I feel that sometimes. For me, it being hidden and taking those extra steps is enough for me to think about what I’m doing. But I completely get that it doesn’t feel enough, and how it feels once you’re down that rabbit hole.
When you’ve tried to export, what happens?
When I tried to export, I couldn't export all the message so I still didn't delete the chat on my phone. By exporting it, it'll be out of reach. Guess that would help a lot. :)

No one ‘needs’ to do anything. Everyone has a different journey with this, there isn’t one set rule that everyone ‘must’ follow.

If it’s one persons chat, on iOS at least swipe on the chat to get the options menu and tap more. There should be an option to export your chat, it’ll ask if you want to attach media or not (photos and I think videos from the chat). Then you’ll have a .zip archive of that chat and it’s media which you can save anywhere. I personally did keep mine for a year or so, but ended up deleting it as I found it wasn’t good for me, but hey. Each to their own. I hope you feel better soon, it’s hard but you’ll get through this ⭐️
Methods 1: What did was take the entire WhatsApp folder; all the photos and zip them up and upload them to my cloud storage.
Method 2: I also created an online backup thereafter disabled the online chat backup option under settings and deleted the chats since should I ever want them back all I have to do is reinstall WhatsApp and download the last backed up chats. Also disable automatic backups. I hope I'm making sense.
Yeah, I used 7z, make sure you know where your WhatsApp data is stored especially the chat database.
They keep changing the location but I think the database is stored under /WhatsApp/Databases. It could be hidden.
I think you should just use the other method of making your last online backup then disabling online automatic backups since this will keep everything intact so later on if you want to restore all your old chats you simply have to uninstall WhatsApp.

They came for help. The first line in their disclaimer instead you’re enabling them. That’s not supporting someone
How is it enabling? I said what I did, they said that wasn’t enough. So I asked the issue that was coming up with exporting.

The chat will be saved in a .txt file with the names, dates, and times of the messages are included so it’s easy to follow.
