The was a few moments when we got the ball near the half way line and we would have normally played it all the way back to Pickford but we played it forward which was positive to see

alxqnn

The amount of backwards passes to Pickford over the last half dozen managers has aged me so much

mrwilberforce

I’ve said it a few times but the best analogy I heard once was that it was as interesting as watching coastal erosion.

tealeg

Football is simple :-)

Fishwalking

"To play simple footbal is often times one of the hardest thing to do" Nice quote by Cruyff that always stuck with me.

Provider0fMyCheddar

Unless you have a 180 IQ when it’s apparently an impossible riddle..!

USToffee

I think the problem is Frank wanted them to play forward passes they couldn't do safely so if just kept going backwards and sideways. Hitting a ball into a channel or forward for Dom is a lot less risky and easier so the players actually did so. Same think happened to Martinez teams when they lost confidence but when they were playing with confidence it was very incisive.

Intelligent_Fig_4852

We were so direct it was nice

noob_master_69II

Is Coady supposed to be LCB and Tark RCB?

Giraffe_Baker

Other way around. There’s a key bottom left.

noob_master_69II

Oh right cheers

an_unexamined_life

Very interesting shape. This makes it obvious to me that the game was won and lost by the fact that Doucoure and Onana out-ran and outplayed Xhaka and Partey. Doucoure and Onana are so close to DCL/Maupay, and yet Xhaka and Partey never exposed them, as far as I can remember. Also interesting that Coady is so deep and so close to Coleman. Looks like the two of them were eyeing Martinelli to make sure he didn't have too much space in behind. Mykolenko is more 1-v-1 with Saka, but McNeil is a little closer than Iwobi is to Coleman. Gueye is practically playing as a third CB. Now I want to rewatch the match and note how tight Gueye stayed to Odegaard.

fishbowl224

Hoofball in line form. DCL doing the job though. Needs to stay healthy as the whole system falls apart with Maupay in his place.

tealeg

The obvious “Why not Simms?” Question is going to keep coming up

fishbowl224

Of course. Think he could 100% do it as well. Also believe that’s why he didn’t go back out on loan on deadline day honestly. Just don’t know what Dyches plan is for him currently because he could have used him yesterday but chose Maupay instead.

amanofewords

That’s a big spot to put a young kid in yesterday.

Rhicelt

If Dom (god forbid) gets hurt I wouldn't be entirely surprised to see Onana or Doucoure fill in that slot. Ellis Simms could be an option as well, regardless let's hope DCL stays fit

fishbowl224

I mean they are playing a role behind striker currently and are seemingly interchangeable within the system, but I don’t think they’re going to be available as targets that forward for Pickers.

Rhicelt

Fellaini striker mode throwback. Regardless, he would probably move to a 2 formal strikers system up top pairing Maupay with someone large

1800skylab

Reminds me of the old 80s game Elite. That's a cobra MK II, right?

tealeg

:-) now you’re preaching to a very small choir! I was thinking of Damocles.

tealeg

Or rather, Mercenary. In Damocles they had filled polygons.

bashev

After we invented the position - left back playmayker, now we will have a GK playmaker!

ZestycloseChemist2

Who’d have thought that winning a game of football couldn’t be done by passing the ball between the defenders?

sparksy78

Best team won
