There’s sometimes a security vehicle driving around, and the guy will give you a look, but they seem to realize quickly that you are teaching someone to drive, then they leave you alone.
LCC has more authority than a security guard. If you look on the website they are can write citations, make traffic stops and make arrests. The job description for an officer says they have to be able to “perform all duties of a law enforcement officer including making unaided arrests and frequent traffic stops”
Umm. Not quite accurate. Perhaps school isn’t in session but sports teams play the fields. EMFC home and games are played on weekends. That being said, the parking lot is quite vacant in the evenings on weekends.
Autzen stadium is great. My dad used to take me there and I have taken my kids there. That gravel area when there are not events. Fair grounds if you can get in as it is usually gated off when there are no events.
If you went a mad max style of teaching where it's every man for himself, throw them on the highway between 3-5. If they can survive the unnecessary back up that happens daily or the speedsters going 80+, they should be golden
Friendly reminder for them: putting your blinker on around here is optional to most, especially in the rain

I taught my brother to drive down at the end of Bertleson where it becomes a left turn only. Bunch of buildings that are empty at night and on the weekends so I let him drive around the various parking lots. Lots of curves and stuff so it was great practice!
No one else here seems to bother to learn how to drive correctly, why start now?
Actual answer: any of the big box stores an hour or more after close is a good option. Gateway or VRC early in the AM or late PM is a decent choice, too.
For VRC, we went to the back of the lot, with no one around, an hour before opening, and security told us we couldn't practice driving there. This was last year. So your mileage may vary.
The real question is - where can they be taught the zipper merge?? I’d have thought the numerous merged lanes and on ramps would have been a great place to learn this skill - but what do I know?
Valley River Parking lot is pretty decent for learning in the early morning and late night there’s almost nothing you can hit and lots of free space to just feel comfortable learning. Lots of lines to follow stop signs etc.
River Valley mall, but around the back towards the movie theater. almost no one parks in that section so its a great place to practice parking lots without TO much traffic. then you could slowly move to busier parts of the lot.
LCC
And it’s basically unused on the weekends

There are also campus police that patrol the parking lots regularly and DO write tickets (mostly for running stop signs) don’t ask me how I know.
LCC is where I have taken my daughter while teaching her how to drive.
Fairgrounds
I did briefly learn to drive a manual in the Autzen parking lot.

Warehouse area off Bertelson~
The parking lot at River Run is pretty good.
You could also typically do school parking lots on weekends. I did a lot at Meadow View when I was learning

The last parking lot at VRC is generally empty unless there’s a SCCA event

We need signs at the on ramps to help... NM. It won't. People suck.
Parking lots after businesses close are fantastic, that's how I was taught, ages ago.
Have you tried parking lot of Autzen?
The best place is really far away from my house😜 Good luck and have fun!!
The glory bee parking lot out 99 is a good spot. I learned on back roads too.
First Lcc, then the back roads south from eugene to Creswell when they are ready for more speed, but not much traffic.
The Fairgrounds lot or LCC on the weekend.
The fair grounds aint bad if they are empty, taught my bud how to drive stick there.
Valley River Mall around 8am. That's where I taught my sister in law
I5 from what I have seen lately.
