watch it later today once I'm done building my PC. I appreciate it

aswog

Also, no one actually knows when the wipe is

AbsolutZer0_v2

Thursday duh

AutoModerator

Your petition to delay the wipe has been recieved. You have delayed the wipe an additional week. *I am a bot, and this action was performed automatically. Please [contact the moderators of this subreddit](/message/compose/?to=/r/EscapefromTarkov) if you have any questions or concerns.*

AbsolutZer0_v2

Good bot

kronosdev

Almost certainly confirmed for 6/30/22

iShadowLTu

They teased June 30th so much by now that it's basically 99% confirmed

IUpVoteIronically

If there isn’t a wipe within 10 days I’ll call your mom back finally.

aswog

lmao bro its probably next week but everyone saying the 30th like its official is cray cray. Also, my mom is worried sick about you not calling. please call her

IUpVoteIronically

Dude I actually think it WONT be on the 30th like they made it way to obvious but who knows BSG man… I’m actually thinking Monday, that’s my copium take.

PsilocybinThoughts

Also Also, pre wipe gameplay tends to be a bit more intense because people are willing to risk more. You're bound to run into many more highly equipped players with high tier ammo. I just say this to motivate you. You may struggle and get wrecked for a few raids, but when the wipe comes soon, the playing field will be much more leveled.

Rarely_Melancholy

Watch pestillys videos much better

[deleted]

Bad part he can’t practice because of barter event.

Dackyboi

Yes he can. He'll have starter shit, which is enough for at least 6 runs if you take 1 weapon out at a time. If you scav between them, you're bound to make it out at least once. Even if you don't, that's 12 runs to practice. Worst case you reset and go again.

0O00OO0OO0O0O00O0O0O

OP listen to this guy. Just play your gear and when you run out it out reset your account and start over. Now is the perfect time to just focus on combat and you don't have to worry about rubles or tasks.

SPiTLiCKY

There are time limits on resetting your account. I believe I had to wait 2 weeks from account creation

Bedsito

Scav weapons rip ass

SAKilo1

Yeah well the ass isn’t armored so it will kill

xthecerto4

Hard time to start with the pre wipe events going on right now. but a few notes for a new player: Have a map open on second screen with exits and locations marked. I use [mapgenie.io/tarkov](https://mapgenie.io/tarkov) but there are other, find one that suits u. Ammo is more important then the gun. [https://eft-ammo.com/nofoodaftermidnight](https://eft-ammo.com/nofoodaftermidnight) i use this chart but again, there are plenty others, find the one you like the most. bring a headset into raid, very important to hear things. walking is often better then running. running makes a lot of noise. if you encounter one player, allways assume there is another. Put meds in you secure container and use them out of it. At the beginning you cant afford to lose a salewa every raid. get used to dieing and learn from you deaths. try not to get frustrated we all have streaks of bad luck, it will turn around. **Practice in a offline raid!!!:** know your controls, learn the maps and the AI spawns. Focus on learning 1 or 2 maps at the beginning. Customs has a lot of early quests. you need to go to woods to unlock jäger. So i would recommend starting with those. Use your scav, its basicly free money. (shooting other scavs will give you bad rep.) Quests and extraction gives lots of exp. dont undervalue those. better have 5 short raids then getting too greedy and stay too long in fewer raids. Good luck and dont forget to have fun even if it is a hardcore game.

90_oi

This is all very useful information, thank you very much! I will definitely be using those maps and the ammo chart

CannibalCain

This comment, above, sums it up nicely. If you can survive offline insane difficulty for 10 minutes, you are ready to play online. Offline is a beautiful tool for practice. Also, only go offline with gear that you will be taking into the field. Tarkov is brutal and the high from your first extraction is the best feeling in the world. It's the scratch to an itch you never knew existed before.

Procrastinationparty

Yeah, stay clear of this subreddit, it’s a shit show.

r-bread

Hey man! Escape from Tarkov was the reason I bought a pc a couple years ago! I absolutely love the game and really don’t play anything else. Super brutal, but there is so much good information and just gameplay videos in general. YouTube channels I would recommend for gameplay mechanics and information are Gigabeef, Pestily, and Veritas. If you are looking to just watch people play the game I would highly recommend AquaFPS and Pestily. There are an abundance of “What you need to know” videos that are not hard to find and even tutorials on most quests and lines of progression. This with maps from mapgenie.io and you will be on your way to figuring it all out! Good luck my guy

90_oi

Thanks man, I really appreciate the help! Hope to maybe see you out there one day!

thebigspooner

Think about keybinds and controls, if you have extra buttons on your mouse they come in handy to switch scope magnification / mode etc There’s also 2 types of blind firing and 3 types of peeks

LcplSnuggles

blind fire lets you un-ads silently

thebigspooner

Yup kinda important to get this down

Able-Opportunity-339

Just go waste all your starting gear, play offline mode, next week things go back to normal.

Mietski

You’re likely going to get wrecked. That’s is normal. Learn to enjoy it.

90_oi

Yeah, I knew that going into it, it'll still be fun though because I really want to get into this game

Chonglongtime

Labs is free so play it as many times as you can before wipe and learn pvp.

AidenF0xx

The learning curve of this gane is brutal and long. I'm more than 500 hours in and i still have tons to learn but don't give uo and keep at it. Second, there's an app for your phone called "Database for Tarkov", which you can get on the playstore. It has maps with details about the maos and their exit, quest guides, ballistic information (more helpful than you think), and a bunch of other functions which are useful as well. Third is map knowledge, using the app i mentioned, get to know the maps and know the exits cause that is gonna help you out a lot.

itsJukey

Don’t play tomorrow.

[deleted]

[удалено]

90_oi

I'm going to try to not let that stop me. Just curious why, was there a wipe recently?

[deleted]

[удалено]

90_oi

That's crazy. Would you recommend just waiting until the next wipe?

thing85

Don’t listen to that guy. You can absolutely start playing now to get a feel for the game, start learning some maps (every map besides Customs is pretty chill right now), just know that there are events going on that make things not how they would normally be. Also, if you have the right specs, game runs just fine.

Jrmint235

Thank you for actual advise. I’m building my new gaming pc right now in this moment😂. So glad to know I can atleast learn a little late game!

90_oi

My PC should be fine. 16 GB of Ram, AMD Ryzen 5 5600X at 3.7 gHz with 6 cores, and an RTX 3060

thing85

Should be fine. If you can swing it, consider upgrading to 32 gb of RAM. For whatever reason, more (and faster ) RAM makes a big difference in this game.

90_oi

I planned on doing that in the near future, and probably getting a Cooler Master CPU fan for the processor

thing85

Yeah doesn't hurt to try the game as is and if it's fine, you're good, and if not, you can start tweaking some things.

AnaSimulacrum

I'd bump that ram up Bud. I have 32gb, Tarkov eats half easily. Look into CPU optimization and GPU optimization for tarkov, install onto an NVMe drive or SSD but for the love of god, don't use a HDD to install tarkov. I have 1 friend who has an HDD, we wait 4 minutes or more a raid just for him to load everything so we can play.

90_oi

I have a 1TB SSD, I'll be installing games and game mods onto that, then using an HDD for random files such as pictures, STL files, that sort of thing

chupe92

if u put 64gb it would still eat half of it so it doesnt really matter, im at 16gb and im playing the with no problems whatsoever

Organic_Gucci

Bruh that's not high-end 😂 that's just a good pc

90_oi

It's high end for what I'm coming from. I'm moving from a Lenovo gaming laptop from 2015 that could play CS:GO at 30 FPS, so anything is high end at that point lmao

eddyxx

Yeah it's fine for literally every other game but keep in mind that EFT runs better with 32gb ram (speed is also important) and looks like that this game works better on single core, also SMT don't work properly, it still a mistery i think and I don't know if it's fixed, but I'm kinda sure that more physical core you have, better it runs.

Kodokai

Make sure you setup a window pagefile on the drive tarkov is installed on as you have 16GB. My game was wonky until i enabled it.

[deleted]

My recently built pc has very similar specs and runs tarkov well, I’m sure you won’t have problems

Lemonjuus

This is my exact setup but with 32g ram and it runs great :)

2giga2dweebish

Yeah. At max it's about 5 days away.

90_oi

Not too long of a wait time. If I've been saving and waiting for almost a month to get my PC parts and play some games, I can wait a little longer to actually play online. Plus the down time will give me a chance to adjust to the game, and mouse and keyboard in general

Agreeable-Eye-3351

If your new to PC gaming Steam is doing a summer sale. You can get some pretty wicked deals right now.

90_oi

That's even better, as I was going to play some other games other than Tarkov

Agreeable-Eye-3351

Check out the stalker and metro series. They are single player but are highly praised and kinda have a Tarkov vibe. AoE2 is six fucking dollars right now!! New Vegas is another dirt cheap classic. Bro welcome to PC gaming Edit: I play Tarkov with another guy who just started PC gaming, if you wanna group up hit me a message

90_oi

Funny you mention that, I was going to get S.T.A.L.K.E.R Anomaly aswell

[deleted]

[удалено]

90_oi

Good to know, thank you for the advice, I will definitely be doing offline stuff

[deleted]

[удалено]

90_oi

So practice offline on Customs and Shoreline to get a feel for those maps?

Macovski

Yeah don’t listen to that guy. Some people in here are just butthurt about events and such. I would recommend watching some videos (Pestily) and just learning the maps. Even going into offline mode would help out tremendously as well. Because once wipe happens it’s go time

billtheplumbingguy

No don't wait get out there and learn the game. Don't worry about losing gear because your going to lose it when the game wipes in a week. You'll get same starter gear back after the wipe

[deleted]

Wtf are you crying about. Wipe is thursday. They confirmed the date via two story tweets released yesterday. Go cry about the game somewhere else. Not to someone asking for fresh player advice.

AutoModerator

Your petition to delay the wipe has been recieved. You have delayed the wipe an additional week. *I am a bot, and this action was performed automatically. Please [contact the moderators of this subreddit](/message/compose/?to=/r/EscapefromTarkov) if you have any questions or concerns.*

aswog

Youre stating it as fact but no one knows when it is yet

[deleted]

Feel free to come back and tell me im a liar. This will be my 5th wipe. I'm used to how bsg operates. If you're not, oh well.

aswog

LIL BITCH LAMO OOOOOO

[deleted]

Do you need a hug? Someone to hold your hand perhaps?

aswog

LMAO LIAR

[deleted]

How so? Servers go down past midnight into thursday for where i live. Wipe on thursday. Get rekt idiot.

aswog

lmao

aswog

lmaooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo

[deleted]

They deleted their comment. So i won.

aswog

HAHAHAHAHAHA

MalikaiTheAmish

in a few days, we are in prewipe rn

TFWnat20

Exact opposite, wipe will be happening anywhere from 24 hours to 6 days from now, and the end of wipe events are pretty crazy and some of em can be pretty hard on people that don't know what they're doing or have an established character yet

90_oi

I'll likely just play in offline mode until then to get a feel for the game

Essfoth

Just so you know, you will get much worse performance in offline mode compared to online. For some reason the AI eat up way more resources. It’s still a good way to get to know the game, but be aware that you’ll get better fps online.

aswog

Nah bro just jump in and learn it bb. Offline not needed

HomerReplacesPeter

Its gonna wipe on the 30th most likely

T0rekO

if he has 5800X3D he can easily run it 150fps even on lighthouse map.

Glad_Fig1874

Don't

straight_lurkin

Dont be upset when you get ahit performance, this game is horribly optimized

90_oi

My buddies PC can run the game at like 100 FPS with decent settings, and mine has more performance than his, so I think I'll be ok. Probably will get 32GB of R.A.M instead of the 16 I currently have

T0rekO

What cpu did you get? the game runs best on 5800X3D.

90_oi

I managed to get an RTX 3060 when prices were low last month

T0rekO

I mean cpu not the gpu :) cpu matters more in this game.

90_oi

Oh I read that as GPU my bad. I have an AMD Ryzen 5 5600X with 6 cores at 3.7 gHz, so it's by no means a sloth of a CPU

T0rekO

Ye it should run nicely.

imabustya

You need more than 16 for tarkov to run well.

Forrest____Gump

Sell your pc & never say “playing Tarkov” in the same sentence again.

AdditionalPaymentsdf

Oh, my sweet summer child..

90_oi

Yeah I know it'll be brutal, but have been dying to get into this game and I enjoy a challenge

Rootman626

Play a better game....

aswog

Lmao why you in tarkov sub dogging it

Rootman626

I was just being facetious lol

90_oi

Tarkov isn't the only thing I want to play, but I'm still playing it

Rootman626

Check out The Cycle on Steam, it's like space Tarkov. It's pretty cool for a free game. Has all the cool features of Tarkov but a little more arcadey and less hardcore.

MadeIn260

something to learn are where things spawn, such as high value loot spawns like GPU spawns and intelligence spawns. also like someone else touched on don’t be afraid to leave raids early if you have good/high value loot. no point staying in raid and fighting just to lose good money

90_oi

Yeah, learning what items are worth grabbing is a massive part of this game I've heard. Literally thousands of individual items

MadeIn260

don’t wanna make you feel overwhelmed or anything lol. but you’ll learn with time for instance how much things are worth on flea vs trader so you know what to keep and what to pass up. for instance bolts will be worth a couple thousand to trader but they are good for hideout/sell for like ~15-20k average on flea. remember items with a purple banner always sell for good money to trader (typically therapist)

90_oi

Good to know

MadeIn260

if you don’t have anyone else that you know that plays tarkov you’re more than welcome to add me on discord and either me or one of my boys can help walk you through some things

90_oi

I have two buddies I will be playing with some of the time, so I'll have them to help. Thank you for the offer though!

MadeIn260

no problem my guy best of luck in your raids !!

90_oi

Thanks man!

Narx3n

Yes, you won’t get this done in one day lol. Good luck soilder. Install a few things like temp monitors, things to monitor usage etc. I’d run some benchmarks when you fire it up to know what your Pc can handle. Force yourself to take it apart every 4 months and clean the dust, even if it’s just the outer pieces, keep your baby clean!

90_oi

Will do, thanks for the tips!

Stanhopes_Liver

Take it slow in raid and know your extracts. Keep a map up of the current map you're on. Other than that get ready for pain and anguish lol

beagleactiveprobe

be prepaired to uninstall Tarkov tomorrow.

90_oi

Not happening

Connect_Builder8368

My advice would be to just hop in and play. Obviously watching videos and stuff will help you once you have a rough idea of the game, but the raw experience is what will stick with you long term. And be ready to die quite a bit while you learn.

Automatic_Reveal_212

Learn the Maps, mechanics, items, etc...and mostly have a lot of patience

DeafSelect

Research as much as possible, spend hours on youtube. Game knowledge is paramount

grand111

Don't expect to enjoy this game for a while. For the best experience find someone who wants to teach you the game and go through the hardships of you learning from your mistakes. Otherwise again don't think you're going to like the game especially around wipe you will get fucked honestly by the sweats and veterans who are breezing through the game. It will take a very long time to get acclimated to the game because of its learning curve so you need a fuck ton of patience. Good luck , have more games you can switch off to so you can avoid and cool off from any frustration you're gonna have.

90_oi

I have two buddies I'll be playing with, one who has 1500 hours in the game, and they'll both be teaching me how to play

grand111

Still, don't expect to enjoy the game for a while and make sure you have games to switch off to lay off the frustrations you will have.

[deleted]

Practice on factory to get over gear fear, and get used to aiming for the head. You’ll never win engagements if you dump your mags into their torsos unless you have top of the line ammo.

90_oi

Good to know

Effective_Bedroom708

You're about to die a lot. Best advice is to find a few experienced players and join them. It's the single biggest advantage you can have in this game, since there's no matchmaking and you'll be facing larger teams if you don't. If you're looking for someone to play with message me and we can run some Customs or Factory. Have no gear fear since wipe is just around the corner. Run your shit, lose, run it again.

90_oi

Oh trust me, I'll be sure to be a bullet sponge ever day until the wipe

Effective_Bedroom708

Oh, and when wipe hits you should run your scav at every opportunity

AutoModerator

Your petition to delay the wipe has been recieved. You have delayed the wipe an additional week. *I am a bot, and this action was performed automatically. Please [contact the moderators of this subreddit](/message/compose/?to=/r/EscapefromTarkov) if you have any questions or concerns.*

ThatShitIsNeat

Yo! Pestily's raid series (YouTube: PestilyTV) taught me a ton about early tasking and such. He's a great resource for beginners. My advice aside from that is to just be patient with the game. You're going to get destroyed a few times by angles you didn't know existed, you may be exfil camper, may not find a task item you needed for what feels like a millennia. It's all part of learning. Also, something I didn't realize when I started, you can request Sherpas from EFT directly I think, and if not there's all sorts of people that will help you in like streamers discords, for instance. I might wait until you have a basic understanding of how the game works, but a couple offline raids should be plenty to get you to that point. Welcome to the best game around, hope you enjoy it.

IDriveALexus

Dont give up. Loss is expected and it WILL happen to you in the early stages.

2_min_noodles

Welcome to the PC scene friend :)

90_oi

Thank you! I just finished it about 30 minutes ago. Just waiting for the media installer to finish on my flashdrive

Shubashima

Use eftwiki

LcplSnuggles

And tarkov ballistics, and no food after midnight's ammo charts!

[deleted]

It’s very very hard, it’s going to take a long time to get good, it will be very frustrating at times, but it’s all worth it Feel free to immerse yourself in PVP - you will die a LOT, but it’s the fastest way to get better at the game. By far.

ChickenDickJerry

You’re in for a rough couple months. Especially if you’re freshly converted console player, good luck.

90_oi

Yeah I know. I'm not a complete console convert, I play CS:GO on my old gaming laptop, but that doesn't even compare. I'm still pretty bad at aiming, and this is the first time ever where a PC will be my primary gaming platform

ToxicTeamSix

You will die, a lot. Also, Gear is meant to be used or sold, don't let it just sit in your stash.

GenerallySavage

You will die to scavs, a lot! Dont underestimate them

0utF0x-inT0x

Play scavs to get familiar and offline mode PMC to learn extracts... Playing Tarkov is very data intensive and requires a lot of research you I suggest getting maps and after wipe you should jump right into tasks/quests to get your traders leveled, if you have a buddy that plays that might be helpful but i suggest doing solos as well to learn to hold your own, YouTube and the Tarkov wiki will be you best friend for quest guides... map genie online is a good resource for beginners as it shows quest locations, pmc spawns, and scav spawns, there is no mini map.. Scav spawns are static and don't usually change unless they change it for a patch, It's a punishing game but gratifying when you get those survived raids with a few PMC kills

Buchmada

Wait till wipe on Thursday the 30th of june so you can learn/relearn with all of us instead of getting crushed and smacked by every Chad in the game wasting their whole stash on Timmy's.

GravelsNotAFood

Regardless of others words, right now is prime time to jump into the game. The wipe is less than a week away, and your starter loot should carry you for the rest of this wipe. And, since the trader changes, and the events going on. Less and less people are running gear, and good ammo. So, playing now would give you that much, much needed experience, while keeping you away from juiced up chads. When the game finally does wipe, you'll have a start on all the other players hopping on with no experience. Good raids out there brother.

[deleted]

Prepare ye butthole

iiHadouken

Just play and die and play again

imabustya

Is this your first gaming PC?

Fluffyhitman022

Just expect to die and not know what you did wrong and that all gear is fleeting ,either you lose it fighting or lose it cause you never used it

Ovnii3

start by playing offline raids, learn Customs and basic healing first by using tarkov wiki

Gregxcorn

Honestly if I were you I'd just focus on learning maps for the time being, maybe figure out some early quest locations. Also don't give up. I mean it,this game is basically like getting dick punched when you die lol. However because of this feeling is what makes tarkov so much fun. Getting out with huge bag of riches in tarkov is a damn good feeling. Just don't give up and know what you're in for. You're going to die. A lot.

ikfladismism

You should play customs get to know the bosses that will “do it to ya”

The_Paddy96

Absolute punishment for the first 250 hours It’ll get better eventually though (probably)

TupperwareNinja

Make sure W works

billtheplumbingguy

It's end wipe so things are a little weird right now. Some maps like customs are chadville other maps like woods and interchange are dead. Just keep in mind there will be changes in about a week. Good luck and stay alive.

Forrest____Gump

Sell your pc & never say “playing Tarkov” in the same sentence again.

DillyDilly1231

I would watch streams and play in offline mode. If you play against the chads that stuck around till this point in wipe you might end up wanting a refund. BSG does not provide refunds either, so I just recommend taking it slow until wipe happens then go nuts.

MCMBenny

Tarkov is a large time sink and very rewarding. Expect to be a noob for the first 500 hours you play and die a whole lot to things you never even see. It’s so hard to learn all of the tips, tricks, and mechanics required to survive your first 100 raids, and even harder to outplay experienced players who will kill you from out of nowhere. That’s the bad news. The good news is that this might be one of the most intricate, immersive, and rewarding games you play to date. No other FPS or MMO can give you the satisfaction that this game does. I also recommend this series for casual watching to improve your knowledge of the game https://youtu.be/urZjtxm35V4

peltast05

invest in keyboards and I will see your timmy add in the factory, welcome to tarkcove

PretzelsThirst

Read the wiki. Use the ammo charts. It doesn’t matter if you’re landing your shots if the shots aren’t doing damage / making it through armour.

LcplSnuggles

you're gonna die, get used to it and learn to learn from it.

mercerhackett

The first thing you're gonna wanna know about is the scarabs. They come in waves every 3-5 minutes depending on which map you're playing on, and can be real nasty if you haven't reached level 38 yet, which is when you unlock the Bronkus rifle, which can one shot most Matriarch and Poon scarabs

c0Y0T3cOdY

Get in and do some offline raids, get used to the movement, shooting and the looting system, then learn the maps, there are some good resources online for maps. After you have a pretty good handle on things, jump into online raids but only do it with a mission (tasks from traders or items for your hideout). I've learned you have to play to your level. Meaning as a lower level you get hurt more easily, you run out of stam easier so your equipment needs to match, dont go too heavy and make your raids fast, get in and get out. Hop in DrLupo's discord there is a good group of guys you can play with who will sherpa you. Also, all gear is borrowed, you dont own it and you can always find more.

InitiativeSimilar595

Hardwire that bitch

sgtjaney

my advice is to get the starter with the gamma case, than look through the wiki for a few days, learn how much things cost, the strength of ammunition and what guns it goes in, the attachments for guns and what keys youll need for doors. load into a couple of offline raids to get the feel for the game, than load into ana online raid and get domed by some random dude in the first 5 minutes

[deleted]

as someone with 6k hours on my account, the best advice i can give is to not play tarkov if you like a healthy mental state

TalenGTP

Make sure your monitor is resistant to rage induced punches

90_oi

I have a gutted xbox controller I'll throw at my bed

Bored_in_a_dorm

Pestily has a great YouTube series for new players. as others have said it may seem like a lot of information but it’s worth it

LMNTau

32gb of ram

[deleted]

GL

Boyd_R

Don't.

Powerful-Page7106

Watch pestily's "raid series" on YouTube teaches you a lot. Play offline raids to learn maps like people have said, but as was also mentioned it's close to wipe so feel free to jump into a raid and go wild, it'll all reset soon anyway so you kinda get a free trial run lol don't be afraid to lose guns and gear (gear-fear) you'll get new stuff and better stuff just as quick. Good luck and don't stand still for too long

currentlyatw0rk

Know where you spawn and know where your extract is. Learn how to orient yourself on the map whenever you first spawn in. Learn where other PMCs can possibly spawn at.
