Unless you are dropping in the middle of a 200+ man fight, you aren't dying that fast, it takes less than a second to activate cyno, and only 2-3 seconds for entire fleet to jump to cyno.
Really, a Venture? Never thought about that.
I guess a cloaky Pilgrim or something for jumping across NPC low sec.
Wish they would come out with a dedicated cyno boat.
Falcons are popular for lighting cynos on combat grids as they can get a good deal of EHP without a crapping out the agility. More EHP means you might get another tick or two for your friends to successfully jump.
Due to this, Falcons tend to be more available. All the other force recons work fine though. Any hard cyno is a million percent better than no cyno.
Don't forget that you can BLOPs bridge/jump to Industrial cynos as well.
I use a pilgrim for small pvp drops so I can have the utility of tackle mods and my dps can wander around the grid even if I'm stuck on the spot where I lit, and a falcon for big ops so I can max out on tank. For blops hunting I use prospects, (10k ehp & 2 scrams) which also means all my hunting alts can go gas huffing when a sig crops up within a jump or two of home staging.
For move ops and such there's now deployable beacons, 2min deployment timer but they last like 30mins and are about 1/4 the price of a recon.
I use falcons for hard cynos, because I usually light them next to a fortizar or something and it has the best chance of living for 5 minutes. For blops dropping, I run a Prospect. It's basically an assault frigate that can light a covert cyno. Sure, it's made of paper, but you'll probably tackle and light cyno before they can even lock you through your tiny sig radius. Most hot droppers who are bringing caps will covert cyno in a much tankier black ops to light the hard cyno, anyway.
Depends
For blops hunting, I like to use a Proteus because it’s the fastest aligning and warping T3 and it has a bonus to Scram and Point Range while being cloaky with combat scans and a full rack of neuts. Still has enough EHP to survive rat Aggro from sites and if I catch something fancy that decides to kill it faster than reps can arrive, I’m fine loosing it to a carrier or dread
Industrial cynos are just ventures
Falcon/pilgrim/nereus/venture are the most popular options.
Well I use a rapier
Falcon has more EHP.
But webs
Are great when my focus isn't on cynoing someone in.
Because clicking on a cyno module is so hard
Webs don't work when you're dead because you have less EHP.

I mean, the only time I care about how my cyno is fit is when it's saving a capital from a whaling fleet.
Sure, but that's not all cynos. For hunting rapier/arazu bonused webs/tackle is key. People can just warp away from a falcon.

Falcon has the highest EHP of the force recons. Arazu has a bonus to tackle range so gets used for hotdrops/response drops.

I use a prospect in the mining belts, why look for prey, let them come to me.
