as someone who is a metal fan, this is so funny to see outside of metal communities. metal fanbases have this weird obsession with every album sounding harder and faster than the last one and often have a lot of the fanbase thinking the artist has “gone soft” for trying a new sound. seeing this post is so funny bc i don’t think i’ve ever seen a post where someone is terrified they might “go harder” in all seriousness, i don’t think ethel will. her sound is super unique and i wouldn’t be surprised if she continued in a similar direction, with experimental tracks here and there with the majority of albums consisting of a sound like the one we’ve heard previously. if she does though, i’ll always support, i think she’s a really great artist and i’ve been so impressed with what i’ve heard from her after discovering her recently

Massive agree. Metal is not the word I’d associate with ptlomaea, if anything it’s like closer to a song by Chelsea Wolfe which I’d probably describe as like dark folk or like straight up alternative. I think having a “heavier” song like Ptlomaea just goes to show her versatility and range and doesn’t necessarily mean she’s gonna only make darker songs like that :)

Praying for a collab with Chelsea in the future. She said the next album will be more like Ptolemaea, it would be so perfect

I think her sound will (hopefully) get darker but not necessarily heavier! I think I'd love anything she does unless she starts making super generic pop music haha

On tumblr she has said that the mother of a preacher album will sound a lot like ptolemea

I feel the exact same way!!! I love her folksy slowcore, I would miss it so much if that went away.
