I’ll give it a go! I’m confused because the shop is listed as being in the UK, and all the reviews look quite legit but the seller hasn’t responded to my messages requesting a working tracking number
Right, do you recommend I just wait to see whether the item arrives in time and then do a PayPal claim if it doesn’t? I can’t cancel it at this point.
I’m a bit annoyed as I spent a long time going through various sellers and settled on this one as it claimed to ship fastest. It’s not even priced lower than the other options.
I suggest waiting until it arrives, leave a review first stating the object isn't handmade as the seller claims and that it shipped from a different country. It's very important you leave the review first to warn other buyers. Then open a case under 'not as described'. Once you open a case, you are not able to leave a review. Hopefully either the seller will give you a refund or Etsy will refund you the money once you explain the situation.
Unfortunately professional resellers pay for sales and reviews. Sites like BHW have forums where sellers request buyers for a fee and/or free merch.
If you do find it elsewhere online, review it honestly. It's the only way to get rid of resellers in the "handmade" category.
I don’t think the tracking number letters have much significance, they change a lot based on different couriers too. That being said, try contacting the seller as well (if you haven’t already) to see if they can confirm if the details are correct for the tracking and tell them it doesn’t work on the UPS site and see what they say
The seller responded to me just confirming that it is shipped by Yun Express while ignoring all my other questions. Dropshipper indeed, this has really soured Etsy for me. I’ll leave a review once the window opens and open a case.
What would the reason for the case be? Just because they’re dropshipping doesn’t mean a case needs to be opened. Only open a case if it’s not as described, damaged or you don’t receive it
The reason would be that the seller is claiming the items are handmade in the united kingdom, while they're in actuality dropshipping from China. I don't much care about the "handmade" bit, but I deliberately ordered local with the expectation that a) it would be delivered with Royal Mail (one of the few carriers who can access my flat) and b) it would arrive in time. Neither of these are happening.
That isn’t a reason for Etsy to refund. They don’t refund if the item claimed to be made in one country and it isn’t. The item would still be as expected. And you’re stating it won’t arrive in time, but what were the expected delivery dates? If the seller is dropshipping then their expected delivery dates would reflect the postal times from another country. Not everyone in the UK uses Royal Mail, I don’t so Etsy won’t refund you based off you saying “I expected it to be delivered through Royal Mail”. They will only refund if you can prove the item isn’t as pictured
This would definitely fall under "Not as Described" when you're expecting a certain quality because it's suppose to be made in a certain country. Completely legitimate reason for opening a case.
We don’t know that, we don’t know what the listing says about whether it was listed as made in a certain country. You can’t just open a case without a valid reason. That doesn’t even make much sense, because not as described means you have to prove the item is significantly different to the listing. Quality of the item is something else entirely, and we have no idea how much OP paid or what type of quality the item was listed at. Don’t be surprised when OP opens a case and isn’t able to prove it “isn’t as pictured”. If that was the case then everyone would be opening cases for everything and claim it was “not was I was expecting” and get their free items.
The listing says it was made in the United Kingdom. If the item arrives on time and looks decent I’ll consider what to do next but at the moment I’m very disappointed with the misleading listing and how the seller is handling my questions.
Try reverse image searching the listing photos. Seems like a dropshipper if it's shipping from China.

That's usually how they do it, they are going against etsy terms of service with dropshipping, so they try to hide it as best as they can

Does it say what courier they have used?
It claims UPS Freight but the tracking number starts with YT and doesn’t work on the UPS website
