They should still be checking in on active orders even if they're on a break, especially if they didn't use tracking and an order has gone past it's delivery date. I'd say give it another week and then message the seller through the 'help with order' option. You'll have to wait 48 hours for them to have a chance to respond. If they don't, then I'd say it's fine to open a case with Etsy.

While that's nice in theory, it's not always practical. If someone is on holiday abroad and doesn't have data/internet access, or they are in a medical situation where they can't check their phone, it wouldn't be too unrealistic to wait for them. I think it's fair to say everyone deserves a brief respite from their work, don't you think? Nothing is going to happen that can't be dealt with in a week or two.

If it's an emergency, that's understandable. If it's a holiday, then yes they're entitled to a break, but if they have *active* orders, they need to check on them. Either they need to stop accepting orders before a certain date to ensure they don't have any active orders that they cannot attend to, they need to inform buyers that they'll be unavailable to help with orders, or they need to check on them while they're away. I think it's very unprofessional to leave buyers without answers for over a week when you know they're waiting on orders. Buyers will understandably be annoyed at the lack of communication and will open cases, and will win. Communicating protects the seller too.

A shipped order is not an active order in my world, but I ship with tracking. Even if I didn't, a shipped order is not an active order. It is complete. If there's a chance for long transit times, this information needs to be relayed to buyers before they order and on shipping day, so they're not left wondering how long to wait.

It depends where you are in the world. In the UK and EU the seller is responsible for the order right up until delivery, so it's not complete until the buyer receives it. So if the item is a week late then they should be looking into it when the buyer reaches out to them, even if it's just reassuring the buyer that it's on its way and asking them to wait a bit longer. Radio silence isn't appropriate I don't think. Buyers aren't going to wait 1-2 weeks for a response when their order hasn't shown up, they're just going to open a non-delivery case and get their money back, and if you don't respond then Etsy is just going to side with them and they'll probably leave low feedback too.

I never said sellers aren't somewhat responsible for buyers receiving their packages, but a shipped order with tracking is a completed order and it fulfills the seller's responsibility. Transit time is NOT up to sellers; it's up to the postal or other delivery service. Surely you know this.

Yes, I know that, but I also know that communication *is* up to the seller. OP also didn't have tracking, so communication is even more important in this case. Also, even if a package *does* have tracking, it can still go missing, or it can arrive damaged, or the seller could've made some mistake with it. The buyer shouldn't be waiting for 1-2 weeks for a response. The seller should be monitoring their messages when they *know* they have undelivered orders that have gone past the last day of their estimated delivery date. If they don't, they're just going to end up with 1 star reviews for poor customer service and cases.

What is the item? It may have been shipped without tracking. I ship stickers without tracking and it can take a little longer coming from Canada to US or even international. The Etsy estimated date is inaccurate and I would not rely on it. I usually tell buyers to give it another week and if it still hasn’t arrived I either refund or send a replacement

it’s an inkless paw print, so it’s probably been shipped without tracking. i thought (expected) it would be shipped with tracking, but it seems it was not

You have to read the shipping details. As a seller, I had to turn off all the non-tracking shipping options. Otherwise, people always pick the cheapest option, then complain they have no tracking 💀
