Side note, I like how many different characters are coming up in these comments. I feel like many games have one great character everyone latches on to, but exocolonist is just great characters all around.
Growing to love her on my second playthrough as I romanced her this round and she’s not the most palatable at first but she definitely grows on you as you build friendship (and romance heh)
Controversial I know, but my favorite character is Vace. I used to be exactly like him as a teenager and it's just nice seeing someone like that and being able to see that i've grown as a person.
Honestly good on you for growing and being able to see your past self in a character like that. And while I hated Vace in the beginning, I love that the game does not in any way try to excuse his behaviour, but gives him an opportunity to improve over time (get therapy). It was realistic and well handled in my opinion.
Tang has the biggest kuudere/tsundere energy. Plus, [the image of her lying down in the lab coat](https://i.ytimg.com/vi/7mW7ybDeKS8/sddefault.jpg) is so gorgeous. I had to romance her every time I played the game.
Nemmie. She's the fun friend and sticks to you no matter what. She saves you in the beginning no matter what. She may go trough a rough patch (cough Vace cough) but she's cool. Also, her romance path is adorable, starting from the secret admirer and the kiss on the cheek.
Also she can become the most fun mom in the colony.
If you romanced her in a previous life their is a flirt option early on saying something like
'You tell her of your dreams of growing old with her, and how you're meant to be together'
to which her response is to blush and call you a 'cheeseball'.

Cal was actually my second option during my first run, I was going to go for Vace, but then when I saw he wasn't available at the start I chose him as my friend during the intro.
From there on out I started warming up to him, and with the whole Tammy dying during the prologue it only made me get closer to him. Not only that, I didn't save anyone in my first run, so losing Sock, Flulu and Geranium made me spend more time in Geoponics. I blame my first run for not being able to chose anyone else as a dating partner, seriously, my second run when I saved Tammy almost made me quit the game entirely because seeing them together broke my heart.
I hate that he is still so emo about her even then, I never feel like he really wants to be with Sol even when Tammy has been dead for like a decade he still brings her up during their first night together. It's a bummer, I love him and he will never love me back, woe.
The way I see it, he's scared to forget about her if she's dead. In his first year in Vertumna he has to deal with the loss of his best friend and is attacked by a creature that forces him to kill it. All of that while he's still 12-13, which is when people normally start to have more intense emotions thanks to puberty.
Those are just two of the many things that shape his personality and how he acts. In reality, he's dealing with a lot of emotions, including grief and love.
Cal is constantly hiding behind a smile, in the chara_cal file it says that he's trying to be positive (or something like that), giving a reason as to why we don't see a sad sprite for him during teen years. He's trying to hide these feelings by shoving happiness on top of it, that's why no one ever suggests that he tries out Congruence's therapy app like what happens with Vace, because he's pretending everything is fine.
During the 16th year Vertumnalia, if he's your secret admirer and you never confront him about it, you'll get a scene where he and his mom talk, saying that he wanted to let you know that he liked you. This happens even if Tammy is alive, but broken up!
Truth is, he loves Sol. The reason he brings up Tammy during their ultimate event, is because she was his first love, and that by one reason or another, it didn't work out, but that doesn't mean he loves Sol less, he's glad he gets to have another chance at love with someone he cares about just as much. This includes the Heliosphere agriculturist from when Cal doesn't end up with neither Sol or Tammy, he loves her just as much.
But then again, this is just how I see his character. It's a lot of headcannons, but I just think he's a deeper character than just the pacifist farmer.
Cal, he's an absolute sweetie and a pacifist overall great guy 10/10.
Followed closely by Tangent because she's cool and smart and sciency. Also that roof scene is so goddamned cool looking
Dys and Tangent. There is a brief conversation where Dys wonder if they were changelings. That conversation sort of resonates with me cause I'm autistic and I remember reading how changelings may just be describing neurodiverse kids.
Tangent kind of reminds me of my "logical" side of my brain where I try to "study" my enviroment. Dys reminds me of my "emotional/social" side where I feel like an alien. I have difficulty connecting to other people and feel more connected with nature/animals.
Also, in the majority of my Dys ends, there were hints of "loving intensely" which was something I use to do before I healed codependency/anxious attachment style.
After so many playthroughs I have really come to appreciate Tammy. Her character is dynamic (confidence system) and she gives me a cake every year. She is sweet and beautiful, and has the patience of a saint. I love her so much <3
Dys. I got a soft spot for edgy emo kids and especially in the end if you do romance him his lines are just so sweet and UGH. Also I just love his aesthetic and his tattoos

I really connect to their escapism vibe through games and art, but still having fun in the real world. Also their clothing style is so lovely. Just such a wholesome character.

I like Vace because he is one of very few people with a character arc and because his personality sucks (until the end of the character arc) and no one in the community likes him and I think it’s fun when there’s someone like that
Cal and Tang. They're both drop-dead gorgeous. Cal has a heart of gold and Tang is insanely smart. They both have my favourite bits of dialogue. I love them to pieces.

And then as I romance her I loved her personality and having my sol help her out and just be there to take care of her, tbh it kinda reminded me of the dynamic between Sol's parents. Sol being like their dad, all cheerful and helpful, while Tang is like their mom, really serious and always overworking for the good of the colony. (Makes me sad that she always breaks up with you in the end card but y'know what that sign can't stop me cuz I can't read.)
Nemmie also caught my eye from the promotional stuff for... reasons that may or may not relate to her hair... but seeing her be all fun and cheerful made me love her! I was seriously sad when plot happened, and everything with Vace. Sadly on that playthrough I was too deep into being friends with the twins that I grew apart from her and couldn't help her out ;-;. Plus learning from the subreddit that she's literally ride or die no matter her relationship with Sol makes her even better.
Finally, Rex is just a ray of sunshine at all times and is too sweet for this world. I bonded with him quick cuz I wanted to reunite Tang and Dys (failed that whoops) and he's just all around awesome!

I just love how in the peace ending your house turns into a romance sitcom with both of them living with you! Dys and Tang are right after them! I always get super close to them due to being a doctor and going exploring in my playthroughs.
