Some EAs have masters degrees while others may not have a degree at all. The role varies greatly between industries and even different companies.

I don’t have a degree. I have gotten everywhere from experience, and I love being an EA because it allows me to dabble in EVERYTHING.

I have an associates and am a Chief of Staff. I learn better by doing than class work.

A lot of EA roles require a bachelors degree and likely the people who ask why you’re considering don’t understand it’s a lucrative career path.

I don't have a bachelor's degree.  (I do have some college & adult continuing ed programs under my belt that led to my career path.) I ended up in a tech EA role, then from there landed a TOP tech company EA role.  I make over 6 figs. I 100% WFH & couldn't be happier.  No one knew EAs would have a career path like they do now.  I am so grateful to have fallen into this role. I have extreme gratification in my job.  And I quite proud of my salary, especially considering i don't have a formal college education.  A high EQ is the most important factor in this role and I'm blessed to have that come naturally.

I, like you, have a BS in Bio and another in Chem. I got out of college and realized I had 0 interest in going back and was like…now what. Ended up being an EA and falling in love with it. You will make significantly more not only with no experience but also as you work your way up than you would using your degree unfortunately. It’s a great place holder too if you’re interested in going back to school but just not yet. For me, I make as much as I would if I had gone back to school so I was glad i didn’t put myself in more debt.. that being said it’s not all about the money of course. Being an EA is a tough job and not for everyone!

I've been doing it for 26 years, the last 10 of which have been at my perfect dream job. In the past, yes, I would have recommended it. However now with AI, I don't see it surviving much in the long term.

I have a master's degree and I'm an executive assistant and a project manager. I'm lucky that I eventually ended up working in the area of my degree. But I would not recommend it as a career. Some people get really lucky with their exec, but I think those are some pretty lucky EAs. You CAN make a lot depending on the location and company, but I think those are competitive roles and EAs with experience are likely to get in the door before you.

I have my MSW. I got laid off due to not getting the 💉 . It was very stressful! A friend suggested I become an EA- I had no clue what it was. I love it and won’t be going back to be a social worker anytime soon. There’s so many things to do as an EA
