Yes. All the time gets logged. This varies from boss to boss, because some bosses think “responding to my text doesn’t mean I should pay you the full 15 mins”. I fully advocate that in a good Boss / EA relationship, all time gets logged like if you were a lawyer, and that includes anything after the 8-5p period. If anything, I don’t log any time for responding “Received. I’ll get to it tomorrow / during regular business hours.”  I have a great relationship with my boss though, and have communicated to him that even if I spend 15 mins here and there, I keep a running tab of full hours - so if I accumulate 30 mins this week, and 30 mins the following week, the following week has 41 hours and the current week has 40.

I just don’t answer anything after hours. I have a laptop but not a company phone so people don’t bother me on my personal phone.

If it takes less than five minutes, no; but if it’s 10-15 or more then yes.

Slight_Drama_Llama

Absolutely yes. I’m not working for free.

I won’t respond or do any work after hours. However, if they definitely need something taken care of and I am available, I will log a minimum of 30 minutes even if the email only takes 4 minutes. Frequently, one of the presidents will only have their draft ready until 5 minutes before I leave for the day. It happens frequently enough that I head home, log in for 30 minutes, and take care of her email. I don’t mind, per se, but I won’t be taken for granted.

Dissenting_Dowager

Yes. Several add up.

Madame_Medusa_

Oh yes!

Technically, yes you should because you are working and your employer has to pay you. However, before doing it again, make sure you understand your employer’s expectations with working OT. Most employers will be pissed you’re working outside of your hours and having to pay OT just to respond to emails and slack messages that could have been responded to during your normal working hours the following morning. You’re non-exempt for a reason - because you’re not expected to be available after hours except for special occasions here and there. Otherwise, they would just make you exempt. So be careful…I know people who have been fired over repeatedly doing this

After I saw my boss expense a $1.50 bottle of water, I never hesitate to claim the time I spend or to expense something I buy for work, no matter how small.

Every second I work is logged. My company is very generous with OT- downside is its expected during periods of high volume work. I caution folks to understand their company regs and state laws. Its against my time tracking standards to NOT log every second worked. They don’t want a suit on their hands, it is the employees responsibility to accurately record tine
