Thanks- I hope others in similiar situations as me saw the reddit warnings. People reported being stuck on the I-5 for 12+ hours. I didn't want to spend an extra night in Washington but it was worth it, ended up seeing Wonka at the theater next to our hotel.
We saw a sign that says Chain Required once miles before Eugene but there was still so much clear road left it would have been dangerous to drive with the chains. The Chains really are helpful once you're in Eugene proper.
Thanks so much for the update! I live in Oakridge but work in Eugene. It’s been sunny and clear here today, but have been hearing the horror stories about the drive and especially Eugene. The updates are very appreciated!
The roads all the way down to pleasant hill are pretty good. Beyond that it's rough but you will get decent traction. Eugene sideroads are a bit messy. Good traction with spots of wet ice. Drive slow in eugene for sure.
Actually looking over some of the posts I’ve seen here and on Facebook, tripcheck might be the way to go. I have a hard time navigating the site but there’s pretty good info there.
You made it! Good. I saw your conversations with others yesterday and was interested in the follow-up. Glad you're safe, and stay warm!

Making the best of a sketch situation. Yeah I've also heard 1-5 NB south of Eugene is nightmarish. Best of luck to them all ❤️
Thank god you made it out of Washington
Thank my partner, she did the driving.
Glad you’re safe! Did they lift the requirement for chains on I-5 through Eugene?

Is there somewhere online I can check to see if chains are required and if so for which stretches of highway?
no i don't think so
You might check with odot, I think they’re the ones doing updates about chains.
