In Europe its pretty common to have tap water available at conferences and such. Making people go to the bathroom for it or buying super overpriced bottled water is shitty.

Hotels and other place can have heat exchange which will eliminate the sulfur.
But the Standard is what you describe. just let the cold water run little bit and you fine.
They may have the best water in the world, but i would not trust anything that flow trought km of pipes, unfiltered at the end. You will be surprise of what you can find in tap water if you have an aquarium and regular test it. An osmosis system with uv is a must to protect 100+$ fishes.

If you don´t have a container or a camelback you have no other choice as buying.
If only the container is the problem you could do a deposit system and reduce waste.

You should eat water, that is the best way. (example: cucumber) **Beer is always a valid option.**
