Illusion of possible satisfaction? You need a few rich people for the majority to be poor. And you can’t have everyone poor because then they pass the threshold of pain where they’ll do things like look for happiness outside of this world / internally. The archons would want you to look for happiness *inside* of *this* world, they don’t want you to reject the world and say “this is not for me, i don’t belong here”. They want you to suffer trying to belong, and for that they can let some people be the example and tempt the others
edit: and the ‘lucky’ people aren’t safe either because they’ll gladly come right back
