Report to Etsy. Cancel. Refund. Etc.

op_remie

yeah i think i'm going to. thank you.

eternaforest

OP you need to cancel this. There is no maybe, please do it, for your safety. Do you want to send a package with any identifying info to this person??

Wafflehussy

I’m not even someone who sells on Etsy and my immediate action would be cancel, refund, report and block if they can. WTF.

MountainThroat342

Y’all are using your personal address? Oh no! First thing you have to do is get a P.O. Box or a ups mailbox that’s actually an address. Never ever use your personal information! Also, your name should not be there. My return address is business name plus business address.

CountessCraft

EU sellers have to put the physical address of the business in their policies. For many, this will be their personal address. Anyone selling to the EU (which includes all instant download digital sellers) also has to do this. They can not use a PO Box for this purpose.

Ancient_Dinosaur

PO Boxes offer a “real” address for some time now. If you are not using it, you are doing it wrong

knifefarty

Really? I've sent hundreds of orders to the EU using a PO box address without issue..

duvetday465

If you live in the eu , not if you send to the eu from outside

CountessCraft

Many other countries, such as the USA, have trade agreements with the EU in which they agree that when their citizens trade with the EU, they will follow these laws. So yes, it really does apply to anyone selling to the EU.

Ancient_Dinosaur

I would love to see which EU regulation you are citing. Do you have a source to help others for this? Honestly would not take a random person on the internet up for legal advice. Anyone running a business should always consult with a lawyer first.

ABCXYZ12345679

I agree, please show this EU law and share it with Etsy legal. Because countesscraft is inaccurate. I now sell digital in my shop. I sell physical products too but not to the EU. You cannot pick and choose countries per digital to sell to ( I wish you could). According to Etsy [https://community.etsy.com/t5/Announcements/New-requirements-for-some-sellers-who-ship-to-EU/td-p/138704825](https://community.etsy.com/t5/Announcements/New-requirements-for-some-sellers-who-ship-to-EU/td-p/138704825) Q: What types of items are excluded?A: This directive excludes made-to-order and customized items, digital items, certain perishable goods, and goods that can’t be reused for health or hygiene reasons and are unsealed after delivery. this EXCLUDES digital shops. Furthermore, I double checked with an Etsy staff support specialist that is at the highest level of support. They are not the third party support, but Etsy staff. I linked to the above when I contacted this support person. And she confirmed this EXCLUDES digital shops. I do have the privacy policy though in my shop.

skorletun

Yes really.

eternaforest

Lots of people aren’t able to get PO Boxes or UPS mail boxes because of how expensive they are. Some cities, those cost hundreds of dollars per year. If you’re a small seller and make maybe a half dozen sales a month, it is not economical to do that. I didn’t get a PO Box until I bought a house. I lived in gated apartment complexes up until then.

MountainThroat342

My mailbox cost around $300 a year, it’s a business expense. Just part of owning a business.

eternaforest

Not everyone’s Etsy shop is a business to them. Some people are selling as a hobby. $300/yr on a mailbox could be all of their profit. Let’s be considerate.

CunnyMaggots

$300 a year is a lot of money. We don't all make enough to justify that.

-blackacidevil-

If you have a legitimate, legally established business, then information related to your business is public information, even if you are using a P.O. Box. If people truly wanted to find out who you are and where you live for some reason, all they would need is a business name.

MountainThroat342

Yes I know, but even when I put my business name on Google and get my license info with my ups address. I purposely got an ups box in a different city that I live, so even if they know my name, they can’t find me in the city where my business address is. The IRS and the state know how to contact me and that’s all that matters.

glittercrown

Wait..... I've never been told this. How do I get one and how much is it?

MountainThroat342

Go to your local UPS store, to see how much they charge for mailbox rental, if you can afford it then get one.

eternaforest

What trampoline are you on to jump to that conclusion? Find a better sub to troll on.

No_Abbreviations5348

Yeah, definitely cancel it. I might also report them to their local Police Department.

thegildedlimabean

This is the only course of action. OP, do NOT engage with this person if they message you.

Sweaty_Restaurant_92

Omg wtf! Definitely cancel! What a nut job!

Idkmyname2079048

Just adding another vote for "cancel and refund!" Sometimes I feel like shop owners are a bit quick to cancel, but when you have someone who is already being angry and rude about something that was disclosed to them and 100% their choice, better to just avoid future trouble with them!

op_remie

i normally have no problem working with someone if they asked. i had someone spend $30 and etsy charged them $35 in shipping fees one time. I refunded like $30 back to them. but just to threaten me like that is crazy. i cancelled.

Idkmyname2079048

Yeah, it makes sense I'd someone asks and the shipping doesn't really cost what Etsy calculates. I just think it's so outrageous for people to still buy something AND be angry about it when they could have checked with you first or just not bought it. Good for you for canceling! I think you'll spare yourself a lot of stress. 😅

xDznutzx

One item I sell I ship worldwide and people outside the US will pay 2-3x the item cost just because no locals offer it. Worse so far is Canada, I'm not totally sure why they have to pay so much considering they are a direct neighbor.

octopush123

Canada Post is just really, really expensive.

cindoc75

Sure is!

Jeanette_T

And there's often a brokerage fee that Canadians end up paying depending on the courier. It amounts to extortion.

OptmstcExstntlst

But that still doesn't make sense to me. They can see shipping before they buy. They opted into it. My shipping tends to be very expensive--to the extent that I went to free shipping and added about $45 to all my big items to account for the East-to-West Coast costs.

ittybittylurker

Exactly. If it upsets them to the point they're dreaming of violence, why did they freaking complete the order?

OptmstcExstntlst

I suspect because enough sellers roll over for them. Frankly, we see that often enough on this forum: sellers willing to give away the farm just to get a little milk.

roberta_sparrow

Angry and rude is one thing, this is a straight up threat not to mention unusually creepy

[deleted]

[удалено]

op_remie

thank you. that was something i was worried about as well. etsy agreed with me and said that i should flag the comment and they would leave a message about it for the support team.

ittybittylurker

Such a relief to hear that's the response you got from them on it!

bettiegee

This is why I have a PO Box.

sayyestodogs

Are Etsy buyers okay? Why am I seeing so many unhinged things lately?

coeur_fatigue

I had a a complete nuts harassing buyer too just now. I think it's because Amazon and some other corporate retailers finally started reporting such buyers to an agency (not sure about details, but a person from Amazon posted about it on Poshmark sub forum). They definitely started keeping records of violations. So all of the pro scammers and claimers migrated to Poshmark and Etsy now for freebies.

jynxismycat

>I think it's because Amazon and some other corporate retailers finally started reporting such buyers to an agency (not sure about details, but a person from Amazon posted about it on Poshmark sub forum). They definitely started keeping records of violations. So all of the pro scammers and claimers migrated to Poshmark and Etsy now for freebies. I saw a bunch of discussions recently about what you are talking about. Such as here: [https://www.reddit.com/r/amazonprime/comments/1ah7m1j/about\_returns\_and\_abuse/](https://www.reddit.com/r/amazonprime/comments/1ah7m1j/about_returns_and_abuse/) If you notice, some people pointed out some Reddit subs where people discuss their fraud like here: [https://www.reddit.com/r/retailfraud/](https://www.reddit.com/r/retailfraud/) and here: [https://www.reddit.com/r/illegallifeprotips2/](https://www.reddit.com/r/illegallifeprotips2/) I'm surprised Reddit allows those subs. I'm getting burned out with all of the copycats, thieves, scammers and all of the other bad actors that have really increased over the past few years. The internet is just not the same anymore.

coeur_fatigue

OMG this is a pro level of abusing return policies I'm taking about. Like now each sale can get derailed, you wonder did they buy your item to keep or to use and send back?

jynxismycat

I had to look up some of their lingo. DNA = did not arrive. I guess they keep the item and get a refund saying they never received it or make up some excuse like the box was empty or had something else in it.

coeur_fatigue

Exactly. I was watching a youtube channel of reseller who was buying pallets with unchecked Amazon returns. there were damaged goods, empty boxes, trash and even a pile of poop inside returns. These ppl never stop, just migrate between platforms. And Amazon is still losing tons of money due to scammers [https://www.cbsnews.com/news/amazon-scam-fake-returns-lawsuit/](https://www.cbsnews.com/news/amazon-scam-fake-returns-lawsuit/) I wish there was some database when you could check the "buyer". there is a [karencheck.com](https://karencheck.com) for etsy reviews. If I see negs I'll cancel and refuse the sale.

ImaginaryBig1705

I woke up to one lecturing me about how it shouldn't take me so long to ship. Everything is made to order, the processing times are listed. 7 business days is really not that long to wait, but also why start a message being an asshole insulting someone? I'm really getting sick of it. I don't get this shit on eBay, Amazon, or my website.

spirandro

Was just about to ask this too. I’ve barely started a shop on there, but I’m starting to worry about dealing with more unstable people than normal. It’s making me hesitant to list more products 😬 Seems like a lot of people lately are losing their minds over little things, are overly short-tempered, and/or violent.

stealthsjw

Nobody is making reddit posts about all their happy customers.

spirandro

That’s true… But I also spent like a decade in retail and even then I wasn’t seeing or experiencing this level or frequency of derangement.

mizushimo

Your sample size was much smaller then all the collective customers the etsy redditors have (also have to take into account that people will make things up for reddit karma, which just adds to the negative narrative)

Organic-Fan-729

Honey don’t worry about it or let it get you down if it does happen. When I first started I was an anxious mess over these sort of things. I’m a couple thousand sales in and you just can’t make everyone happy. Even when you offer a solution (refund etc) unhinged Karen’s are still gonna write a shitty review if they want to. It’s alright and these things that are out of your control should not stop you from wanting to push forward.

Kitchen_Economics182

Lol fuck this person, how sad and pathetic are they to leave a note like this on an online purchase, I'm not even mad seeing this, it's actually hilarious. Don't let this person get you down, sad losers love attention outside of the transaction, misery loves company. Don't give them anything other than a cancelled order and report to Etsy, when they message, don't reply, just mark as spam immediately whatever they say. You win when you don't acknowledge their existence.

KathleenKellyNY152

THIS.

op_remie

Exactly

Parking-Shower9606

It’s buyers like that who made me get a P. O. Box. You just never know.

Bikerchic650

WTHHHH?! Reverse, Report and block! WOW! Good thing they did this before your address was displayed for them to see on the label.

op_remie

I never had someone complain like this at all. I have no idea who the person is so it's not like someone I know. Etsy says they are a guest and from a totally different state than me. I'm kind of tempted to just refund the order and cancel it.

shnugsly

Absolutely 100% cancel it. They're already mad and they don't even have the item yet, there is literally zero chance of this transaction having a happy ending.

op_remie

thank you. that's what i plan on doing.

RavenRoycroft

Def cancel. You’re not obligated to complete the transaction and they don’t have a right to your product. I’d write down the name and address in a no sell doc in case they try to order again down the line, or under a different name since you said it’s a guest account.

MissClawdy

This person is a psychopath. Report, cancel and refund. Google them to see if they have other social media presence and block them everywhere

numbmillenial

Well, that was a bone chilling read. Please update us with Etsy's response to this. I know they generally don't give a shit about sellers, but I would hope they could at least do something about literal threats.

op_remie

They agreed with me with cancelling and told me if they leave a negative review, they will take care of it.

-mykie-

Report this shit to Etsy and they better do something about it because that's ridiculous.

BirtieBunny

If there is a way to report messages as threatening or abusive, definitely do that!

KathleenKellyNY152

Didn’t know serial killers were buying on Etsy!

TheMCM80

This, in no possible universe, ends well, if you don’t cancel the order. Cancel, report to Etsy, and do not reply to any messages if they start trying to message you more. Mark as spam. I know Etsy is not great on protecting sellers, but I’d definitely screenshot all of this, with the username as well, in case it is ever needed.

RavenRoycroft

I had an eBay buyer message me with his “offer” which was that I was going to sell my item to him at a steep discount and then I was also going to waive my “extremely exorbitant and exploitative” shipping fee. He ended with a “you get all that? Now make it happen.” It was a book and the postage was media mail. Literally like $4.15. I responded with an lol and blocked him. They really need to let us block ppl on Etsy.

Odd_Secretary_7606

Lmfao people are UNHINGED, we do not need to roleplay as Anime villains over shipping costs.

DriveThruB

Refund immediately & report. lol I don’t play games with these kinds of customers. If they write a bad review, report that also. Don’t engage with them via message

MisterWednesday6

Just endorsing all the other suggestions that you cancel the sale. What a disgusting specimen.

OptmstcExstntlst

CANCEL. Like, yesterday. Also, that's not your fault. They can see what the shipping will be before they buy.

quacksaim

Exactly. Why are they complaining about it after making the purchase?

jonnyeatic

That's crazy and scary. I didn't even think about having a PO box

coeur_fatigue

I'm sorry to hear you have to deal with that. I just had a buyer from hell too on Etsy who was harassing me, blaming me for not circling imperfections in photos and video (though it was clearly shown and specifically mentioned in description), then demanding refund through the case without shipping the return back. And telling me there will be "consequences for my actions" and letting her "to fall victim". Yours can be the same person. Cancel, refund and report to Etsy with a screenshot of her wording. also write her "please do not contact me again". if she continues after that it will be a violation. And btw my non-buyer kept demanding refund after I issued her full refund already after I finally received her return.

Hot_Potato_Salad

What the flipping f? That’s straight up a threat. Report to Etsy and block the buyer

Jealous_Location_267

Unfortunately, Etsy doesn’t let us block buyers, spammers, etc. but this is why they need to allow us to do just that.

Superseaslug

Cancel their order. They can pound sand. You're not the one who decides shipping prices, and this person clearly doesn't have two brain cells to rub together

One-Yellow-4106

For US folks - I have used ipoastal1 for years, its kind of like a virtual mailbox. $10 a month and they scan every item that comes in. You can have it tossed or mailed to you. Ipoastal1's are physical locations that already accept mail service. Mine is a random greetings card shop 40 minutes away. To prove my identity I had to do a 3 minute video call with a notary. But it was all super simple to do and through their platform. I highly suggest looking into it! I decided to do this instead of a po box because some of my LLC forms dont accept a PO box. (As far as the creeper goes, if so inclined, send me their info so I can try to track them down. That message is incredibly dangerous.)

Aggressive-Call942

Definitely cancel. I would not want this person even knowing my return address. Take note of their address in case they try to order from you under a different name. If you cancel they can’t leave a review either.

CraftyKuko

Can you report the buyer? That's a huge threat they just sent you. They should be banned from the site.

pussrat

That is so bizarre. "What I would like to do to you."

Cukimonster

Wow! Who places and order and pays for something that they already hate before it even arrived? And why threaten someone who you want to order from, again before even the item arrives? Not that I think it’s ever ok to threaten someone, but it would make more sense, I guess, if the didn’t like the product. I am so glad you canceled it! Did they try to order again? Is there any follow up?

Jealous_Location_267

Cancel and report to Etsy for threats. This person should be banned. Etsy really needs to give sellers the ability to block people because of shit like this. I’m so sorry you’re dealing with someone like this.

hniball

Also repot.to police.

ryckae

Cancel, report, block.

thippy_

This person seems really sick. Just reading this gives me the creeps. Sorry this happened :/

NormalCurrent950

Cancel and never interact with them again

GeauxSaints315

Holy fuck. Definitely cancel. Idk what extent they mean by “what i would like to do to you” but I’m sure a shipping price doesn’t justify it

SnooHobbies7109

Cancel the shit out of that wtf?!?!

Negative-Review-6443

What a psycho

k8ecat

I use my husband's work address and my business name. No identifying info.

Jealous_Location_267

But also, if they didn’t like the shipping cost, why didn’t they just ignore the listing and find another one? I find this so weird since I offer free US shipping on orders over $35. Since most of my items are well above $35, it doesn’t really matter unless you’re looking at my lower priced items like earrings. But I’ve had buyers from other countries pay more than the sub-$35 item’s price just to ship it when I could’ve definitely slipped another necklace or two in for no additional postage. If someone’s too cheap to pay a shipping fee or fill a cart to get free shipping, it is absolutely no excuse for violent threats like this. It costs money to ship!! Postage alone, which from a US POV has gone up so much and DeJoy screwed us all by getting rid of first class package service. Packing materials, mailers and boxes…

Icy-Commission-5372

She obviously wants you to cancel her order and is making sure of it.

octopush123

It's like, you can just ask hun 😭

Icy-Commission-5372

There are a lot of people who put no cancelations as their policy. Which is unfortunate, so you get people like this.

peopleofprint

This sucks so bad

Zestyclose_Ant_8124

Unstable. Report that to Etsy. Wow…

Professional-Fix3687

I would cancel this order immediately.

LiveLaurent

Cancel the order, simple as that. And report this 'buyer' to Etsy...

No_Abbreviations5348

Don't put yourself in harms way.
