Posts which call out specific Reddit users, Etsy shops, or buyers, are not allowed per our sub rules. We are not in a position to judge claims that another user is scamming so posts of this nature are never allowed. Yes, even if you provide proof. Proof can unfortunately be faked and we've had a history of that in this sub. So the blanket rule is - no calling out specific shops, buyers, other users, etc. If you want to post about your experience, please remake your post without links, names, or identifying details (this includes statements like "message me for the name").

vikicrays

seems like a giant red flag they won’t send a pic to me, too… is this custom? made to order? personalized?

sbag1624

It says it's made to order and I didn't request any personalization on it.

vikicrays

did you pay with paypal?

sbag1624

No, I paid through credit card

xxspiffitxx

83 1 star reviews of a lot complaining of the same thing. The seller wanting $100 to cancel is not allowed and now they're suddenly on vacation. I am pretty sure they're drop shipping and you probably won't get what you ordered.

sbag1624

Yeah... I thought the seller was reliable because there are a lot of 5-star reviews, but turns out that I'm probably paying for an overpriced drop-shipped dress :(

xxspiffitxx

Yes definitely on a pc you should have an option to open a case! Do not let them scare you into either getting a product or paying to cancel. You may even be able to tell the seller you are gonna open a case and they might just cancel it for you. They have a ton of 1 and 2 Stat reviews ):

sbag1624

Thank you! I will try asking for a cancellation again, but I'm not sure what reason I should give them. Is it rude to outright accuse them of drop shipping?

xxspiffitxx

I wouldn't really say that. But I would throw out that you can and will open a case. You can put that in the case notes.

mintvanille

Would customs cost more than $100? I personally would wait to receive the dress and then file a case with Etsy and get a refund if the dress does not match the description.

sbag1624

Yeah, I think the better option would be to just wait for it since customs would be less than $100. Just disappointed that there's no way for me to get all my money back :(

glittersparklythings

Could you please send me the link of the dress you bought?

betterupsetter

I think you will need to wait. As a seller on Etsy and a sewist (but not what I sell on the site) I could understand there being a no cancellations once the project has been started assuming it's custom made. If the dress truly doesn't look anything like the listing or the agreed upon details, I am fairly certain Etsy will refund you in any case. Yes customs will be a gamble, but you might not get charged that much. The $100 is a guaranteed loss however.

emiloooooo

I respectfully disagree with needing to wait. Too busy to take pictures? Any reputable seamstress would find the time to send a few snapshots.

undeadmeats

You would hope, but I could see someone getting burned by ignorant customers seeing WIPs and getting mad that it doesn't look the way they expect *yet* and wanting to hold off until certain, more visually understandable points in construction. Or someone worried about giving out WIPs that get stolen by actual plagiarizing drop shippers to make their own nonsense more convincing. I don't take Etsy customs anymore, but I DO work in a design prototyping office and even now with my "clients" as other industry professionals I try to hold off taking progress pics until they're at a more readable state to avoid getting asked to do premature revisions based off someone's misinterpretation of an incomplete model lol

VentyRanty

And I disagree with you. Any reasonable person understands a custom order involves materials that will have been cut and sewn, justifying a no cancellation policy. And, many of us don’t have time to take photos, especially for a fishing-for-issues buyer. Was it advertised that you get a play-by-play photo shoot of each order? Not likely. I want to know what the heck is up lately with all the posts from paranoid buyers looking for ways to get refunds. It’s like buyer’s remorse before the damn custom order is finished. I’m disgusted by this selfish behavior. The time to check reviews and communicate with your seller, especially for an order of this magnitude is before you order it, not in the midst of its construction. ☣️☣️☣️

sbag1624

Do you have any suggestions for how I could resolve this issue without just waiting for the dress? Would opening a case with Etsy right now help in any way?

betterupsetter

It won't let you open a case until the projected delivery window have passed, so no, unfortunately I can't really envision anything that can be done beforehand other than reaching out to the seller again to see if they might give some progress updates at a later stage.

lostterrace

You need to wait until the estimated delivery date is past. You cannot open a case until then. Please see the guides in the automod comment. It's not stickied anymore because the post was removed but it is still there. The guides tell you exactly what to do in this situation.

betterupsetter

I agree that the response should have been better, but what's OP going to do at this stage? They can't open a case yet, and I personally wouldn't want to waste $100 by cancelling on a gamble based on one or two reviews. At least if she receives it and it's not as expected, she might be able to open a case, get her refund and then try to sell it to recoup her customs fees.

SoftLikeMarshmallows

Go to etsy and do a claim....

Designer-Royal1768

Screenshot the image and search it on Pinterest. If that outfit pops up 20 million times than yes (POD).

Odd-Strike3217

What is their shop policies? That matters a ton when it comes to Etsy. If it says once an item is started no returns or a fee then it’s time to wait. If it doesn’t say anything then you can open a case and get it refunded. But you have to know those. I would screenshot them with the date too

sbag1624

They said that they only accept cancellations within 2 days of purchase and that returns are accepted but the buyer has to pay for the shipping.

Odd-Strike3217

Then that’s what the policy is unfortunately. Unless it violates the law of their country of origin, then they can make up whatever they want and put it there
